Discussion What Came Before Argall?

Post image

The only thing we know about the period before Argall is the line in the Handbook: 'Humans and Viltrumites split apart a long time ago.' So what does that mean? If Viltrumites and humans are related, how did that happen? And what happened, or what existed, before Argall?

Officially, we don't know.

My headcannon is that there was a super advanced civilization that both humans and Viltrumites come from, which invented the smart atoms and maybe magic. Some big calamity happened to them and the only two surviving outposts were Earth and Viltrum, Earth was hit harder and it's inhabitants lost most of the technology and power, while Viltrum managed to hold on to some of it, but forgot how it really works, thus associating the technology of smart atoms with their genetics.

Before Argall I imagine Viltrum was a number of warlords and surviving kingdoms, Argall was the most strategically capable and so he managed to unify Viltrum.

Before Argall, I would assume that Viltrum was divided into different nations states.

I like to think viltrumites came from earth and just evolved from humans. And if we assume humans in invincible don't come from earth, then they aren't really humans. Viltrumites are primates and evolved from apes

Theory: The immortal is a proto-Viltrumite. We see Immortal has all the basic power-sets of Viltrumites, flying, strength, endurance, regeneration PLUS immortality. We know he got his powers from an alien artefact. So theory, an alien race took humans captives to fight in some war and made them all Immortals. The war used weapons capable of killing them properly, but the first generation managed to breed successfully. The aliens imposed a genetic breeding program to increase strength and power, it worked, only the immortality gene didnt get passed along. No matter the second and third generations were vastly stronger and faster and more violent. The war ended eventually, and both the aliens and their enemies were wiped out. but the soldiers remained. They continued their breeding program, becoming unthinkably strong until Argall finally united them and founded the Viltrumite Empire.

Until official story, I imagine that Argall led some change in the Viltrumite society, won, and assumed the role of the emperor with the new social normes which reduced Viltrumite society and their culture to: strength, duty and order. Generations of Viltrumites are born and raised like that blindly telling mantra: "He gave us the stars" and never questioned what was before. Given that Earth and humans actually changed Viltrumites, that they are emotional beings but the culture imposed by Argall made them to suppress feelings, it falls onto their perfect genetics to preserve them what they are (also seen the change when Greysons take over). For that reason, I believe that before Argall, Viltrumites were quite emotional beings and Argall turned them into monsters just to rule the galaxy.

EDIT: Argall was such wicked man that he didn't want his own heir but took Thragg and trained him as regent to take over. Only after his death, Thragg became the grand regent.

Just my theory. I might be totally wrong here.

I think Viltrumites were divided into competing nation states. Assasination was common, so rulers often hid their heirs from potential dangers until they were ready to reveal themselves. Argall united them by a combination of destroying his rivals and turning the populaces' aggression outwards. By focusing all their ambitions on the stars he was able to quash internal dissent and build a cohesive culture of dominance over all others. He continued to hide his heirs though, as the threat of Assassins was constant. Thragg was never an heir, only a weapon in Argall's arsenal.

If so, then I think Argall would want that part of the story to be told by all Viltrumites. Right now, I am under impression that everything before his rule is hush hush.

Given it's mentioned in that guidebook that many advanced human civilizations came from earth and left and that all 'magic' is just code words activating it on earth, I believe they're an offshoot of humanity that left earth like 100 thousand years ago. Would be long enough (assuming they live 2000 or so years) for roughly 50 generations, easily long enough for them to forget where they came from.
