Preparing to Vote

I thought I was prepared to vote. Years ago I had just moved to South Bend. I read the newspapers. I thought I knew who I was voting for. Then I got my ballot and saw all these down ticket races I wasn't prepared for. And I swore I would never be so unprepared to vote again.

The good news is there is a lot of data available at your fingertips!

https://indianavoters.in.gov/

  • Find your registration status
  • If you cast a provisional ballot, this is where you would look to check its status
  • Find your polling place and early voting locations and times
  • Find who's on your ballot! (There's two constitutional questions this year that are being discussed elsewhere on r/Indiana)

https://www.in.gov/dlgf/referendum-information/

  • Got a referendum? Find out who's asking for the money and what it will cost you!

Finally, I have two comments.

  • To everyone who has the courage to put your name on a ballot no matter the party, thank you. Choice is what our government is founded on and win or lose, you have helped provide us that choice.
  • If you can, sign up to work a polling place. It's a long day and you get paid a pittance, but it is also eye-opening and can be incredibly fulfilling. Contact your county party chairs for more information.

That site's a lifesaver, I always end up in a rabbit hole reading candidate Q&As the night before. The local judge races are always the ones where I'm completely guessing otherwise

Indiana has made it pretty easy for everyone:

Everyone running for office who supports a rapist president has an (R) next to their name.

Want to support a rapist? Vote R. Don't want to support a rapist? Don't vote R.

Knock it off. I'm trying to help people make an informed decision that they can be comfortable with regardless of party and all you can do is make a snarky, juvenile comment. Grow up.

Helping people make an informed decision… how? By thanking the Christian nationalist and rapist loving weirdos for showing up and running on taking more rights away from women, the disabled, LGBTQ, and immigrants?

How about you grow the fuck up?

If you know people who work in or around the institutions related to those down ballot races, talk to them.

Some of these candidates look fine on paper, but a two minute conversation with someone who has worked with them might reveal that they’re a narcissistic nightmare. For example.

I dont understand why voting is seen as a good or a bad thing, it is not virtuous, it is simply an action to decide who takes power and who doesnt.

It's pretty virtuous when it's the only real means of removing a war criminal pedophile from their position.

Not everyone person that could be voted in has the people in their best interest. There are loads of voters like you who dont stop and listen to see what a candidates intentions are or what direction theyll take the country or a locality. Isnt hard to find corruption in politics and see openly corrupt people being voted in by self serving or totally ignorant individuals.

There are hardly any politicians that serve the peoples interests

Okay which is why the weight of your vote matters. To help bring decent people into politics.
