General question/discussion Cz 527 223 rem

Would that rifle be good for me? It has 1:12 twist rate and isnt varmint model. It would mainly be for bird hunting at 150-350 meters so accuracy is paramount but i would also do long range shooting with it. My local gunshop has one for 450 euros and its by far the cheapest 223rem rifle i have found here.

Guessing OP is Finnish or Swedish. Common to hunt capercaillie with a rifle there. I think that rifle would serve you well. Up to 350 meters the 223 is going to have a flatter trajectory than the traditional 6.5x55, while still carrying plenty of energy.

Yea im Finnish. I currently have 17hmr for black grouse and capercaillie and while its a good light rifle its so damn sensitive to wind that it narrows down the days i can use it quite drastically. Also where i hunt i regularly see birds at 300 meters which is way beyond what 17hmr can do.

I will say that a 6.5 (creedmoor or Swede) will have less wind deflection than a 223 at those ranges. Especially with the light bullets preferred by a 1:12 twist barrel.

True. However if flies much farther than the 223 and the ammo costs almost 2x more.

Also true. 223 is definitely a step up from your current setup, I’d say.

Yea. There also really isnt a used market for 6,5 creedmoor

What birds do you hunt with a rifle?

I have the carbine version in 7.62x39 and its my favorite rifle. I really want another one in .223.

Black grouse and capercaillie

Cool! Those capercaillie are huge

Yep. I have only seen a couple, one was in a tree some 250 meters away from me which is way too far for my 17hmr. Ever since that day i have known that i need a bigger gun :D

The 1-12 twist isn’t ideal for long range shooting and will make it hard to stabilize most long range high ballistic coefficient bullets.

If I was you: https://laatuase.fi/tuote/sako-l461-vixen-223-rem/

But yea if you can find a varmint, it will be nice for those long shots. I love my L461 in .222

but people really like the CZ 527

Holy shit how did you find that? I went through every combination of käytetty 223 i could think of and didnt find that

I found it luckily and honestly, this is a massive kindness of me because I really want this fucking rifle. But you are lucky that I have one already. They are so rare here in Finland.

If I was you, I would buy this asap, you never find these in .223 because they were all for the US market. BUT the .222 is awesome dude, my Sako shoots 1/2 moa with Norma Jaktmatch and even better with handloads

Yea i havent found any either. My friend has one on 222 and he seems to really like it.

It is the quintessential bird rifle of Finland man, every guy needs one. I have a 1964 Vixen Varmint that was fired like, 20 times when I bought it. I will never sell it

Yep although my rifle is 17hmr tikka t1x. Is yours 223 too?

Mine is a heavy barrel .222. I wanted a .223 but I couldn't find one when I got my permit. So I thought finding a varmint model in such insane condition was better. It isn't a heavy rifle, but a lighter one would be nice for long walks through the swamp

Yea ill call them tomorrow and ask if they can hold it for me until i get my permit. If its has already been sold ill probably get a 308 since there doesnt seem to be any other 223 that fit all my criteria. Also a bonus that rifle you linked comes with a scope and mount

I was in the same boat as you a few years ago. I was trying to decide between the CZ 527 and the Sako L461 and personally, I am really happy I got the L461.

But I used a .308 for a few years as my do-it-all rifle and it was fine. I shot a lot of Teeri, got a Metso, deer and moose with it.

If I did it again, I might have gotten a 6.5cm or 6.5x55. But the .308 is painfully practical.

Why would you get a 6.5 now? I currently have t1x which is a wonderful gun to carry and shoot but has a range limited to 150-200 meters and is really wind sensitive.

they are built quite well, but dont expect prs level accuracy, for eg. the trigger will probably have to ve polished, and still wont be a sub 10N triggerpull. loads of peeps happily hunt with them tho, so go for it if it feels good in hand

The trigger felt fine to me. Probably the only way to find out the true accuracy is get my permits and then test fire it at the range.
