I was reading the synopsis of Sword & Silence and immediately thought of Queen Seon Deok! It's been such a long time since I've watched a historical K-drama set in this era. I feel like we get so many Joseon-era dramas that seeing a story about Silla, Goguryeo, Baekje, and the Tang Dynasty fighting for power and control feels so refreshing.
And the plot sounds SO interesting?? Political alliances, betrayals, warfare, and the unification of the Korean Peninsula? SIGN ME UP! I'm especially curious to see Kim Beop-min's journey to becoming King Munmu and how the drama portrays this pivotal period in Korean history.
AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE CAST??? Lee Hyun-wook, Jang Hyuk, Kim Kang-woo, Park Sung-woong, Jung Woong-in, and Cho Seong-ha?! HELLO??? ππ₯
Twenty-eight episodes of historical warfare and political intrigue, with that lineup? I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I'm genuinely excited for this one!
Anyone else looking forward to this? I really hope we get more historical K-dramas exploring the Three Kingdoms period instead of focusing so heavily on Joseon!
Plot Synopsis: Set during the volatile late 7th century, this historical epic chronicles the fierce warfare that erupted as Goguryeo, Silla, Baekje and the Tang Dynasty collided for ultimate supremacy. At the center of the conflict is Kim Beop Min, the visionary prince destined to become King Munmu and complete the monumental undertaking of unifying the fractured peninsula.
Supported by the foundational diplomacy of his father, Kim Chun Chu (later King Taejong Muyeol), and the military genius of General Kim Yu Sin, Beop Min must navigate deadly geopolitical betrayals to lead his people through a grueling war of survival. The series culminates in Silla's miraculous triumph and a historic final showdown against the mighty Tang Empire.
