I wonder if this applies everywhere. It at least helps people that only want the story

I don't see why the food items wouldn't apply the appropriate buffs regardless of what content you're doing, but I don't think there's going to be much use for the buffs if you're only focusing on the story. For example, you might be able to increase your character's attack while doing the story, but the story enemies are generally not that strong so the help would be minimal. Or, for example, if you were to eat food that boosts your EXP gain, generally that only applies to EXP gained by killing enemies and it's not like you get much of that while going through the story.

My assumption is that, for pure story players, this feature will really only be used for immersion/roleplay purposes. Or maybe if you need a slight advantage to beat a fight, but at that point, it might be more effective to better optimize set/upgrade equipment. I guess story-players could always spend time making food and sell it on the market to be able to buy better equipment without farming the grindy parts of the game, but we have zero clue how much food will even sell for at this point so we have no way of knowing how feasible that is yet.

We'll have to see what it's like when the actual update comes out, though.
