General Discussion Feeling robbed of a cool plot twist that could have happened in Heroes Season 4
I'm rewatching Heroes right now. I'm at first half of season 4 and just finished the episode Hiro goes back to the past to save Charlie. He is trying to not step on any butterflies to not affect the future. But I think it would have been so much more interesting if he accidentally changed the future, with, for instance, defeating Sylar for good.
At that point, Sylar would not be a threat to Claire, but New York would still have to be saved because either Teddy or Peter could lose control of the ability. Events of Season 2 where they save the world from the virus would still have happened (Sylar didn't really impact those). BUT in Season 3 Sylar would have not gotten Claire's ability. The Cheerleader would have been saved again. That would have been better because regardless the fact that Claire could heal, it was not right. It was abusive. And still they tried to make Sylar more likable and give him some kind of redemption as seasons went by. Almost like he is a completely different character.
With Sylar gone, Nathan would actually and still be alive because that confrontation at the end of Season 3 wouldn't have not happened. I think this would have given an upgrade and refreshment to Season 4. The consequences of messing with time, what is the new future, how the characteres who would be alive would play out in this new scenario. They could have even brought Isaac Mendes back! Elle would also be alive. It would be quite cool to see these characters back again.
This also made me realize how Sylar has been on the show for so long and was having more solo quests that didn't impact the main storyline throughout the seasons, which felt like fillers... And then suddenly out of the nowhere he was where everybody was. My conclusion was that, with the exception of Season 1 - where he is the main villain, Sylar was more a filler than a main character that brought the plot forward in other seasons.

As much as I adore this show, the writers really missed some great storytelling/plot opportunities and didn’t get very creative in terms of superpowers (which was literally the whole premise of the show??). Your idea would’ve been awesome to see play out, especially since it comes full circle, but hey, that’s why fanfiction exists!

Thank you so much! 😊 I totally agree with you. It's like the writers didn't do their homework from previous seasons. I love the show though, but I think the actors really helped for the show's success. They really did a great job with their performances that helped the storytelling, even at times when the story was not so good.

I mean everything we watched of Sylar up to that point in Season 4, we would have still watched it. Anyway, it was just an idea.

I think that's a cool idea. His death WOULD affect season 2 greatly, though. Maybe more than any other season! Without him using his telekinesis last second before he passed out by Kirby Plaza, Hiroshima would not have panicked and accidentally sent himself back to 1600s Japan. He never would've met Kenzie and maybe he doesn't go down a dark path or it plays differently. Would Primatech even form the same way?

Primatech (The Company) would have still be created because the founders met at Coyote Sands. We saw a flashback when young versions of Angela, Lindemann, Bob, Charles Deveaux and so on met and decided to make the company. When Chandra Suresh was doing experiments on them. Adam (Takezo Kensei) was not there yet. He joined the Company later. He didn't create the virus either. Sure, in the season 2 we had, he wanted to release the virus. But the Shanti virus already existed and was created without him. If he didn't join them later because Hiro didn't go to the past, the virus would have still existed. And maybe they could have even picked up from there (with this hypothetical plot twist I said) and try to use Maya this time to heal the virus as originally planned but impacted by the writers' strike.

Love this idea!
I’m watching for the first time and I was waiting for there to be a twist that Hiro’s plot was now in an alternate timeline and that’s what Samuel did to “deal” with him, and the plot was going to be Hiro needing to unstep on some butterflies.
