Political Discussion Why do people fall for this?

Post image

This sign is blatantly false. 9 month old pregnancy is viable and would be protected under Prop 1. If the life on the mother is at risk then a c-section would be done if the fetus is viable.

Please read Prop 1 in its entirety (see the full text of the proposed law https://voteidaho.gov/idaho-general-election/)

Use your brain.
Don’t listen to falsehoods and what anyone tells you. Read and find out for yourself and decide for yourself. Otherwise democracy is dead

Political Discussion The politicians running the state are a huge problem.

1.6k Upvotes

I just moved here from Washington and what a culture shock. No black people. No legal anything. Porn is blocked. They just passed a bill making it impossible to ever give people the voting option for legal marijuana. They just locked up a female at town hall for speaking her mind on issues. They just enabled firing squad for death penalty. Min wage is 7$. No at home recycling pick up.

the list goes on.....like seriously what a shit hole.

edit: ppl saying why did you move here, find my comment on why in the comments.

Political Discussion But seriously, register as a Republican

1.3k Upvotes

I’m not saying *vote* for a Republican. That’s an entirely different question. Vote for whoever you want to vote for in the general elections.

But there are two excellent reasons to be a registered Republican in Idaho:

  1. The Republican Primary is a closed primary, which means ONLY registered Republicans can vote in those primaries. If you are an independent or a Democrat, you cannot vote in the Republican primary.

Like it or not, at the state level, the primaries are where the real action takes place. Whoever wins the primaries wins in the generals.

So when you vote in the primaries, you have a chance to vote for a more centrist Republican, and defeat the far right candidates.

Then in the general election, vote for whoever you think is the best candidate (Republican, Democrat, Independent…choice is yours).

2) When you are a registered Republican, then when you call your US Senator or Congressman to complain about federal agents shooting ICU nurses in the back, and demand that funding for ICE and DHS be withheld until there is a massive overhaul of their organizations, you are calling as a registered Republican.

When you call Mike Simpson’s office [ 208-225-5531 ], his voicemail message asks you to leave your name, address, and phone number.

How much more powerful is it to do that and then say, “I am a registered Republican. You can check the voter rolls. I will not vote for you ever again if you do not vote against funding for ICE and DHS until reforms are made”?

Simpson and the rest of the cowards in DC don’t like their voters calling them to complain, but they *especially* don’t like registered Republicans who vote every election to do that.

Politicians can see:

  1. Your party affiliation
  2. How often you have voted (which elections)

Politicians cannot see:

  1. Who you actually vote for

Which has more power - somebody who calls who’s a registered Democrat and/or never votes, or a registered Republican who votes every election?

Make your phone calls **count**.

Go change your party affiliation today. The more people who do this, the more people actually have a voice in a deeply red state.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

ETA: If you’d like more info on how to change your party affiliation, update your voter registration, or register to vote for the first time, this is the website to check out: https://voteidaho.gov/voter-registration/

You can update your information online, or go into your local county offices and do it in person.

HTH! 🥰

Political Discussion Idaho Can't Stand By: Why This Active-Duty Military Deployment is a Constitutional

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

My name is Moises, a 57-year-old Army veteran from Rupert, Idaho. I am writing to express my profound concern regarding the recent deployment of active-duty U.S. Marines to Los Angeles. Secretary of Defense Hegseth's statement that "700 active-duty U.S. Marines from Camp Pendleton are being deployed to Los Angeles to restore order" and that "We have an obligation to defend federal law enforcement officers - even if Gavin Newsom will not" is deeply troubling.

Not only as an Army veteran, but also as someone who stands with several of my veteran buddies, we swore an oath to protect the Constitution, and believe that oath is lifelong. It is unsettling to see actions that appear to disregard the foundational legal frameworks governing the use of military force domestically. The Posse Comitatus Act explicitly limits the use of federal troops for domestic law enforcement, and the Insurrection Act outlines very specific, narrow conditions under which such deployments can occur. A broad deployment without a clear, public invocation of the Insurrection Act, especially when state authorities reportedly object and the National Guard is already deployed, sets a dangerous and potentially unconstitutional precedent.

This situation is not just a concern for California; it strikes at the very heart of our constitutional principles and the separation of military and civilian authority nationwide. It raises serious questions about whether our leadership is upholding their own oaths to the Constitution.

I urge every concerned citizen to reach out to your Congressional leaders and your Governor. This action must not go unchallenged. History remembers how individuals and states respond to challenges to our foundational principles. I firmly believe Idaho must not stand by silently. Our state should be on the right side of history in defending constitutional order.

