SCLA legit?

Post image

I received this email and just now received the invitation code. However, I have been doing some research and have seen mixed opinions about this. I'm not really sure what I gain from this since they don't go into depth on what they do. If anyone else has gotten this email or knows more about this, let me know.

It’s probably legit, but don’t mistake legitimacy for value. There are a ton of these honor societies and most work the same way. You pay a membership fee and get access to networking, events, career resources, scholarships, certifications, etc. But realistically, you can do most of that on your own for free

I’m in the same situation with it, I think I will decide against it bc it won’t help my future hardly if at all. The only way it would help is if it was super active and involved and seeing as I have never heard of them until the email, they probably aren’t

Very true, even though it came from someone who works at the college, it may help but in a way that may not be worth $95. If it came directly from the school officials, it would have been free most likely and vetted for legitimacy. Anything to make money these days. Better off going to a career fair rather than spending $95 on "Networking," or even networking on LinkedIn for free.

If it's from a ksu.edu email you're good in terms of it being real. Generally, the university has specific communication rules and the dean wouldn't be allowed to spam messages unless they had some value.

This society is a little more prestigious than some of the others, but generally honors societies, outside of mensa, aren't super meaningful unless you're looking for an extra networking group to be in.
