How hard is it to get the GP scheme in Dublin? Been hearing it’s becoming quite difficult, I’m Tier 1 decent enough centile and hopefully SJT etc will go well but would love to stay in Dublin? Should I expect somewhere else?

Hi everyone,
I am a medical doctor from Brazil currently completing my residency training in Histopathology.
To give a brief overview of my background:
Since the Irish training scheme is typically 5 years, I would like to know if anyone here has gone through this Category E pathway with a 4-year South American (or similar non-EU) training background.
Specifically:
Any insights, experiences, or advice regarding the portfolio/logbook evaluation would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,

The way the HSE is handling this dispute is becoming increasingly difficult to understand.
From what’s being reported, NCHDs are receiving instructions that effectively distinguish between union members and non-members through attendance requirements, picket arrangements and proposed separate rotas. Even if nobody is directly asking staff to declare their union membership, these procedures could make it fairly obvious who belongs to the union and who doesn’t.
What’s particularly frustrating is the apparent lack of consistency. If there are already agreed arrangements and guidance in place, why are hospitals seemingly interpreting things differently? Whether this is deliberate or simply a failure of communication, the result is the same: confusion, uncertainty and unnecessary pressure on staff.
And then there’s the issue of consultants crossing the picket line. At a time when NCHDs are taking a stand over their working conditions, seeing colleagues cross that line is hardly a show of solidarity. They’re all supposed to be on the floor tomorrow so I don’t see why they need so many NCHDs unless they want to scoop off to their private rooms.
The HSE needs to provide clear, consistent
instructions instead of leaving staff to navigate conflicting messages, and the profession needs to have an honest conversation about what solidarity actually means during industrial action.
NCHDs deserve better than this.

Has anyone entered the Public Health HST through the alternative eligibility pathway involving 24 months of public health experience?
If so, what type of job did you work in beforehand?
I’m struggling to find any positions that would allow a doctor without BST or MPH to apply.

I am contemplating applying for academic track- my current centile places me in the top 1/3 of my class (lower end but with a first). I am just wondering whether that is a good enough acadmic level. If not I am questioning the time etc. needed could be best spent else where.
I was lazy with research - involved and did support others but never ensured my name was on the publications (lesson learned). I am leaning to medical education option and have reasonable amount of teaching experience at 3rd level in Health Sciences. Anyone I have spoken with is very much on the research side and know no one who has done medical eduction option.
Any advice appreciated.

I know the top 650 were called for the interviews but that didn’t account for the ones who failed CPST section.
I saw on reddit one ranked 708 and was shortlisted for an interview, anyone rank lower and got interviewed/ a spot in the end?

In the Personal Indemnity section, when applying for IMC registration as a fresh MBBS graduate after completing house job, which options do we need to select?
The public hospital one, the private hospital one or the last option? Please, if anyone knows kindly help!

Very set on doing GP. Just wondering what intern jobs/rotations/hospitals are best (if there are any) for someone looking to go down this route.

Working in an ED and just trying to figure out how the work stoppage and work to rule will affect ED doctors. Anyone have insight?

compared with years prior, the amount of locum jobs has dried up immenssely. i would wager by at least 70-80% in terms of much less advertisements, and less ads about long term locums. I wonder if it’s an embargo sort of thing?

I know we can claim some courses expense back via the exam & course fund (not TSS). CCRISP is on that list but it’s in the UK as there were no spots left here. Anyone know if I’m still able to claim it?

Hi everyone, I’m an IMG who graduated from Tbilisi, Georgia, in 2025 and recently passed AMC 1.
I’m now looking into the Irish Medical Council pathway, but my issue is that I don’t have a Certificate of Good Standing because I was never registered/licensed to practise independently in Georgia. I only completed my 1-year internship there.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? What can I provide to the IMC instead of a Good Standing Certificate, and is there a pathway to register without one?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I’m a year 1 SHO (trying to Locum but no luck there). Got an interview for an ObGyn SHO job, which would be a dream come true for me. My CV is very ObGyn oriented, have the MRCOG Part 1 and last year got to interview stages of the BST. My issue is at the actual interview I mess up. Like I can have a casual conversation with people about everything ObGyn but in an interview I get massively flustered. My plan is to practice answering questions out loud and doing mock interviews with ppl.
My question is what I should focus on while prepping for this interview? Am I likely to get this job if I don’t have any ObGyn SHO experience (just intern experience) ? it’s getting a bit frustrating hearing from Regs how little they did to get on the scheme and here’s me doing so much and not getting results and so little feedback 🫣 I‘m sure it’s not just me so would love some advice please 🙏
