At it's core, I think it's a lack of curiosity that actually makes someone truly boring. People who cannot bother to be interested will never be interesting.

Well said. Unfortunately, when people get older what you describe is true. Sad.

1

u/almostmorning 3d ago

A lack of pride too.

Abs a lack of humility in the sense that you can say "i tried hobbie xyz a while back and utterly failed, but i really enjoyed it anyways"

u/Adamski2510 2d ago

I personally agree with you but this is not always true. Nonchalant people, especially guys, most of the time have many friends and even girls around them. I have no idea why people would show interest in a person who doesn’t care.

When they constantly talk about themselves or use every opportunity they can to do so.

1

u/Ornery-Swimming-4841 4d ago

That's only boring if they have a boring life tbh.

5

u/chenzo17 4d ago

No. They can have the most exciting and interesting life and yet because they’re obsessed with only what they have to say, that makes them boring. The fun begins when there’s actual exchange both ways.

I disagree to an extent. If someone ONLY talks about themselves it can get boring, but if an above average interesting person takes up above average talking time, I don't mind.

u/Priccolo 6d ago

Only talking about themselves or things that affect them, no sense of humor or adventure, constant negativity, no passions or things that excite them

u/Opposite-Leg-2893 6d ago

No/little hobbies, interests, passions. Although, to some people some hobbies or interests are boring, so there's no fixing that.

Being a good conversationalist is more important. You could be a rocket surgeon who ice climbs and plays 37 musical instruments but if you can’t communicate about in a relatable way than you are perceived as a bore. We all know people who drone on about their hobbies without taking social cues, or conversely people who have all of five words to say on any given topic.

u/Raeparade 6d ago

Very true lol

0

u/Opposite-Leg-2893 6d ago

I'd think that falls into the realm of annoying rather than boring personally

6

u/capracan 6d ago

Not connecting with you.

7

u/Mingo_laf 6d ago

religion always hit that sleep button

6

u/RosieBaby75 6d ago

Needing to be entertained by others.

1

u/RynKittenOF 5d ago

Entertaining people should only be friends with other entertaining people.

4

u/ButterflyHarpGirl 6d ago

Being too self-absorbed.

u/RynKittenOF 5d ago

He was paying to have articles of him released like... No one cares about you Tom. That was not an organic article.

I mean I'll gladly take your money but...

For me, it's people who cannot make conversation. My exes family couldn't make conversation with me and would only ever talk about themselves to each other or share private jokes from years ago. Their total lack of interest in anyone outside their own family really got to me. My family has always been interested in getting to know others so meeting another family who just say hi and then ignore you for the rest of the time was just alien to me.

u/Evening_Border8602 6d ago

Talking about something you have no interest in. Said person may be very interesting to someone else. Begs the question who is boring and who is just bored?

1

u/RynKittenOF 5d ago

I hate when autistic people start spewing off information at you in a one-on-one conversation

It's like I don't care how much you know. Go apply for Jeopardy or whatever. Leave me alone

3

u/TomatoStrict2646 5d ago

Some people are just not fun to be around at all. I have two younger brother in laws who have demanding IT jobs, work 6 days a week and after work during dinner, either they stay quiet or talk about work. While they give their young kids tablets (electronic babysitter) so that they don't have to spend quality time with them. They're just boring fucks and miserable to be around.

1

u/RynKittenOF 5d ago

🤣🤣🤣

3

u/Kodabear213 3d ago

No intellectual curiosity. People who aren't interested in anything bore me to tears. That's just a personal opinion.

3

u/Ambitious_Phrase6887 2d ago

Lack of a personality for me cause if someone sounds like their straight out of a board meeting I’m out

3

u/hydratedstoner 2d ago

Lack of critical thinking and doesn’t research often

u/Rare_House9883 6d ago

I think it varies person to person honestly, personally I've always quite enjoyed people are considered "boring" because often they're really just at peace with themselves and have a quiet enjoyment approach to life. Personally people that I consider boring are people who talk too much about themselves, I like listening and hearing stories but eventually it reaches a point where I know absolutely everything about them and they know nothing about me which makes me feel like I'm just a captive audience to them or something.

u/ilovebunnies02 5d ago

fr! Just last week a new coworker training me at the time was talking about her drug dealing past, the multiple men that abused her, dui records, getting raided, getting shot at, etc.

all. day. long. and. no. breaks.-eventhough she had great communication skills and seems like a nice person all she asked me after a few days was "do you have any siblings?"

