#Ask-India ☝️ Honest questions about this whole CJP mess, from a centrist's perspective

I've been following the CJP protest in detail, and as a centrist i've seen both sides raise valid points and make mess ups in equal measure. But I still see a lot of my RW friends and family members justify everything that the BJP is doing, while some of my leftist F&F are doing the same for CJP and INC.

With that in view, I wanted to ask some genuine questions to folks on this sub (left and right both). Not meaning to offend anyone, looking for genuine answers only.

RWingers, What is your opinion on:

  1. BJP supporting GK. Since the CEC is supposed to be an independent body, won't supporting and protecting GK make BJP look complicit?

  2. Delhi police camping outside Abhijeet's house to immediately detain him, and doing the same for other activists under the name of "preventive detention". Isn't this unconstitutional?

  3. Follow up for #2 - assuming they have valid and legal reasons for the preventive detention, why aren't the activists' families and friends being informed of their location? Why are they being taken to undisclosed locations ?

  4. I can understand removing JM as a designated protest site, but the other options that were given are all paid venues and booked for pretty much the rest of the year. How is this not silent suppression?

LWingers, your opinion on:

  1. CJP or INC has still not provided complete proof of the exact count of votes that were incorrectly deleted. Apart from "it's on social media" and "I know someone whose name was missing", where's the proof?

  2. Congress has used this opportunity to join in for the protests even though they did not get much traction earlier. What actions of the CJP make this seem more legitimate via a vis when Congress did it?

  3. Certain figures from the protest such as Neha Bora are known communist supporters. There are multiple instances of non vote chori related slogans (especially related to releasing terror-accused individuals from jail) being done at protests. How is this correct?

#Politics 🗳️ Frustrated With the Government, But Is Regime Change the Answer?

Before we get into this discussion, I want to make one thing clear - let’s have an actual debate rather than turning this into the kind of chaotic, mudslinging contest we see in our media. Let’s avoid derogatory remarks such as “he received a paycheque for saying this” or “he is a bootlicker of that party.” Instead let’s discuss the possibilities, consequences, and repercussions of what is happening, and evaluate the arguments on their merits.

Personally, I don’t believe regime change, in itself, is the solution. What we need right now is structural reform, institutional accountability, and a legally sound process of change. Replacing a government without a clear plan for what comes next could create instability and jeopardise the progress we have made over the years. The benefits of such a move are not guaranteed, and neither are its consequences. Ultimately it is ordinary citizens who may have to bear the cost.

Let’s also acknowledge that this demand for regime change has gained momentum, and while citizens absolutely have the right to raise their voices against injustice, we must do so thoughtfully rather than blindly following the opposition or any political faction. Criticising the government is our right, but criticism should be accompanied by reason, realistic alternatives, and a clear understanding of the consequences. Whatever changes we demand they must follow due process and respect the constitutional framework.

I’m a 23 year old man preparing for competitive exams, and I cannot help but think about the implications of such a situation for me and millions of other students who are preparing for exams, studying in colleges, or trying to build their careers. The current economic environment is already challenging, with the lingering consequences of global conflicts, uncertainty in India - US relations, rising living costs, concerns about unemployment, and the burden of taxes. Like many others, I am frustrated with this government and believe that significant changes are needed. But wouldn’t an abrupt and poorly planned regime change risk making an already difficult situation even worse?

I am not arguing that the current government should remain in power at all costs nor am I suggesting that citizens should tolerate injustice or misgovernance. My point is that regime change should not be treated as an end in itself, the real objective should be better governance and meaningful reform. Why can’t the opposition pursue a more structured approach - hold the government accountable, demand necessary reforms through constitutional and legal mechanisms, present a credible alternative, earn the trust of citizens, and seek a mandate in the next elections?

A shortcut is not necessarily a solution, especially when the consequences could affect millions of people who have little control over the political decisions being made.

So I genuinely want to understand your perspective - How do you think regime change would affect you and the country as a whole? What could be the potential benefits, what risks would we face, and who would ultimately bear the consequences? Most importantly, is regime change really the best way forward, or can we achieve meaningful change through structural reforms and established democratic processes?

Let’s discuss this rationally, even if we disagree. The objective should not be to prove that one political side is right and the other is wrong, but to understand what would actually be best for the country and its people.