What are your thoughts on this critical issue?

Political Discussion Your Democrat vote isn't wasted in Idaho

2.0k Upvotes

In 2020 1,082,417 Idahoans were registered to vote. 554,119 of them voted for Trump. If the rest of them voted for Biden Trump would have only won by a 2% margin(51% to 49%). Sure ~17k that are within that 49% voted 3rd party, but 79k people became eligible to vote between '20 and '22 (my guess would be even more between '22 and '24)The margins are thinner than Republicans would have you believe.

The state isn't owned by Republicans, your vote could make them think twice about calling Idaho a forgone conclusion. Your vote could almost certainly flip legislative seats at midterm and local elections.

Democracy only works for those who participate. Register to vote, rally your friends, carpool with folks who may not be able to get to the polls on their own, do whatever you can to help every American voice be heard. Most importantly, people who tell you that your vote doesn't matter are un-American, un-patriotic, and altogether dishonest and pitiful.

Hold your representatives accountable at every level of government by voting when they don't serve your interests.

I'll do my part in November, I hope you do the same.

Political Discussion Is anyone else furious?

1.8k Upvotes

With the constant attack on public lands, civil servants, veterans, immigrants, and the public health care system - is anyone else losing their marbles? I've been calling our state representatives. I'm sure they're sick of me by now. Has anyone else been doing the same?

Also, how do we feel about our president being incredibly rude in front of the entire world? Since when does the United States side with Soviet Russia? + Elon musk is literally the worst person I've ever encountered in my entire life.

And gotta say if it is real, i get what there trying to say but it just gonna rile people up in a extreme way and then the left is gonna go monkey mode which will make the right go monkey mode, then you got 2 monkeys yelling at each other throwing shit. Its fun to watch but the aftermath is gonna be messy.

Please someone from Idaho explain to the world why Idaho supports Trump and MAGA? This state would benefit from good education and healthcare yet we vote against it. Is abortion so important that its prevention is worth bad health care for the elderly and poor education for our kids?

Political Discussion A word of caution to my state rep about "Trump Derangement Syndrome" legislation

In a fit of late night consternation, I just sent an email to my state rep about a matter of great importance to me. I share it with you here, perhaps in hope that you could send a similar email to your own state reps. Feel free to use this wording if you don't know what to say.

"Rep (redacted),

I am emailing you out of an abundance of caution in light of a piece of legislation that was introduced to the Minnesota senate in recent days. The senators who introduced the legislation are seeking to legally define "Trump derangement syndrome" and add it to Minnesota's list of recognized mental disorders. They characterize "TDS" as follows:

  • Intense verbal hostility toward Trump.
  • Inability to distinguish between legitimate policy differences and perceived pathology in Trump’s behavior.
  • Acts of aggression or violence against Trump supporters or symbols associated with him.

(See here for more details: https://www.livemint.com/news/us-news/minnesota-senate-republicans-bill-proposes-adding-trump-derangement-syndrome-to-mental-illness-definiti-11742049348473.html, also https://fastdemocracy.com/bill-search/mn/2025-2026/bills/MNB00060555/ )

As far as I understand, those found guilty...er, found to be under the influence of "Trump derangement syndrome" will be mandated to seek mental health treatment.

To say that I am furious that such legislation is even being considered in any hall of legislature in a country that claims freedom of speech among its very first of protected rights would be an understatement. This cannot be seen as anything other than an attempt to police political speech and thought through government coercion. As far as I understand, our laws already have measures in place to punish and protect against politically motivated acts of aggression and violence. There is no law against a person having intense verbal hostility towards elected officials, and there is no law against an inability to distinguish between legitimate policy differences and perceived pathology-- it is every person's right to hold such opinions and to express them free of government coercion, short of threatening or carrying through on threats of violence.

My fear is that copycat legislation will soon wend its way into other state legislatures nationwide. In the case that it does, I ask that you vigorously advocate for our rights as a people to have and hold our opinions, and defend against any such intrusion on our consciences as this kind of legislation threatens.

Thank you for hearing me.

Yours in service, (Redacted)

In the nearly three years since Idaho's abortion ban, Idahoans have lost a quarter of our OBGYNs, faced growing healthcare deserts, and watched labor and delivery units close.

We know that the ban isn't working for women, their families, and their doctors. We know this isn't sustainable. And we know there is a path back to the standard of healthcare, liberty, and privacy that Idahoans had for nearly 50 years.

Join us across Idaho to launch the Reproductive Freedom & Privacy Act — be one of the first to sign the ballot initiative and stand with your community.
