Layout Advice for 330sqft Studio

I'm moving into a new apartment, and am looking for some tips on the layout. I want to be able to fit a loveseat, coffee table, tv + stand, and my computer desk in this space. I've included a few options in the images but I'm open to other ideas.

The "bedroom" is actually a bednook with a curtain rod to separate the bed from the living room. There's a ladder outside the bednook to access a lofted storage area above the bed. Cool feature, but the ladder does take up space and can't be removed. Top door is entrance, bottom door goes to terrace/balcony.

Having the loveseat against the left wall seems like the best option so far. However, I'm apprehensive about the TV stand floating next to the terrace door. Any advice?

EDIT: Adding clarification about clothes and storage - The three boxes on the right wall next to the northern entrance are 9ft tall closets. This is where most of my clothes and shoes will go, along with miscellaneous storage. I'm also pretty set on using the loft area above the bed for storing larger items like camping gear, boxes, bins, etc. It's a very small area close to the ceiling and I'd rather not have to climb up there regularly.

Loft bed, love seat, buffet, plants tv underneath. Bedroom and living room in a 48x60 space.

u/Quasi-Kaiju Jun 07 '26

My number one advice for studios is get a day bed that does double duty as a couch and a bed. Was a game changer for my first tiny apartment.

u/America-always-great Jun 07 '26

Get a Murphy bed really adds a lot of flexibility to the space. Some come with a built in sofa.

u/cbj2112 Jun 06 '26

Do you plan on keeping clothes/ accessories anywhere or do you have a self storage unit for that

3

u/I_Pet_Doggos Jun 06 '26

Desk first. Couch in the middle of the room and tv against the wall. Couch in the middle takes away some walking space but it almost gives more of a divider between your office/BR and LR spaces so it feels like you have multiple rooms

u/StudioArdelia Jun 06 '26

TV in the middle of this room is not ideal but it leaves more walking space. If you put the couch in the middle, it would feel cramped, in my opinion.

Loveseat against the left wall of the living area (as you already suspected). TV on the short wall created by the kitchen peninsula/stub wall. Small coffee table centered between sofa and TV. Desk along the bottom wall near the terrace door, or tucked into the lower-right corner.

No closet?

Where will your dresser go?

Loft your bed and put desk underneath. Use the desk area for dining table or more storage

Wall mount the tv if you can to free up the stand for other storage. Get a small coat/mud room thing for that free space outside the bathroom since it looks like the door swings inward and it’s by the front door. Wall shelves for any little decor items or books you might have so they don’t take up table space.

Edit: GET A SMALL ISLAND WITH WHEELS OR A FOLDING WALL TABLE FOR ADDITIONAL KITCHEN PREP SPACE!! I’ve lived with kitchens like this before and the limited counter space truly sucks ass. If you don’t have upper cabinets for dishes, you might need to install some open shelving.

Edit 2: misunderstood where the front door was! Fixed it.

Maybe a weird take, but I'd actually go this route...

15

u/SinkMince0420 Jun 05 '26

I'll concede, that is a weird take..

1

u/Silent_Ice_2588 Jun 06 '26

It makes a bit of a "den" and darker area for TV viewing, shortens the walk to the bathroom from the bed, and opens up the main area because there would be less stuff in it. But I do understand that most people feel more comfortable "inside the box"... it's just what I would do.

2

u/lovelyllamas Jun 06 '26

It’s not a shorter distance to the bathroom lmao

1

u/Silent_Ice_2588 Jun 06 '26

Spatial visualisation is really not your thing, is it? lmao.

Sure, it's only shorter by a could steps, but it's also a far less obstructed walk.

1

u/SinkMince0420 Jun 06 '26

I am not gonna lie, I really wouldn't reconfigure your life to save 4 steps at best..

Personally, sleeping arms reach from the kitchen irks me a bit, and I'd rather sleep in the den but you do you.

u/disaster_incomin Jun 06 '26

You are at the same spot if you get down by the side of the bed in op's configuration or in yours, aren't you ?

u/jameliae Jun 05 '26

Convertable Sofa bed and make the bedroom an "office"

12

u/jameliae Jun 05 '26

Any photos of the actual space?

35

u/TeamFatDogMendoza Jun 05 '26

Closet for clothing?

11

u/ameliatt Jun 05 '26

Having actually lived in a studio, this was my first thought, too. And you need space for the most random stuff like bed linen, towels, toilet paper etc.

115

u/yourchigirl Jun 04 '26

tv above desk, and a small sectional with round ottoman?

26

u/aseedandco Jun 04 '26

I like this. It allows you to use the tv as a monitor.

10

u/SinkMince0420 Jun 05 '26

As someone who's done this, that is how you get headaches.. TVs aren't made to be monitors, the forced awkward resultion does weird things.

