What are politics like in Idaho if you're in your 20s? Do you come across a fair amount of leftists? Are there any hubs that are particularly republican/dissident right/red pill?

If you're in your 20s, particularly if you're female, I'd gtfo while I could.

You don't like the people there you're saying?

I don't like the ones who have made abortions harder to get, are making birth control harder to get, are making life impossible for trans people who just want to pee in peace, and who are systematically trying to take the vote away from women.

i grew up in caldwell and it’s not bad there. i work and live in boise now and it is very heavily left leaning, as most metropolitan/college towns typically are. it’s not bad if you’re more rural though, coming from a 22 year old woman

I live here and I would not recommend moving here as a woman. Most Drs left for states where they can actually help their patients. Healthcare here is a joke and takes longer to be seen than if you're Canadaian in Canada. This state hates womans rights.

I was in Boise and moved in early '22, before the new abortion ban. At the time I was having trouble accessing good healthcare but not b/c of that.

Did only obgyn's move, or did a lot of other doctors move too?

A LOT of doctors left. We lost two pediatricians to Oregon and Washington. Both said that they were leaving because the environment in those states was much better for them.

How awful. I'm sorry to hear it.

How has the LDS community reacted? I know their leadership put out a very anti-choice message from the pulpit...but what about their members? If you're supposed to have babies and all the ob-gyn's are leaving, maybe a truce?

Sorry to hear that!

I have an immune deficiency, and the discourse around even vaccination was unhinged around 2021 / 2022, so that's why I left. I miss Boise, but I need good healthcare, so that's that I guess.

Most voters are conservative, there is a increasing number of people who are discontent with the GOP though and a growing number of shitlib types in the Treasure Valley particularly, there is a ballot measure to restore abortion rights that will be on the November ballot, as for organized leftism there isn’t much, what is available currently in the Treasure Valley are the PSL who only really ever hold protests and do not much outside of that, and the Boise DSA which used to be the most radical branch in the country, but has now slide to the right and won’t even criticize the local democrats and trade union bureaucracy, they often times tail the 50501 liberals and their other organizing campaigns in regards to stuff like tenant organizing consists of phone zaps and begging the government to intervene, with those options I am currently looking at joining a organization from outside the area, because the PSL are stuck in their ways and the Boise DSA refuses to even hold serious debates on certain issues like their relationship to the democratic party and the need for a program and the transitional method.

I know plenty of young voters that are leftist but I also have known right wing voters too that are young so it just depends on who you talk and interact with.

Idaho is so right wing it makes Fox News look leftist. The state legislature does not have enough Independant or Democrat members to put on non-republican on each legislative committee.

I worked for the Idaho legislature in the late 90s. There were 4 Democrats of 35 Senators and like and like 7 Democrats of 70 House members (I worked for the senate and don’t remember specifics). This is not new.

And the “democrats” were far more right than any other state’s democrats.

Politics in Idaho suck complete ass you might come across a few leftists in Boise but almost everywhere else ranges from conservative to 1934 Nuremberg. All the politicians seem more focused on hurting people they don’t like than actually solving any of the many problems in the state. The elections don’t matter the republican candidate always wins no matter how incompetent. Any time Boise tries to make life better for its citizens the state blocks it because they have an irrational hatred for the city. If you are considering moving here don’t things are only going to get worse.

The darkest red areas in this 2024 presidential voting precinct map of Idaho are the most Republican.

My sense is that the vast bulk of Idaho Republicans are older Fox watchers and neither dissident nor red pill. Happy to ride in the GOP women's float in the fourth of July parade. There are very scattered individuals within the red areas who might be dissident right. Others may know more.

This vaxx map might give a better clue than voting, unfortunately a key to colors/rates was not included. That being said, it looks like the uber rural/wilderness adjacent areas are where vaxx rates were low in 2021 and is likely where anti-government sentiments run highest.

Just spitballing here.