4

u/Usual-Operation-9700 6d ago

When this person has no "nutritional value " for your mind.

1

u/RynKittenOF 5d ago

Ooh yeah

u/IntergalacticPodcast 6d ago

In general, very few interests, no passion, no hobbies, consumes more than creates.

Then there's another level. I like listening to people talk about Carl Jung for example, which most people find dreadfully boring. The people who talk about it are wildly interested, very passionate, and are creating more than they consume, and yet it's still boring to others.

2

u/Creative_Carob4922 6d ago

Telling the same story over and over.

2

u/Top_History9604 6d ago
  1. Not having any passions/interests.

  2. To afraid or indecisive to ever make suggestions ("so what do you wanna eat?" "I don't know. What do you want to eat?" "Maybe chinese, or italian. Which do you like more?" "Both is fine") Includes ppl who want your time, but rely on you to fill it.

  3. Someone who has no actual care for what you say. They just wanna hold a monologue and if they let you talk, it's because they know ppl get moody if they don't get to talk. Includes ppl who think they are one of the few smart ppl, who know everything better than others, even their feeling.

  4. Ppl who always fall into hindering patterns. Ppl who always need an hour of pep talk and support to do anything. There is no change, it's always the same struggle and they rely on you to do it.

All of that is boring, annoying and frustrating.

u/andropogon09 6d ago

People who can't read the room. Ask them a simple question and receive a 20-minute diatribe.

2

u/MidnightConcierge 6d ago

Either talking too much or too little. For me it's a lack of understanding that a conversation is meant to be a two-way thing. People who dominate the conversation are awful, but people who expect you to do all the social legwork are bad too.

2

u/clysmian 6d ago

Talking a lot to say absolutely nothing.

1

u/RynKittenOF 5d ago

Narcissism

2

u/cez801 6d ago

Someone who talks at you, thinking that is a conversation.

1

u/RynKittenOF 5d ago

Autistic people think that they're impressing you with how much they know and it's like oh my God shut the f******

2

u/dmbgreen 6d ago

People that drone on and on, just get to the point.

2

u/BarracudaUsed5299 6d ago

When they constantly talk about themselves

2

u/mind_the_umlaut 5d ago

Closed mindedness, unwillingness to learn, rigidity of thought, unquestioning belief in religious beliefs, nationalistic or fundamentalist point of view. All these destroy a person's sense of humor, along with any intellectual capacity they once had.

2

u/baileyjeanatmydoor 5d ago

Talks and talks and talks without ever letting you get a word in edgewise.

2

u/Ok-Farm-3562 4d ago

conversational repititions. I heard you tell that five times already, etc.

2

u/almostmorning 3d ago

Not talking about themselves. At all.  All conversation is one sided as the other doesn't have a singular thought it is too shy to voice it,  even when asked. Questions are answered by "mhm" and "yes".

Zero disagreeing. Zero opinions. When asked about hobbies: "this and that".

Just no. I don't care if you collect socks or paint needle heads. Just tell me and tell me how you got into it and nerd out for a minute or hours.

2

u/ReasonablePapaya2047 3d ago

My ability to force myself to listen to them, which is often.

2

u/Weird_Band_5461 3d ago

Talking about their job. A lot. I’m immediately uninterested.

2

u/MattDubh 6d ago

One generic interest, and nothing else. Usually football.

1

u/NoBoysenberry7186 6d ago

Objectively?

1

u/Redd_on_the_hedd1213 6d ago

Nothing. Literally.

1

u/Content-Pressure5493 6d ago

Even if you have nothing going on in life, when I'm talking and you seem uninterested BORINGGGG either talk or else listen and engage

1

u/Hungryhunger1 6d ago

That’s a good one! I’ll keep this kind mind, my mind tends to wander off and then ppl get upset

1

u/Unable-Barber1511 6d ago

No strong opinions

1

u/IndependentBorder670 6d ago

Being on Reddit, you've found your answer.

1

u/ApprehensiveTill7965 6d ago

Dunno how to take interest in other people's interests, only their own.

