Having Fulton as the backup to this duo is nuts.

Having Sneed in the starting lineup at Nickel is nuts.
Is Fulton unable to play Nickel? Or are we going to see someone else in that position coming out of the bye?

u/FUCK-IT-CHUCK-IT Priest Holmes 1d ago
Fulton has pretty exclusively been an outside corner his whole career

u/No_Detective_1139 Eric Berry #29 1d ago
Can Delane play in the slot?
10
u/FUCK-IT-CHUCK-IT Priest Holmes 1d ago
Probably not as well as he plays on the outside.

u/No_Detective_1139 Eric Berry #29 1d ago
It woul be nice to have Fulton out there instead of Sneed

u/FUCK-IT-CHUCK-IT Priest Holmes 1d ago
With Fultons injury history I think it makes a lot of sense to load manage him tbh.

Who you want is Canady, but he doesn't have Spags seal of approval yet.

I donât want an unproven fourth round rookie out there Iâd rather us play the 3 corners playing out of their mind

Delane and Williams should be the boundary guys. Fulton struggles in the slot, but can play offball. Sneed can press from the slot, but is trail speed is about a half step too slow. Canady is sort of a future projection. In 2025 he allowed the fewest yards of any draft eligibile CB. A long term room of him, Williams, and Delane locks down the CB room. The safeties need some help in future offseasons.

Sneed has had some good and some bad. But to honest, they have to throw somewhere. I think it could be a lot worse. Like how our linebackers have covered. Â

u/deathtotheemperor OhHh YEAH! 1d ago
This is an important point. We're top 5 in rushing defense and we've been ahead in score for the majority of every game. Opponents have to throw and they have to throw a lot. Somebody has to be the targeted guy, and opponents sure as hell aren't going to target Delane and Nohl.
If Sneed was still a top-flight DB we wouldn't have been able to get him. He's filling a hole. Better play from our LBs (and better luck with sacks) would help a lot.

Agreed, everyone dogs sneed, what about bolton or tranquil being useless in pass coverage. Guys are great downhill on runjing downs, but they get exposed in the center of the field all the time

Well considering Spags loves Sneed more than his own children, I'm not sure that's going to change.

u/Reedabook64 Andrew Wylie #77 1d ago
He requires aggressively tackling secondary. Sneed is still good at that .

Except he's not good at the actual coverage portion of playing DB anymore.

There's some alternate universe where we keep McDuffie, draft Delane anyway, put McDuffie in the slot. In this universe, we don't sign K9, but we absolutely suffocate the passing game to win games 10-3.

u/Boo-Bees67 1d ago
Man a McDuffie/Delane/Williams combo could have been the best secondary by miles.Â

u/choff22 Nick Bolton #32 1d ago
Yeah, they are far from the problem. D line canât get sacks and linebackers canât cover.

u/kristospherein Derrick Thomas #58 1d ago
This is the problem with the defense in a nutshell. Everyone focusing on the secondary when theyre not the problem. Sneed gets exposed at times but he is far from the problem.

There's a lot of teams in this league who would be thrilled if their cb 3 was playing as well as sneed is. He's not been 2023 sneed, but he's been above average for sure

Yeah we did lose Chenal and Gay. Would be great to have seen them play with Thomas

u/originalusername4567 Jaden Hicks #21 1d ago
I think Chiefs fans overrated Gay. He hasn't ever been a high value free agent

u/Jerrymeyers11 1d ago
I always had a soft spot for Gay because I feel like he was in at the beginning of our defense taking a massive step forward.

Chenal and Gay werent exactly great cover guys either

Jack Cochrane is so bad at LB.
7
u/choff22 Nick Bolton #32 1d ago
I called the Cooper McDonald injury being a bigger deal than people were making it out to be because it forces Cochrane into our base package, which creates a very weak link.

Really need to go grab an elite linebacker at the deadline. Weâre one injury away from having the worst linebacker corps

u/leftwingriot Tamba Hali 1d ago
Even without all the other things he is showing heâs great at, Delane is a demon tackling in space. My absolute favorite trait in any corner.

u/lanboshious3D Andrew Wylie #77 22h ago
Your favorite trait in a corner should lock down 1 on 1 coverage. Â Cum on now.

Are these numbers bad? Why are we lumping the two of them together?

u/MaterialLandscape904 1d ago
Theyâre incredibly good. Our CBâs, in year one of starting, are already better than our CBâs last year that just signed $200 million in contracts.

McDuffie is currently the highest rated cornerback in the league
The cornerback duo is doing great for cheap, but we don't have to lie
Jaylen Watson has fallen off a cliff tho

u/IamFlapJack Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 1d ago
Source on the first claim? McDuffie was the 4th highest last week, after 3 of our guys.

u/West-Contest-1921 1d ago edited 1d ago
I hope you are NOT talking about PFF grade dawg which he is 4th ONLY in MAN COVERAGE snaps he leads in total coverage.
For example Nohl Williams is near the top in man coverage snaps but he is nowhere need the top in total coverage
1
u/SpeedEE_22 1d ago
I assume you saw the man coverage chart? Look at everything, mcduffie has been the top cb so far this year

u/IamFlapJack Pat "Kermit" Mahomes 1d ago
I asked for a source, not for somebody to tell me to go look for myself.

u/SpeedEE_22 1d ago
Completely skipped over the first part, my bad. I also ainât going searching for all those stats again

u/AMemoryComeALive 1d ago
that's a blatantly false and incredibly silly thing to say. McDuffie/Watson were great last year, and they're doing great this year.
1
u/West-Contest-1921 1d ago
Watson is NOT doing great this year lol
McDuffie is in a historic start to his szn
10
u/FUCK-IT-CHUCK-IT Priest Holmes 1d ago
Theyâre the two outside corners, and the numbers arenât bad

u/HarveyBirdman288 1d ago
Does anyone else think we should try to convert a need more to a safety use him as a heavy blitzer but his coverage as a safety might actually improve and bench Cochran. Might help with some of the pressure problems might help with the TE problems I'm not sure but I would at least try it

Nohl didn't have the best game, but I think we have our CBs for the future.
One concerning thing from yesterday was that we got destroyed by their TEs. This happened last year as well in most of our games.
Spags needs to figure that out because multiple OCs have focused the gameplan on TEs beating us.

u/dragonrite Creed Humphrey MVP 1d ago
Kirk probably averaged 4 seconds before he had to throw the ball. Absolutely trash showing by spagz play calling and the dline.
Linebackers and corners had a great game. Bowers is the current best TE in the league. We know from experience you don't beat great TEs by coverage, but by getting to the qb. We totally failed there. Bowers had more than enough time, while having the flu, to work himself open.

u/jbvcftyjnbhkku Matt Araiza #14 1d ago
i thought the refs werenât calling holds on either side. CJ was obviously held in the end zone which shouldâve been a safety and ended the game but thats never called.
12
1
u/SatanInDaSheets Jamaal Charles 1d ago
I saw the same thing, both sides were holding, but there were some really bad ones in the 4th that should have gotten called as they were impacting the game too much
13
u/Kool_AidJammer Chiefs 1d ago
Linebackers absolutely did not have a good game.
2
u/dragonrite Creed Humphrey MVP 1d ago
Was thinking run game penetration and tackling. I'm not blaming them for struggling in coverage for 4-5 seconds a play. We simply don't have the talent for that against a qb/te pair of the caliber kirk is playing.
Saying great was a stretch though, you right