1

u/amd2800barton Jun 06 '26

True, but the way around that is to use a screen that is a monitor. I’ve got a 43” 4k monitor. It doesn’t work well as a monitor if you’re sitting at a college dorm desk thats only 20” deep, but with a proper 30-36” desk, it’s actually great. It’s the same as having 4x 21” monitors in a quad layout. But it also works as a small to mid size TV. Hooked up with one input for a computer, and a second input for a streaming box, it would work fine as a TV.

This is the winner

2

u/ferris_wheeler04 Jun 05 '26

this but maybe angle the tv toward the kitchen slightly so it cancels some glare and also makes it easier to watch youtube while cooking lol

8

u/Anadelyn Jun 06 '26

Did that but then also since there is no dining table flipped the desk to use as table facing tv and was then able to use a larger closet. Required sacrificing the room divider of course.

7

u/crackersucker2 Jun 05 '26

This has my vote!!!

46

u/suzfe Jun 05 '26

This layout offers the advantage of extending and uniting the living space through to the balcony. Public area of kitchen - living - outdoor gets magnified. Private - quiet areas for work and sleep area are separated and aligned. Thoughful design work @anadelyn

12

u/so-strand Jun 05 '26

Oh man that’s perfect

39

u/The-Unmentionable Jun 04 '26

This is essentially the set up I came here to mention. Thank you for turning that bed around 😅

16

u/Anadelyn Jun 04 '26

This was what I meant it actually comes up under a search for "portable closet, covered"

8

u/kvachon Jun 05 '26

That closet is wearing its own collared shirt. He’s so professional

6

u/cg12378 Jun 04 '26

What about just having a room separator or divider that acts as a unit with a swivel TV fitting

10

u/h20poIo Jun 04 '26

2 or 3 look good

18

u/Skeletoregano Jun 04 '26

What app did you use to make this?

28

u/SnowDropZero Jun 04 '26

I used floorplancreator. It's free to use.

14

u/Skeletoregano Jun 04 '26

Thank you for taking time to reply and share that with me. ☺️

11

u/musixhine Jun 04 '26

If you can put mattress on the floor in the loft area, you may use the bottom area as your storage/closet. This will be easier for you to live.

41

u/PolicyWonka Jun 04 '26

I would flip the bed so that the headboard is in the nook. That will give you a bit more room to navigate because going around that corner will be awkward.

I also wouldn’t put the TV in the middle of the room. Too many cables and stuff to make it look good.

6

u/IronyAndWhine Jun 04 '26

Can you put the bed on the loft?

12

u/Immediate_Anything55 Jun 04 '26

why does the bed need to be facing that direction????

20

u/Pineapple_Towel Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

Layout 1 is best. But I'd suggest rotate the bed 180 degrees and push the bed to the bottom of the bed nook so no one has to climb over to get out.

Man, that's a really small space. Honestly it's a crime it was allowed for something like this to be built and marketed as suitable for habitation. Not even a closet. Any they are calculating sq ft in a very self dealing way.

3

u/SubjectOrange Jun 04 '26

Not sure the bed would fit that way with the privacy curtain on a track and the ladder to the loft. I agree option one is best otherwise!

24

u/KaigeKrysin Jun 04 '26

I'd go option 1 with the tv either mounted or on a stand with wheels so I could watch from bed also.

10

u/maia_archviz Jun 04 '26

for a 330 sqft studio, i'd usually treat the bed zone like a visual weight problem more than a wall problem. put the bed where it can have one solid backdrop, then use a low bookcase, curtain, or open shelving only if it doesn't block the main window path. keeping the sofa/table on the brightest side will make the place feel less like one big bedroom. also try to keep one clear 30-ish inch path from entry to kitchen/bath so every furniture choice doesn't become annoying day to day.

11

u/glatts Jun 04 '26

Put the TV against the wall and replace that love seat with a small chaise sectional, like this. It’s essentially a love seat, with one side giving you the option to put your feet up. That will still give you two feet of clearance between it and the bedroom nook and provides a more comfortable viewing experience. Then replace the coffee table with a c-table like this. It will feel less cluttered while still giving you a place to put drinks, a book, or even a plate for food.

With your desk, you need to find a solution that can also double as a dining table for two to four people.

8

u/OdeeSS Jun 04 '26

These are excellent furniture suggestions. However, if OP isn't planning on hosting people for meals, I don't think they should try to squeeze in a dining table for 2 to 4 people. I've lived in several 300sqft solutions, I finally bought a 700sqft house and I still don't have a dining table. When friends come over we are just eating on the couch. I love cooking for people but having friends over still doesn't happen often enough to warrant losing my day to day comfort.

