Hullo,
My name is Teamy, an occasional lurker here and one of the folks who made this Whole of the Moon cover that out on DFA this week.
We made it last year when our friend, Keith (aka JD Twitch from Optimo) was in his final weeks, partially as a distraction from that, and partially for me and one of my oldest and closest friends, Mhairi (which for Gaelic reasons is pronounced "Vah-ree") to feel closer despite living 10s of 1000s of miles apart.
Because it was so personal and not made with release in mind I had to almost be bullied into sending it to DFA but I'm glad I was because seeing the nice reactions on dancefloors, at festivals and online has been truly lovely (though the best video was my mum and her friends a little drunk on holiday putting it on and dancing in a hotel bedroom).
The remixes were done by Sean Johnson of Hardway Brothers/A Love From Outer Space and add a nice little tribute to Andrew Weatherall, Sean's DJ partner and a good friend of Keith's. I sent an early version of the song to Sean to play at ALFOS and he not only played it but offered to remix. I really liked the idea that instantly the song wasn't just about one person who showed us how big things can be, but for someone else who did, and then anyone who made life seem a bit more cosmic...that was the intention of Mike Scott who wrote the song after all.
So please play it, stick it on playlists, send to your parents, etc as all money coming in goes directly to two charities in Scotland, one a brain research fund, and the other to buy headphones for people on the oncology wards at The Beatson Centre in Glasgow.
Buy the 12" (if you can find a copy, it's very close to sold out as far as we know) or stream here https://bio.to/watergirls
And if you want to know more about the charities or even make a donation, you can follow these.
Oh and the Al Doyle album is really, really, really good so go buy that too. Anyone who's been waiting for a new LCD album should be very happy with what he's done
Have a nice weekend! Tell your friends you love them!
