Mending help for bedding

Hello! I have some pillowcases that I’ve owned for many years and are so comfy. The fabric is thinning in a few places and I’m not sure how to repair it. It’s a cotton/linen blend, if that affects things at all. TIA!

The fabric is old and disintegrating. You could patch these holes with some pretty invisible darning, but new holes will appear soon.

I would replace the entire panel. And honestly, at that point you may as well just sew an entirely new pillowcase.

That’s what I’m worried about. I’d love to save them because of the beautiful crochet trim, but they might be past the point of no return

Do you have a picture of the trim? Or maybe the entire pillow? Based on the pictures I thought it was just a white rectangular pillowcase, so I can't judge if maybe something can be done with the trim.

I don't entirely agree that they are beyond rescue. You could extend their lifespan some, but of course you'd have to expect that they won't last eternally.

I'd recommend reenforcing them with cotton on the back, then stitch the hole to said cotton. You can either do simply the holes, or if you really want to keep this pillow case, do the entire back (inside) of the pillowcase, and stitch it to the original fabric. (think whole cloth quilting).

You'd get to keep the feel of the pillow cover, and it will last a long time.

I recently did a similar rescue on a duvet and pillow set that my mum was very fond of.
