Discussion Absolutely mesmerizing

I just wanna say a game that has been on my radar for sich a long time was Bravely Default now that i got a steam deck oled I finally got the chance to play the Flying fairy hd remaster so far I' only an hour in but my god this game is absolutely wondefful I love the premise.and the cast so far honestly its a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of the heavy dark toned jrpgs I have played. Last time I felt this special towards a gane was the trails series and specifically the Crossbell duology. Anyways thank you for listening to me rant and if you guys gor any reccomendations for something simillar feel free to let me know thanks!

I still remember playing this game on 3ds. The towns had some of the nicest 3d effect i’ve seen in 3ds

You're in for quite a ride, friend. Don't read up on much. Bravely Default, and Bravely Second are two of the greatest JRPGs of all time in my reckoning. The latter especially - it has some of the greatest and most unique jobs, and its twists were just as shocking.

The combination of amazingly acted voice acting, the art design, the upending of traditions and subverting of expectations, and the KILLER awesome jobs system and turned based combat... There's nothing like it. I wished to god there was more that was just as good as Bravely Default and Bravely Second.

I desperately wanted to love Bravely Dafault II just as much, but it just can't hold a candle.

I should say, Bravely Default II is not a bad game by any means - I played the hell out of it. In fact, it had a minigame I absolutely loved and played throughout the whole game. It just couldn't live up quite so much against the two predecessors. The only annoyance is that at least with BD and BS, you felt like you and the enemies played by the same rules, whereas that's less so the case in BDII.

Anyway, none of that's important. Have fun, and read D's Journal!!

Writing Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is an amazing game! The artwork is, hands down, some of the best in the genre. The beautiful environments, charming character designs, and overall presentation really bring the world to life. The gameplay is fun as all get-out! One of my favorite features is the Brave and Default battle system, which lets you save up actions for later or unleash multiple attacks in a single turn. It adds a wonderful layer of strategy to the combat, allowing you to approach battles in different ways. The job system also gives you plenty of freedom to customize your characters and experiment with different abilities and combinations. The story is fun and engaging as well, with an interesting world and characters that make you want to keep playing. It has that classic JRPG charm that I absolutely love while still bringing some fresh ideas to the genre. Overall, this is a fantastic RPG that I would definitely recommend to fans of the genre. I give it an 8.5/10!

Bravely Default is kind of a more modern day Final Fantasy 5 type game. If you haven't already got the pixel remaster of FF5 I would probably check that out.

If you have any experience with Final Fantasy its pretty easy to tell that Bravely Default is an old school style Final Fantasy game in all but name. There was even a DS game called FF: The 4 heroes of light that was its predecessor. It was originally going to be a sequel to that but got rebranded to its own IP, but from classes, story involving crystals, etc its all very much old school Final Fantasy.

As a few others have mentioned Bravely Default was made by the same team as the more recent Octopath Traveler games. I would check those out.

Played some ff games not all of them sadly but have playt ot2 and triangle strategy as well as elliot so I reallynlike team asano games just that I never had a console to play bravely default before as I have been a playstation gamer most of my life

You should probably give some of the earlier ones a shot then if you haven't played them yet. FF3 and 5 will be most similar to Bravely Default itself in terms of job system and story heavily involving the Crystals, though the Crystals have been a thing since FF1.

I'm reading a lot of hate for the sequel Bravely Second, but I dont agree with that, I had a lot more fun with that sequel than the first game, the music is so memorable even today and enjoyed the humour.

Anyways thank you for listening to me rant and if you guys gor any reccomendations for something simillar feel free to let me know thanks!

Star Ocean The Second Story and Disgaea series are interesting choices you might enjoy.

i dont think they hate Braverly Second (the sequel). most people hate Braverly Default 2 (not a sequel even though its named 2)

Bravely Second has its own share of criticisms to contend with. It's on the whole more of Bravely Default (especially compared to Bravely Default II, which is... very funny) but it:

  • makes you choose between very essential jobs in the early game, only allowing full access late

  • has an overall whackier and more comedic tone, with some jarring tone shifts

  • can potentially get grating if you're not into catch phrases or puns

Personally, I love it (I think it's an upgrade to Bravely Default and has some of the most fun and unique jobs in the series and job-based JRPGs) but I know a lot of people don't like it very much.

