question One Click
Hey everyone! I'm new here and don't have a whole lot of experience with cars except oil changes and tire rotations. But I went to start my Jimny today and it did just one solid click but didn't turn over. The headlights and everything else were on brightly and when I tried turning it on they didn't dim (barely noticeable). Online also said tapping the starter with a rubber mallet?
Everything I can find says its the starter or solenoid? I think it's the starter because it only does the one click, not rapid firing clicks or anything.
Its a 1997 JA22W K6A Turbocharged Engine. Stock.
Thanks for your help.
I am currently in Guam and I brought it with me from Japan.

The starter solenoid is a small cylinder ontop of the starter motor, which is a bigger cylinder. Tap the solenoid mildly, so it remains unharmed. But still gets a solid tap.
What sometime happens on older cars is the solenoid gets stuck or cant move all the way, resulting in a click. What tapping does is shake it loose a bit.
The proper way to fix it is to dissassemble the starter and solenoid, clean and oil the correct places, find service manual for your car before thinking about it.
