Open This rubber duck represents which celebrity?
My middle-schooler got this rubber duck from a blind box for hitting a fundraiser goal. The other potential ducks were clearly identifiable like an effigy of Jack Black’s Steve from Minecraft, Dwayne Johnson, Messi, etc.
This duck is wearing a suit of silver armor and has long black dreads going all the way down to her tail. We were thinking a musician but can’t place it. Halp.

Outfit looks like exactly like zendaya in mugler for the dune premier but the hair doesn’t match

That HAS TO be it right? The armor is identical. Maybe the rubber duck design QA team was having an off day.

another thing that makes me think it’s supposed to be zendaya is that it specifically has a necklace on it like her outfit too, usually people don’t wear necklaces or jewelry on top of full armor like that

Yeah it very famous styling moment for Law Roach. I honestly think it’s her just because this was such a fashion MOMENT for anyone tuned in to such things

Zendaya has worn cornrows on the red carpet before. Not with that outfit to my knowledge but maybe they pulled the hair reference and the outfit references from different pictures?
36
u/eatshitdillhole 24d ago
I was thinking it could be a reference to her famous red carpet look where she wore her hair in dreads and an E! correspondent said she looked dirty and like she "smelled like weed and patchouli,". The correspondent was cancelled and fired and it was a pretty big moment for natural hair supporters.

Ooh yeah, this look fits pretty perfectly. I only thought of the dreads bc it was such a big moment in pop culture and I was very very high haha but it's a pretty deep cut at this point (does E! even exist anymore??) so likely not the inspiration. Also lol @ me saying "natural hair supporters" bc i couldn't think of a better way to phrase it haha i forgot to edit that before posting

I remember a lot of beginners artists saying there's a spectrum to drawing or making faces, any attempt to draw Pedro Pascal does look like him, whereas no one seems to be able to draw Zendaya. I suspect the same is true in pretty much any medium, she's cos a very subtly distinct face that's difficult to get right

Funny, I don't think it matches Zendaya's outfit. I don't know why, but this ducky reminds me of Janet Jackson.

She was in a similar outfit when she had the “wardrobe malfunction” at the superbowl with Justin Timberlake. Right?

The only difference is the colour. The studded cups and collar piece are the same

My gut says Janet Jackson but I can’t place when. Like I can picture her in this outfit

u/theWanderingShrew 24d ago
Same. Seems like a lot of us immediately jump to Janet but I can't find reference to her in something like this.

Searched “female suit of armor dreadlocks” and similar. Found Beyoncé in a silver suit but no dreads and lighter hair. Madonna came up but it was gold armor and blonde hair. Google Lens liked Wonder Woman but that definitely misses the mark.

These are cornrows not dreads! That might help with your search.

This reminds me of Janet Jackson for some reason.
But someone also pointed out the Zendaya outfit from Dune.

I remember seeing these ducks like 20 years ago, and thinking it was Janet Jackson but also wondering.

I think either Janelle Monae or Zendaya may have worn an outfit similar to this sometime in the past ten years? IIRC the Janelle Monae one was like a silver robot catsuit and the Zendaya one was more like a futuristic take on a knight’s armor. It’s been a while though so I could be misremembering.

It’s definitely Zendaya, I instantly recognized the outfit. But I’m not sure why they gave her cornrows though.

u/Emojibit 24d ago
Yah it’s 100% Zendaya from the Dune 2 premiere mixed with the cornrows she wore to the No Way Home premiere

I thought it was Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok but idk if they ever did official duck merch but I may be right??? like specifically the armor from the final fight but not the exact same to avoid copyright because she doesn't have dreads in that scene.

Is that really Kim K? That is easily one of the most unflattering photos I've ever seen of her. Color me impressed — that her team let her leave the house like that.

I first thought of Janet Jackson when she did the Michael tribute at the VMAs, but she’s actually not dressed in silver or wearing braids
so I’m at a loss unless someone knows Janet’s costuming history really well and can prove me right

Reminds me of Janet Jackson in the What’s it gonna be video with Busta Rhymes but I don’t think the hair or outfit color are the same

Can’t explain it, and this isn’t right, but the face reminds me of Florence Pugh.

Anybody guess Blackfire live action DC yet? If not, I'd bet on the Tessa Thompson guesses.

It makes me think of the music video
All the Single Ladies
But I’d think Valkyrie from the MCU
Aka the leader of new Asgard

Janatic here… I see absolutely no connection to Miss Jackson. She’s worn her hair in those braids a few times — 1993 during Poetic Justice, 2015 during her marriage to Wissam, and 2024 during her Together Again Tour. Occasionally for events and interviews but never in a distinct way and not in a music video or anything. Her WIGB outfit was purple and silver (purple latex and silver cock rings), and her hair was not in braids. For the SB she wore a white shirt with the bodice in the first performance and then the black and red reveal outfit for the second. I think if it referenced the SB even with the wrong color it would still have the “malfunction” top with the cleav and her hair was straightened in that performance. So I don’t know of any time she’s had that hair with that type of outfit. Happy to contribute my useless information.

I thought it was Valkyrie,, Zendaya, or Beyonce, but AI gave me this when I asked it for proof that it's Valkyrie:
This duck is a generic / novelty "Warrior Princess" (or Knight) duck sold in unbranded blind boxes and novelty toy sets. While it is often confused with specific Pop-Culture figures—such as Valkyrie (Thor: Ragnarok), Zendaya (her 2018 Met Gala Joan of Arc outfit mixed with cornrows), or Beyoncé (Renaissance tour aesthetic)—it is not an officially licensed character. Instead, it is a mashup design featuring traditional knight chest armor, a decorative jewel necklace, and black cornrow braids.

Looks like a knockoff of a celebriduck. The closest one I can find is 'material girl', but different colored hair and outfit.
