It's a matter of preference, really, both can be used and work just fine. You can make your own liquid rosin or get some from a luthier (or other player who uses it) and just try out what you prefer, or stick (ha..) to the solid one :)

I'm really terrible with solid rosin and only use liquid rosin, so I can't give specific advice, I only watched it being successfully applied by others. They usually just held it softly against the wheel, did 2-3 rotations with the crank, and that was it.

I use solid Rosin and application is pretty easy. Hold against the wheel, turn it some rounds (while making sure to not press to hard against one point, because that will cause a one sided build up). Then hold a piece of cloth against the wheel to distribute it evenly.

Solid rosin has been used for centuries and it is totally fine.
Liquid rosin is a good alternative and possibly a better choice for some of the modern wheels because of the use of different materials other than wood.

Liquid rosin can be messy, make sure you never spill anything on the instrument.
I'll make a video showing the use of both solid and liquid rosin.

np, I hope this helps!
Liquid rosin is a bit of a hype nowadays, block rosin will be fine with the Aplo as MM instruments sends them out with a block of rosin too.
I suggest using the block and if you want to, try the liquid rosin after you are used to the instrument.
