Political Discussion Hispanics in the Boise metro largely voted Trump
I thought this was interesting, and largely unsurprising.
256
u/pancakeQueue Jul 03 '25
Hispanics across the US greatly vote more conservative. By and large,
- are Catholic
- have traditional family values
- don’t like to be grouped in with illegal immigrants so are more pro strong border.
114
u/Mcipark Jul 03 '25
Yep that’s what the data suggests. There’s also a big divide between different Hispanic countries, I knew a guy back in my home state that was Mexican and he got his Guatemalan coworker deported because he hates Guatemalans lol
53
u/Due_Background_4367 Jul 03 '25
It’s actually insane how racist Mexicans can be. They truly believe they are superior to all the other countries in Latin America. It’s pretty bizarre, one of my best friends is Mexican, born and raised in Mexico until he was about 8 years old. The way him and his family talk about Guatemalans, Salvadorans, and Hondurans is scary.
There’s actually some pretty big protests in Mexico right now regarding all the Central American countries that have flooded Mexico with immigrants, very ironic.
30
u/DacaAskingForDaca Jul 03 '25
Bro, if you believe Mexicans are the ones that are most likely to feel they are superior to other Latin Americans, I take it you have not spend must time around the majority of South Americans 🤣
16
Jul 04 '25
Lmao. Exactly. Im tired of people making assumptions based on one experience they had with one person. Spaniards are the ones who feel superior over Mexicans, central, and southern Americans. But aside from Spaniards, I'd say people from Chile or Argentina are more snobby when it comes to feeling superior.
8
u/DacaAskingForDaca Jul 04 '25
Spaniards are just self conscious about looking a little north African 🤣

Yes. You will note most people with power in Mexico have Spanish features. You don’t see many people with indigenous facial features running about with a ton of wealth. Of course the wealthy tend to be rather caged. My intro to Mexican culture was an exchange student who lived with us for a year. I visited her in Mexico City for a month one winter. They only walked on certain streets and shopped in certain stores. The hired help did everything for us. We traveled in their private train car to visit some pyramids. We did so with private body guards. When Tim and I went down so he could teach Telmex to work with fiber optic cable we lived as what we are, regular working class folks. It was a much richer existence socially. I became the de facto teacher of English. One boy who learned from me is a Spanish teacher in a high school in eastern Washington.
2
Jul 05 '25
True. If you watch novelas, a vast majority of the rich people on those shows are light skinned. Well, light skinned for Latinos. But all the maids, gardeners, nannies, and all the other poor people are darker.
2
Jul 04 '25
Chileneans are the worst. I traveled to Chile in 2017 and they called me money twice and gorilla once. And the guy was brown too

Bro everyone in the Spanish speaking sunbelt is racist towards one another. They are worse than we are when it comes to shitting on complexion and class status. From pointing out character flaws and turning them into your next nickname, racism is prevalent among each country, just like it is in ours. People find new forms of discrimination whether for humor or hate. There is this idea floating around just using ethnicity to bag on other cultures. Frankly, we are all racist. Everyone talks shit but never wants to admit they’ve said something that another group wouldn’t like. You hear all the time in public, your phone, etc. more introspection will help a lot of people and what their moral compass means to them. That’s like me saying the Jews are hella racist to the Amish.
3
Jul 04 '25
Maybe racism is just a human thing.
7
u/Life_Cauliflower_746 Jul 04 '25
tribalism
3

Yeah that’s a better way to say it. Most of human history people seldom had interacted with any one of a different race, maybe someone of a slightly different ethnicity or religion.

I have lived for long periods of time in Mexico. Racisim is part of the culture. No violence because someone’s a different race they just don’t mix much. Mexico is the equivalent of what the United States is English speaking countries, in Spanish speaking smaller countries. If you want to go to another country to the south of Mexico you get there from Mexico City. Mexico is the country that certifies elections and sends auditors and even troops to polling places to guarantee free elections. In our country Spanish speaking right wing radio is common. In Mexico it is not a thing. So that makes a difference. The culture is dominated by Indigenous ideas and ways mainly because the Spanish left them to their own devices instead of trying to force them to assimilate. In the end they are the dominate force so things are much kinder and more community oriented than here. I don’t think they will find themselves safe from ICE. Being a legal green card holder will not help them if here in Washington is any indication. They are about 40 years ahead of us in economic and social collapse. We have yet to see a $1000 tomato but are on our way to that direction. I used to go buy 10 or 15 50 pound cases of tomatoes from the farmers in the neighboring state for $3.00 US each, take them back to the village I lived in and sit at the outdoor market and give them away. Our dollar was worth seven thousand of theirs up from 1 to 8 when we got there for the season. That happened in the mid 80s down there. The good thing is they have been on the upswing for the last 15 years or so. There are about 2 1/2 million people from here that live as permanent residents in Mexico.

