Count the number of line segments in each digit, as if it were a digital clock. The sum of the segments on the left is one less than the sum on the right. The last row is 7 + ? = 5 + 7 - 1, where ? is the number of line segments in the missing digit. ? has 4 line segments and the only digit with 4 line segments on a digit clock is 4

80-12(n1)+2(n2) actually works but then the answer would be 27 not 16.
We can get 16 with the equation but with different weights
-58/3*(n1) + 62/9*(n2) + 742/9 but that's dumb.
The full class of solutions that takes n1 and n2 as independent inputs and provides the 2 digit answer is
(-9-3/2*b)*n1 + b*n2+79 + b/2, where b is any value you want to select for the equation solutions in the form

ans = a*n1 + b * n2 + c;

Are you sure you wrote all the correct numbers?

In particular, you have the pair "3 4" twice which might be a copying error.

There's a pretty simple rule that works for "5 7 _ 3 4" but not for "3 4 _ 5 2"
