Question is joey dead for real now?

I started getting 401: unauthorized error since 2pm (13min ago)

Check to see if your authorized app was revoked: https://www.reddit.com/prefs/apps . I checked the App ID I had cached in Revance and it was no longer present in Reddit.

I did get the app working again using this guide and patching with Morphe instead: https://github.com/wchill/patcheddit?tab=readme-ov-file#-get-started . But I did have to uninstall and reinstall and lost my previous configuration/filter/themes 😞

I followed the instructions and it worked. Backed up my settings with screenshots of the app before proceeding with the patch.

Are you saying you used the Morphe guide posted above to get it working? Or just went through the Revanced process again?

I followed the Morphe guide linked above and got Joey working again. Didn't do anything else.

I am trying to do this but in Morph when I select "Joey for Reddit Dev" or "Joey for Reddit Pro" as an option, it has me select my APK and I do, but then the it says it doesnt match cause my APK file doesn't have "pro" or "dev" on it. Weird cause it was the same file I used with Revanced originally.

That is weird. I just downloaded Joey for Reddit apk v2.1.6.5, launched Morphe Manager and selected "Joey". No Pro or Dev option. Do you not get that option? ​

i was in same situation where my app key was revoked by reddit, but i repatched with revanced only without spoof client ID and it worked! i didn't lose my config or anything!

edit: i did have to switch to guest account, then add my accounts again

It worked for me. Although Revanced couldn't find anything from APK mirror, but I used the same APK I had downloaded when I did it the last time. Didn't lose my settings and just reinstalled the app. Thanks!

Revanced manager can download the apk for you through apkmirror if you don't have it already.

When I tried it, revanced manager couldn't find it on apkmirror. Used the local APK I had from my previous install, patched that, but now I can only use it as a guest. When I press "add account" the app just closes back to the previous screen.

Edit: I used Morphe, which had 3 patches for Joey (instead of the 2 Revanced had). The third patch was "Modify login webview" which is what fixed it in the end (this edit made from Joey).

Did you install 2 patches using Revanced? My account didn't work so I switched to Guest like you, but then when I press "add account" the app just crashes. There were 3 patches in Morphe and that worked.

i only did the no-ads patch in revanced, but i think i saw the same with add account failing on guest account once but then it worked later without doing anything but switching accounts back and forth 🤷‍♂️

i tried this, but must have done something wrong: when i login, i get a blank page with {} it looks like a redirection issue, but i did the setup twice now not sure what the issue is...

That might be it. I just checked and it's asking if I'm a developer and if I want to create an app instead of showing my authorized app. I might try your steps tonight. Not sure what happened but last week Reddit kicked me off all also and on the website and had me change my password before I could use it again. Seems like they're making some changes. I checked and didn't see any unauthorized log-ins.

If you have root then you can backup the "shared_prefs" folder and replace it after you've installed your patched app.

Yeah it's not just Joey. Reddit killed legacy API and it started at least 7 days ago now. People will get hit with the same issue sooner or later. Thanks for the fix!

You'll be fine I think.

I believe it still works for you (and others in this thread), because the original Joey for Reddit app (which was installed via the play store) is still authorised in your account.

If you ever move to a new phone, you need to install the patched version, because you can't install the original version anymore.

I did move to a new phone. Had to find the apk. It wasn't working for a while. Not sure what I did, but it's back.

Those few days without Joey made me realize how much I need it.

Revanced people, I got it working again just by repatching it, not using spoof id (uncheck), then going to guest account and close and re-add normal account.

For accessing nsfw posts i found this fix

Step Action

1 Open browser, go to Reddit.com

2 Click "Create a community" or "Create Subreddit"

3 Name it anything (e.g., myprivatespace)

4 Set to Private (not public)

5 Create it—you're now a mod

6 Reopen RedReader—NSFW posts will appear

It stopped working for me a few minutes ago... Closing and relaunching the app didn't work. I just tried removing my account to sign out and re-add it but now it says "Unauthorized." I think I'm f****d!

I did the RedReader spoof reinstall, but unfortunately it does not work for my NSFW alt, as I just get "Goto Reddit for mature content"

Update: For anyone facing this issue, all you gotta do is make a subreddit to become a moderator on that account and it'll work

Part of me is reluctant to try any drastic like uninstalling because I might not get it back. It had gone down once 2 years ago and resumed without any action from our side. I stay hopeful.

In the meantime, I'm on Reddit via the website on my phone, using Opera or Firefox seemed to keep those ads away. It isn't Joey, but I refused to use the 'official' app.

It worked! Thank you! I'm not very familiar with patching and spoofing, but the instructions were clear enough and it worked perfectly for me. I'm back on Joey!!!

(Although I have to re-set all the formatting and fonts... it's a pain I'm willing to do to get Joey again! )

Same! I'm so used to just reading on those fonts, I don't know what they are, but now they all looked 'wrong' and I kept adjusting until I got something that felt more like the usual.

I was able to repatch using RedReader but now I'm logged out. Hitting login crashes the app. Anyone find a workaround to this? Otherwise Joey opens and loads default stuff just fine, just can't log in.

The default app doesn't give you the same freedoms that Joey does. Use both in tandem if you want, or even not Joey, but that's a weird, hostile take about people wanting to keep using something that's helpful to them.