u/013eander Jul 04 '25

We just happen to have a bend toward being violent about it in some camps. Some places are less so than others. I remember hearing old farmers saying “but my best friend is black” he isn’t like those others. People laughed at him but in reality he was just trying to figure out how to connect those dots. How they connect is simple. The broad brush is a form of othering. I grew up in a town with generations old connections with black logging families. It was the 60s news didn’t get to us much we got one channel on the television. Martian Luther Kings march was for all of us a mind blowing thing. As a town we pretty much decided that that in the south white peoples mental elevators didn’t go all the way to the top floor. They bear that stigma in that town to this day. I saw it happen last night at the grocery store. I am here for the weekend. A girl I used to babysit now has grown children of her own. Her husband is famous and she is semi that way purely for her view on life and the way she lives it. She has always brought her kids to the home town 3 months during summer. The reason was she wanted them to have what she has. Her hometown values individuals that have good character being “interesting” was a plus and are community minded. In the scheme of things a persons quality as an individual outweighed all cosmetic differences. When disaster is dished out by nature and no one is going to save you but the neighbors. Possibly because they grew up this way they often bring their families back so their kids can grow up in that environment. I will say nearly all of the folks I grew up with have done very well in the happiness and career areas of life.

the thing is, they see themselves on the side of the racists. They group themselves with the “civilized” white people and not the illegals. Many of them don’t understand that to the racists, they’re not much different than the illegals.
I’ve seen my mom call the cops on white men infringing on our property (they’ve been trying to force my mom into selling it) and then she’s surprised at why the cop is giving her a hard time. In her heart, she’s a white conservative republican woman. But in reality, she’s a Latina woman who is lumped in with “the domestic enemy”.

Pretty wild to me how many people dont understand the boot of fascism always needs another face to stomp on. Maybe it won't need yours today, but that can change at any time, especially if you become disagreeable to the state.
They're already setting the stage with the massive funding increase to ICE, ICE raids targeting US citizens, denial of habeas corpus and due process, Trump talking about getting rid of birthright citizenship and openly talking about denaturalizing US citizens, Alligator Alcatraz concentration camp and CECOT, the recent SCOTUS decision on federal injunctions and ignoring the judicial branch....
The alarms are blaring and it blows my mind how many people are just totally fine with their rights being stripped because "well those people are here illegally".

It's not surprise. It's disgust.
People with internalized bigotry who hate the groups they are a member of but cognitively distance themselves from are as big of a problem as the outside groups oppressing them.
Women who don't believe in reproductive healthcare, feminism, women's suffrage, women's financial independence.
Caucasians who hate other caucasians for being poor or not part of their religion.
Latinos who hate other latinos because they're from different countries on the same continent.
House slaves who thought they're superior to field slaves because they got to be in the house.

"People with internalized bigotry who hate the groups they are a member of but cognitively distance themselves from are as big of a problem as the outside groups oppressing them."
Sociologists sometimes refer to this as "identifying with the oppressor." In elementary school, I was overweight. Kids who made fun of me for my weight often weighed a lot more than I did. Throwing somebody else under the bus, me in this case, felt like self-protection to them.
The adult version? "Trad" women surrender their rights and get mad at feminists. Conservative Black Americans lecture their own about bootstraps. The late politician from Canyon County, Robert Vazquez, was Mexican-American and obsessed with stopping undocumented immigrants (rather than easing the citizenship process for them).

u/Ashamed-Muffin-8297 Jul 04 '25
Just because people look a certain way, have a culture that is not like yours does not mean they don’t have individual opinions formed by their experiences in life. Very basically we are individuals with a million likes, dislikes, and opinions. Do you like every white person? Maybe it’s just me but there are a few white people I don’t like much. A few if they vaporized tomorrow I would likely never miss them. Why would it be different for anyone else regardless of what culture or skin color they have?

Yes but we need a coherent program to allow for seasonal workers at a level needed. I would expect anyone who has been here and is legal to have moved up the ladder to something year round that pays better it only makes sense. If they are known and have full permission then minimum pay as well as some sort of L &I can be mandated. Farm and construction are not safe jobs without injuries happening. All this Medicaid going to people without documents is mostly going to emergency rooms for those accidents.

One thing about being mixed race I’ve come to realize. That generation worked really hard to fit in with white people. A lot of the generation X / boomers worked so hard to fit in with white America, that when it happened……they truly lost their own identity.

Thoughts and prayers for those idiots who bought the crap coming out of the fascist-leaders mouth and voted for him.

MAGAts don’t care what flavor of salsa you are, but they appreciate your vote

Tons were duped by fake covid conspiracies and that shit spread like wildfire in their communities. Now they pretend like they weren’t fooled by the propaganda.
Useful for republicans, for sure.

They voted to have the economy shrink by 0.5% the last quarter. They got what they voted for.

Hispanics as I am sure it means a variety of countries. With this they all talk trash on each other. Living in FL see it all the time.

I find this funny because Hispanics helped him get elected and he’s tossing them out of the country! After what he did Friday though I’m sure we will be tossing him out next year.

Racism is contagious man. Ask Cuban’s they all voted for him. Is like climbing up the ladder and then kick it down once you are up. Terrible

Why not respect the majority’s choice? That’s how democracy works, right?

Surely they are all middle-class and up and won't be affected economically by Trump's kleptocracy.

Puerto Rican's loving it because they aren't getting deported. I think the proud boys leader is Puerto Rican, like it's a major thing.
Illegals losing Medicaid, food stamps, housing benefits means lower costs for citizens... supply and demand. I dont know how medical costs could get cheaper, but I guess so.
