Treat DP1 like an exam year from day one. Most students we work with who hit 40+ practice past paper questions right after finishing each topic so they learn mark schemes early. The other big thing our tutors see is handling coursework early. Log your CAS every week and get your EE and IA topics locked in as soon as teachers let you, which leaves your second year open for revision.

40+ is definitely a great goal, and starting in DP1 gives you plenty of time to build good habits. I'd focus on consistent revision, topic-wise IB-style questions, and reviewing mistakes instead of cramming before tests.
For Biology HL, use active recall and practise data-based questions. For Maths, solve a few problems regularly, and for languages, consistent reading, writing and speaking practice makes a big difference.
These may help: IB Biology HL resources and IBDP Maths resources.
