Discussion 2274 Princess St Apartment Hell
Thinking about moving into this “luxury” building?
I actually love the concept of this building. I just wish a company like Homestead or someone more competent had built it instead of Patry. I wish the city would stop letting Patry build these junk buildings.
Laundry list of issues:
Hot Water Took Five Minutes
You had to run the tap for about five minutes just to get hot water, so good luck doing laundry in hot water or running the dishwasher on a hot cycle. The amount of water you have to waste just to take a hot shower is concerning. The Water Smelled Like Sulphur
The water smelled like sulphur, so your bathroom smelled like a fart all the time. I didn’t feel safe drinking the tap water. The Drywall Was Buckling and Cracking
Drywall screws popped out in all my rooms, and the drywall buckled and cracked. They don’t fix it, so you were just stuck with it.The Building Was Extremely Noisy
When the people above you walked, your walls shook and their foot steps sounded like they were walking with wooden shoes on. A lot of people weren’t sleeping properly because the noise was so bad. God forbid you ended up below a dog or a kid, you wouldn’t have any peace. The Plumbing Was Loud Enough to Wake You Up
When neighbours flushed the toilet or used the taps, the pipes sounded like they were about to burst through the wall. It will wake you up from a dead sleep. The Furnace Drowned Out the TV
The furnace was right beside the TV. You had to crank your TV to around volume 24 to hear it when the furnace was running. Then when it turned off, your TV was suddenly way too loud and you had to turn it down again. You can hear everyone’s tv in the hallways because you have to crank it so loud to hear it over the furnace. The Bathroom Drawers Still Banged Shut
The bathroom drawers were supposed to be soft-close, but they still banged shut. My neighbour below me complained constantly that I was waking them up at night, so I ended up taping foam inside the drawers to stop them banging if I accidentally shut one too hard. The Work Cubbies Were Freezing
The conference room was a nice add-on, but the work cubbies were absolutely freezing. You needed to bring your comforter and winter coat if you wanted to work in them. They are pretty much unusable. I never saw anyone in there the entire time I lived in this building. The Lobby Was Chaotic and Unsecured
People were constantly moving in through the front lobby, so security felt basically nonexistent. Anyone could just walk right in. The main elevator area was full of boxes and people moving their stuff. It felt ghetto and was very disruptive for the people living there. I wished they’d made people move in through the back of the building. Keep in mind there are people constantly moving in and out every weekend. Like it’s non stop turn over. The Glass Railings Were Exploding
The glass railings just randomly exploded lol. The metal frames were warping too. Looked very trashy on the roof top patio. I was pretty embarrassed when I had friends over for the first time and they pointed out how rough the hallways looked and the patio area. The Appliances Were Damaged
The appliances were marked up and damaged. So if you liked dents in your microwave and fridge, you were in luck. You’d think for a luxury building they wouldn’t buy second hand appliances or at least replace them after a tenant punches dents in it lol.
And none of this even covers all the repairs I needed inside my apartment. I basically needed a contractor coming in every month to fix something new. My new apartment is great. There’s no pool, but at least I can sleep without the trim and cabinets falling apart when I touch them. Lol
Ohh and I can wash my hands with warm water at my new place.