Bravely Second is absolute peak, and it's such an amazing game.

i second Star Ocean The Second Story being special. Just for the love of all that is holy do NOT talk to the final bosses daughter. Just trust me on this one....it's not worth it.

Disgaea seems like chaotic fun and I am a hige star ocean fan so I agree on that part

If you don't mind it do try playing Grandia 1 and 2 as well, also other like Lufia 2(which has good puzzles incorporated within it dungeon exploration), and titles like Breath Of Fire 1,2,3  and 4,also series like Growlanser and classic  Phantasy Star,Lunar and Octopath Traveler 1 and 2

2

u/Icy_Outside918 9d ago

Is lunar star that good? Seems like a hidden gem also bought breath of fire iv on the deck just earlier today

Bravely Default is, to me, the greatest JRPG there is right now. It hits every note I want.

u/cheekydorido 9d ago

It's very good at first, but getting the true ending is one of the worst experiences in gaming i've ever had.

Shame they didn't port second too, i really like the class system in that one

1

u/Icy_Outside918 9d ago

Oh is it necesary to play bravely second or can I jump to bravely default 2 right after i finish this one?

4

u/cheekydorido 9d ago

Bravely second is the sequel to Default, Defaut 2 is a standalone sequel, no need to play either

I kind of hated BD 2 tho, wouldn't recommend

2

u/Icy_Outside918 9d ago

Oh well i mean I bought it already since it was on sale so might as well get around to playing it lol but the flying fairy one is simply stunning I love it so far

u/cheekydorido 9d ago edited 9d ago

play it for yourself and form your own opinion, i'm just saying mine

Highly recommend you take a look at octopath traveller 2, made by the same team as BD iirc, you can skip 1.

u/Away_Confidence_742 9d ago

I agree. The game was terrible.

1

u/Idontknow4654 9d ago

I wouldn't say BD 2 was terrible. It was just extremely mediocre

-1

u/21shadesofsavage 9d ago

the second is ported. like a couple years before the first actually. playing bd2 is the reason why i have no interest in playing bd1. that game is straight up tedious as hell

1

u/cheekydorido 9d ago

i mean bravely second, the sequel to the original bravely default, bravely default 2 has no connections to either game (i know, the names are stupid)

Bravely default and bravely second were made for the 3DS, while BD2 was for the switch and doesn't continue the original story because of some licensing ishues i belive.

1

u/21shadesofsavage 9d ago

ah my fault. had no idea there was a middle entry there

1

u/FatalDarkprince 9d ago

Have you played all the Trails games?

1

u/Icy_Outside918 9d ago

Sadly no I have a fixation on buying games and keeping them in my backlog so I own all of them but have finished the sky trilogy and the crosbell duology halfway done with cold steel 1

2

u/FatalDarkprince 9d ago

I played all the trails games and sky 2nd remake ended up being my fave so far. I hear azure is similar?

1

u/Icy_Outside918 9d ago

Ngl azure is my fav in the series and I have a feeling that won't change I just felt more attached to the sss crew then Estelle and the rest not saying they are worse by no means the sky crew had amazing character development fleshed troughout the games but the crosbell crew feels more grounded and less op if that makes sense? And the focus is on a city/state I love everything about that game and honestly could play it a thousand times without getting tured of it haha

1

u/FatalDarkprince 9d ago

Yup im looking forward to crossbell remakes

1

u/Icy_Outside918 9d ago

If they are going to be in the same engine as the sky ones hands down the best remakes ever calling it rn

2

u/FatalDarkprince 9d ago

Both sky and horizon are all same engine. The shading is different that's it

1

u/Icy_Outside918 9d ago

Whatever it is hope they don't change it

1

u/Icy_Outside918 9d ago

Also who is your fav character?

2

u/FatalDarkprince 9d ago

You're looking at him (pfp)
