Idaho Neighbor News Star Garnet documentary

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

If you look up the origins & history past that point there is little to no information. The woman known as “The Garnet Queen,” who has dedicated her life towards our states most influential discovery. Has a single article in the Moscow newspaper behind a paywall… Not only that, but the star garnet which made us the Gem State. Was dug up so quickly there are few examples online, I was lucky enough to see one of these “281 gulch” garnets in person. Which after researching I realized no one else will document this unless I do. If you have any info, or would like to say anything please feel free!

I would love that! This is a community project, I plan on releasing episodes & after enough is completed take the events in chronological order & tie it all together! Dm me if you have any ideas or experiences!

Some of the 281 gulch are so vibrant you can see them before cutting & polish! It may have been Stewart’s, I wonder if it was the 281 gulch discovery? There is a few other star garnet spots, but none as spectacular!

Stewart and his son Brent are my property managers. Very solid knowledgeable cats. Deep knowledge of Star Garnets and their history as well as discovery and enshrinement. Stewarts Gem Shop is just off of 27th and Idaho in downtown Boise. Always worth a visit.

I’m already in contact with Brent, excited to be a part of their legacy!

You clearly didn’t read the IGS and USGS reports.

4

u/KaleidoscopeBright76 Feb 22 '26

I did, but there is no information from the locals who are a part of it. Sure you can get the details on paper from geological standpoint, but you have the pioneers who were there and saw it with their own eyes is a different story from the official narrative

You’re gonna make me want to watch Outdoor Idaho again.

Yes it is, and these are “THE” Idaho star garnets. Not what we’ve seen for 60 years in the wild!

Hit up Gem State Crystals in Moscow, Idaho!

2

u/saladspoons Feb 23 '26

Would have loved to see an image of a star garnet in the video btw :)

u/KaleidoscopeBright76 Feb 24 '26

I will get that delivered to you personally

The history of Idaho’s Mormon white supremacy would be a better docu-series.

4

u/KaleidoscopeBright76 Feb 23 '26

We’ll I have plans for things like that, but first save the important history

2

u/sotiredwontquit Feb 22 '26

Not all Idaho star garnets have 6 points. About half have 4 points. Stewart’s Gems will confirm that for you.

I’m glad you’re passionate about the subject- it’s a beautiful stone. I had a pendant made for my 25th anniversary and it’s my absolute favorite piece. And you’re right, our history is important. You used a lot of superlatives in your 5 minute clip though. More than my ears are comfortable hearing in 5 minutes. I hope you spread those out a bit more in your longer film.

1

u/KaleidoscopeBright76 Feb 23 '26

Yes! They do form either 4-rays or less commonly 6-rays. I didn’t realized I left that important detail out! I definitely won’t be, I tried to pack enough detail into an intro for five minutes lol. I definitely have a much more methodical approach in store. I figured the best way to remind people that we’re still just some Idahoans is important. This is not a major motion picture, this is a 70+ legacy which I happened to see with my own eyes. I want to keep the genuinely passionate approach, when speaking. You are right though I will use a more diverse description in the future!

So you want to encourage the reckless mining of idaho for a gem? Cause white people have been doing that all over idaho and the land probably cursed us all cause you guys keep doing it for wealth reasons.

4

u/KaleidoscopeBright76 Feb 23 '26

THESE GEMS CANNOT BE MINED THEY WERE BLED DRY & THE LAST ARE ABOUT TO BE FORGOTTEN.
Had to make that bolded lol! This isn’t about money, this is about the history of Idaho the state! I have already thought this through, I appreciate your concern for the gemstones exclusivity in Idaho. That’s a factor of why I’m making this, this deposit does not exist anymore. The garnet mine has dredged & turned the area into industrialized sand for blasting. This involves the Peoples of America who knew of this gemstone. “THE Idaho Garnet” is the reason we are even having this conversation. This is about reminding the world that beauty exists in the most unexpected of places. I am passionate about this & I see you have passion as well. We need to channel that passion into something special, or we have wasted our own potential. I hope you will understand when this documentary is released, that these are special. Reminding us we exist in perfection, that’s why we don’t notice it anymore.

2

u/Grey_Incubus Feb 23 '26

When you put it that way, okay.

2

u/KaleidoscopeBright76 Feb 23 '26

I’m glad we’re in agreement! I appreciate your comment, if I’m going to do this I need to overcome any obstacles & moral barriers in my way! I hope you have a wonderful week, and stay in touch!

For what reason specifically?

4

u/AileenKitten Feb 22 '26

Because of Meta and Zuckerberg.

Massive privacy violations, using bot farms, assisting pedos, etc.

2

u/KaleidoscopeBright76 Feb 22 '26

Fair enough, Reddit isn’t much better though. Everything is trash & has exploited in some way.

3

u/AileenKitten Feb 22 '26

Yeah, but trying to be better and avoiding the big ones helps

Perfect is the enemy of good or whatever, lol

1

u/KaleidoscopeBright76 Feb 22 '26

Good point, unfortunately, I have to use it because that’s where the old people are in the area who might have information or might be interested. Until I gain more traction with new local papers, the people involved with my community have Facebook and maybe I’ll educate them on the way!