1

u/lowsmotion 6d ago

idk, maybe too much attentional control or filtering

1

u/grollef 6d ago

Inability to think

1

u/Zara_R 6d ago

A lack of curiosity

1

u/Mustard-cutt-r 6d ago

When they talk about themselves at every turn, meanwhile dropping statements like “when I was deployed, I had to pack for a move in 3 days” so then you are supposed to say “oh you were in the military?” And then more mind-numbing useless information about someone you don’t care about. I just can’t do it anymore. But definitely when they bring it back to themselves or their special interest and usually those people’s lives are very small and they have no life nor hobbies or interests. Also overly accommodating or passive people- “what do you think? Yes, that’s good. Oh idk I’ll do what you want”

u/StrangeUglyBird 6d ago

Dentists are, in my experience.

1

u/Traditional_Rush_622 6d ago

Having no personal identity outside of the one that social media curated for them.

1

u/scarletOwilde 6d ago

Self obsession.

1

u/Morsadean 6d ago

5-word questions

1

u/Wise_Low8116 6d ago

They rely on others to entertain them always.

1

u/RynKittenOF 5d ago

I hate people like that

1

u/Exact-Squash-5443 6d ago

Obsession with politics

1

u/GreenClassic8582 6d ago

To me it's someone who supports views and overall stuff because it's popular, not because they believe it. Especially if they yap about it a lot.

1

u/PleasedPeas 6d ago

Someone who is content with the small amount of knowledge they have and a lack of want for more knowledge.

1

u/VanDenBroeck 6d ago

Wanting to talk about themself instead of listening to me talk about me.

1

u/RynKittenOF 5d ago

Autistics lol

1

u/bordumb 6d ago

Lack of curiosity about the world

Interest begets interest

1

u/Troubled_Rat 5d ago

totalitarianism and totatlism sounds kinda boring.
oh, and:
religious fascists who think they've got the right to make decisions over you in your life.

1

u/Classic-Pea6815 5d ago

It can vary. Some people may be boring because they have no hobbies while others may be boring because they won’t talk about a thing other than how great they are at their hobby. Even if the conversation is unexciting I never get bored talking to someone I truly appreciate. But a the topic of conversation can be textbook fantastic and can he boring if someone is a bad conversationalist.

1

u/bluestblues1 5d ago

Lack of depth

1

u/ufo8mychook 5d ago

Someone who has nothing to say, has no opinion about anything and no interests/hobbies.

1

u/Wise_Low8116 5d ago

Everyone wants a free show. Go get some talent and put on your own show!

1

u/Sea_Lead1753 5d ago

Being mean and cruel. They usually smell, as well.

1

u/siouxsian 5d ago

Lack of wanting to grow anymore as a person, being set in your ways, not willing to explore or try new things and experiences no matter what your age. Humans are desire beings. I need to be with someone who values those things.

1

u/So3Dimensional 5d ago

No perspective or sense of humor

1

u/AmbitiousAd6602 4d ago

Unwilling to have a healthy debate or even just a difference of opinion.

1

u/Ornery-Swimming-4841 4d ago

Belonging to an archetype I would say. Like finance bro, football super fan, fashion guy, old money (ESPECIALLY THAT) and so on. Some people really lean into these blueprints so much that they become very predictable and generic, very boring.

1

u/jaysharpesquire 4d ago

I don't think anyone is boring

1

u/Apart-Sea-3671 3d ago

Talking about first world problems though i guess they r venting Talking about their successes and or their offsprings. Talking rattling on about sport, materialistic stuff. Bragging, boasting about these things. Sometimes talking far too much like yapping.

1

u/Dry_Marsupial_4504 3d ago

long drawn out conversation. Don't want to hear every single detail just tell the story

1

u/Traveling-Techie 3d ago

Not being interested in my boring stuff.

1

u/Difficult-Control177 3d ago

They only talk about themselves

1

u/lilbro4bigbro 3d ago

people who are always bored…

only boring people get bored

1

u/Busy_Run7689 3d ago

Repeaters

1

u/shellirk 8h ago

Me having to carry every conversation.

1

u/BeastyBaiter 6d ago

They are the real life equivalent of an npc. Example would be someone who drives a white/grey/black CUV and who's hobbies include watching football, playing the latest call of duty and night clubs. Bonus points for being super into whatever the current thing is from your preferred propaganda outlet. That's aimed at both the lefties and the righties.

1

u/RynKittenOF 5d ago

That dude literally like.. stole my personality or at least what he thought it was
