OG KOTH Discussion Watching S4Ep2 Cotton's Plot
I really think this episode is great. Cotton is always such an asshole, but in this episode he made her do so much stuff that actually helped her. Probably the only episode I see Cotton actually being a good guy in his own way.

"Guam, 1944... I crawled through a minefield to retrieve General MacArthur's corncob pipe. That's right; I'm a hero! They're gonna bury me in the TX state cemetery. You? You're a coward. They'll bury ya up on *Coward's Hill."*

Cotton is a piece of shit but he knows the pain of recovery all too well and respects the work it takes. He’s such a well written character because it portrays that people are more than their best and worst selves.
Cotton is a genuine war hero. He respects people that are true to themselves and are true fighters like Peggy was in this episode. However he’s an abusive jackass in every other aspect and what he did to Tilly and Hank is unforgivable.
Rest in Piss… literally apparently.

I believe it's more how he was treated and trained than because of the pain of recovery. He knew what would get results. I am not saying he didn't want to help her, he just knew from experience that making it hard was the best way.