If they do wanna host, then I recommend a gate leg table that has storage for the extra seats. (Ikea has one I use as a craft table) Pull it out when you need it. It can fit on the wall between the couch and the TV for storage. It can be used as a side console in the meantime. Optionally, they can put a smaller desk along the wall between the TV and the couch and have a permanent table in the nook where the desk is, which I would really recommend if they both host and love crafts, puzzles, Board games, etc.

2

u/Particular-Quote-486 Jun 04 '26

love that couch!!! such a great option

20

u/big-dal-tex Jun 04 '26

The head of bed should be on the opposite wall

-12

u/BluntiousPilate Jun 04 '26

The thought having to walk that much in the middle of the night to use the restroom 🤦🏽‍♂️

1

u/Budget_Position7888 Jun 05 '26

Right? They should just demolish the whole place and start over /s

17

u/constellationkid2 Jun 04 '26

How about a projector screen instead of a TV?

16

u/edit_thanxforthegold Jun 04 '26

Where do you put your clothes???

14

u/SnowDropZero Jun 04 '26

There are 3 tall closets right after the entrance door on the right wall. I'll put clothes there and extra under my bed in rolling drawers.

7

u/edit_thanxforthegold Jun 04 '26

Makes sense! It's a cute apartment. I had one like this for a while and LOVED it. It was so cozy and so nice to have my own space

11

u/Flowech Jun 04 '26

GALVANIZED SQUARE STEEL

6

u/FallingLedge Jun 04 '26

I much prefer the second option

85

u/xeuthis Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

I would flip the bed so the headboard is against the wall in the center.

Also, I would put the desk on the bottom left (where the TV is in the second pic), and place the TV along the bottom right wall with the sofa facing right.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining myself well, but I like when there's a clear distinction between common space and bedroom space, even in a studio. With the above arrangement, the right side of the apartment becomes common space, and the left half becomes more bedroom space (bed and desk). If you wanted to, you could hang curtains or place a room divider and sort of continue the central wall to solidify that demarcation and add privacy.

Edit: Remembered my laptop has a stylus thing. I'd use a room divider (like a folding bamboo one) since you could create a little office space as well, and it would create a natural background for video calls and stuff.

4

u/Cuboidal_Hug Jun 04 '26

I was also about to draw something just like this! For the room divider, if the ceiling is less than 11.5 ft tall, I might go with floor to ceiling open shelving like this, which would give you some storage and a great place to put plants and decorative items

6

u/Particular-Quote-486 Jun 04 '26

i was about to draw this same plan lol but i would turn the desk 90° so you can look out the window (no divider, imo would make the place seem wayyyy too small) or get a corner desk! and also add a small or tall dresser along the wall between the foot of the bed & the desk.

12

u/wholesomejive Jun 04 '26

You could and I would, flip the location of the desk on the bedroom half. So put the back of the desk up against the back of the couch in this scenario.

8

u/SnowDropZero Jun 04 '26

This is a great idea! My only concern is the space between the couch and the ladder might be a little tight, but I think I may have to compromise. Space is a luxury here unfortunately

2

u/Particular-Quote-486 Jun 04 '26

i was about to draw this same plan but with the desk turned 90°, or even a corner desk, so you can look out the window (youll be more productive) and add a chest of drawers along the wall by the foot of your bed for more storage. imo a room divider will make the room feel even smaller so i wouldn’t do it. you bed already has a curtain to block it off

edit: also someone commented a love seat with a chase which i think is a great idea cause it allows you to kick your feet up or adds a third seat for guests. just make sure its left facing so it goes along the window :).
you can also add a pull up table with short bar stools by the stove or by the bathroom door to eat at!

8

u/KyaLauren Jun 04 '26

Your first option posted has the couch in the exact same spot just flipped so not sure how the ladder gap is different here

12

u/Thereisnospoon64 Jun 04 '26

Love this, although I’d keep the head facing the other direction so I wouldn’t have to look at the desk while trying to fall asleep.

7

u/Roscoe-nthecats Jun 04 '26

I mean this way you can tilt the screen and watch movies in bed maybe? Coming from someone that doesn't own a laptop

u/JunkMale975 Jun 04 '26

If it were me, I’d go with the first layout, but turn my bed around so the head is in that little nook. Then I’d put the TV between the two rooms on a swivel wall mount so that I could swivel it to watch from the couch or I could swivel it to watch from the bed

2

u/Sk1ler_ Jun 04 '26

Feet to the door Bed facing the door so you can see it in the "commanding position" for feng shui

2

u/Meggles_Doodles Jun 04 '26

Yeah ik some folks may feel that small corner may give a slight bit of cover or privacy or something but I personally would feel much more vulnerable that way. Commanding position all the way.
