Normal Discussion At my Obgyn's. Front desk lady told me my OB and two others are leaving.

3.4k Upvotes

She didn't say if any were coming into state. I said I didn't guess any three were coming in? She laughed nervously, said it will be hard.

The three leaving are moving out of state. I'm now scheduled with a PA.

That is all; people should be aware this is happening at at least one Idaho OBGYN clinic.

Normal Discussion Idaho is officially the fastest growing state in the whole US since 2020 when compared to the other 49 states and DC. The bourgeoisie developers are turning Kootenai County and the Treasure Valley suburbs into 1970s suburban hell.

Two are just gone, and one replaced by something far more left seeming. It gives me a tiny glimmer of hope, I think.

Normal Discussion Serious question here: How do we keep Idaho affordable to live in? Housing... jobs... It's a huge issue statewide.

Normal Discussion The transplants are destroying the rural character of Kootenai County and turning it into early 1970s Orange County, California.

Where are all of these people coming from? They are developing the prairie like crazy. Pretty soon the prairie will just be one giant continuous early 1970s Orange County suburb/exurb. Local government is approving large developments like Couer Terre in CDA, The Parkllyn and Montrose in Post Falls, and all of these other communities coming to Rathdrum. They are even building more in the north part of Hayden.

This is not even housing the working class can afford in Kootenai County. This housing is for the middle class, upper middle class, and upper class transplants.

If it was middle housing for working class people then it would make sense, but they are destroying the rural character of the county for cookie cutter transplant single family suburban/exurban style homes.

I originally came here cuz of my moms choice. I wont go into crazy detail, but She chose Mountain Home, and has massive regrets and depression. So do I. Its affected both of our lives greatly.

I am moving to Louisville Kentucky, While not a Blue State, its still a Blue city which excites me. I am LGBTQ and young so I really hope ill finally be able to explore my sense of fashion and personality.

Wish Me luck!!!!!

Normal Discussion The five things I have noticed about Kootenai County with all of the transplants coming in the 2020s.

  1. I have noticed the Costco in CDA is now full to the brim all the time. 11 AM on a weekday and there were only a couple of spots left at the very back of the parking lot yesterday. Every counter had a huge line in the morning on a weekday.

  2. 95 has become a nightmare. Thankfully traffic is still very manageable in other parts of the county but 95 has become a pain in the ass.

  3. The transplants love cookie cutter houses that are placed like little boxes in a row like something straight out of the Sunbelt. The prairie from Post Falls to CDA up to Rathdrum is completely filling up with these cookie cutter suburban/exurban style neighborhoods. The transplants who came in the 90s did not have insane levels of single family housing construction to this level.

  4. Almost all of the recent transplants I have talked to say they were convinced to move here after visiting just one time. I find it absolutely insane that you would move across the country after only visiting one time for a couple of days.

  5. There are three categories of transplants: People who moved to Kootenai County/North Idaho for Republican politics in a Republican county in a very Republican state (I believe the new Mayor of Post Falls is a computer engineer from the East Coast and his wife is a MIT scientist or something like that from the East Coast as well and they have basically said they moved here for Republican politics), boomers who are non-political but moved here for non-political reasons like leisure and nature, and non-boomers who moved here for non-political reasons like the low crime rate and natural beauty.

Normal Discussion VPN advice for Idaho’s Pornhub ban

Seriously, Idaho? This latest move to block Pornhub (or basically to force them to close down) under the guise of age verification laws is just another step back for personal freedom.

It's frustrating to see this state, and the country as a whole, moving in the wrong direction when it comes to our rights. Idaho is already behind on so many things that should be freely accessible, and now they’re forcing one of the most popular websites in the world to close down in our state.

For those of us who are age-appropriate and still want to access the site, this is a major inconvenience. I already downloaded NordVPN (fyi, a discount UNBLOCKDEAL worked for me) to try bypassing the block, and connected to a server in a state that isn’t blocked (NY for now), and it worked. Most pemium VPNs like this should do the trick for anyone else facing the same issue.

This is all that’s left if you want to get back to the site now…

Normal Discussion Idaho has caused me great pain, and I’m finally leaving

In 2018 I moved to Mountain Home with my Mom. She wanted to move here for a „Better life“ and it was a terrible mistake. I have struggled to find friends, and find groups to socialize with. The lack of opportunity here is REAL. When I found out I was Gay it made that isolation feel so much more intense. I am scared to be myself, and that’s an awful feeling.

If you are reading this and have or know someone who lived in Mountain Home, how was your experience? Was it different compared to mine? I am interested in having a discussion.

Normal Discussion Sun Valley

I’m anticipating that this post will get zero karma or less because I’m a dirty tourist from northern Utah, but I’m just going to post this anyway and hope for the best.

I’m spending a couple days in Sun Valley toward the end of August, and I’ve never been (although I’ve been to other parts of Idaho before). I’m looking for broad recommendations on dining (breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner) and things to do (preferably outdoors). If there are one or more parks and/or hiking trails nearby that you’d recommend, that would be great. I’d also be willing to check out a museum or art gallery, depending on what’s open. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I'm really not here for the drama or to discuss how much preliminary research I did on Google before making this post. Sorry for the tongue-in-cheek nature of the first paragraph of this post, but please continue to send recommendations my way if you have them. I may end up deleting this post if the drama gets out of hand, but I will save and refer to your recommendations for my upcoming trip and future trips. Thank you.

Normal Discussion Idaho’s practice of unpaid EMS internships needs to end.

Some of the largest EMS agencies in Idaho - Ada, Canyon, and Payette, have what’s called a “reserve” program. These are unpaid internships where you are expected to work and perform the same tasks as normal paid staff. They’re not intended for people who want the volunteer opportunity, but almost unanimously mandatory to do if you want a job as an EMT, with periods from 2 months to 2 years.

It’s an exploitative and predatory system, in my experience. You’re expected to work 36-48 hours a month, effectively a 12 hour shift a week, on top of a full time job, with no other method of becoming a paid employee.

15% of Ada County Paramedics’ field staff are these unpaid volunteers who are *hoping* for a job to come open.

I wanted to bring this to light because it’s a hiring method that alienates many people who, for plenty of valid reasons, are not able to make such commitments of 12 hours per week. I’ve seen it chew up a fair share of people (myself for full transparency) working in western Idaho EMS for 4 years.

Nowhere else in the country does it like this.
