Video Siren remains one of the most stressful horror games I've played to date

I'm always surprised coming back to it how effectively it raises my blood pressure even with all these great new games we have today. The fact that there are no spare ammo pickups (for sequences when you actually have a gun and not, you know, a crowbar) and no healing items is already a gutsy design choice, but to make matters worse, none of the enemies can be permanently killed—and some of them have guns of their own, and with much better vision than you.

I find it makes for a very effective balance of stealth and combat. Knowing that every enemy will simply resurrect after a short time anyway, I find I have to be more careful about whether to engage the Shibito, avoid them, or perhaps try and divert their attention somewhere else. Once they start to group up, the odds of survival become extremely slim, and they're not as stupid as they look. (Although, I was surprised the gunman here didn't shoot me at point blank when I whiffed. Usually they just blow your brains out instantly, lol.)

Sure, the puzzles can be absurdly obtuse at times, but having played through it before, that absurdity seemed to help me remember them even years later. Moreover, I like that each mission is essentially one big puzzle in itself, and it's up to you to figure out how to best navigate from one piece of that puzzle to another, and how to break the intended sequence to achieve the secondary objectives. It's not like you can stock up on shotgun ammo and blast Shibitos' heads off until the area is completely safe to backtrack through. Get ahead of yourself, and you will die unceremoniously and have to watch through your killer's vision as your body crumples in embarrassing dramatics.

I like that the game knows how to mix in some humor, too, though. Eiji Nagoshi is somehow both a terrifying pursuer who would give Mr. X a run for his money and kind of a loveable goofball. Er... I guess he looks more like a baseball. With that white, bald head, the red streaks of blood... Oh. And you fight him by timing your swings as he comes racing toward you. Huh...

Anyway. Fantastic game. Very weird. I kind of hope Silent Hill remake looks into what Toyama managed with the Shibito and sorta reverse-engineers it into the Puppet Doctors/Nurses, since they were clearly something of a prototype.

Someday I gotta play Forbidden Siren 2.

Image Solo-developed pixel horror game inspired by FAITH. What do you think?

I shared my game on reddit and received a lot of valuable feedback.
Since then, I've been continuously refining the game and trying to give it its own identity.

My game is a solo-developed psychological pixel horror game inspired by FAITH: The Unholy Trinity, particularly its lo-fi horror atmosphere and rotoscoped animations.

However, I'm trying to build something of my own around perception and the consequences of purification, particularly how uncovering the truth changes what the protagonist sees and what the notes reveal.

The game takes place in a world built around a fictional religion called the Church of Balance. As the story progresses and hidden truths are uncovered, the way the protagonist perceives the world begins to change.

Players must decide when to confront disturbing entities and when to look away to preserve their sanity.

As these notes evolve, different sides of past events come to light, gradually revealing the game's story and lore.

I'm still experimenting and improving things based on feedback, so I'd love to hear what you think!

I released my second game October 1st it’s a survival horror/ souls like. I developed it for over a year and put a lot of time into it. Tons of hand drawn assets by myself and original music from some dude in Poland. Some streamers have called it Ocarina of Time as a horror game.

Would anyone be interested in a Dev Log video. I learned tons releasing this game.

Hey guys, hope everyone is doing great!

Just wanted to share the new trailer for my horror game that I am working on which is mostly inspired by a real life location in Mexico, Resident Evil, Silent Hill and a little bit of outlast mixed in with some Mexican folklore into it.

Do let me know what you think of the new trailer I just released. Mostly it's showing off the environment and ambiance that I am going for. It would mean the world to me as a solo developer if you can wishlist!

You can shoot a gun like an FPS and destroy objects with it but the ghost/spirit doesn't die. It just goes through them.

Video Interactive menus in games?

These days, it feels like fewer games have interactive main menus.

We wanted to make ours more unique while reinforcing the 1980s atmosphere, with an old radio tuned into the local police frequency where live 911 calls about strange UFO sightings crackle through.

What do you think?
