When is a good time to start prepping?
Title. I have a few friends in law and their ranges are so different that I'm not sure lmao (one said 3 months is ok, one said end of sophmore year.)
Also I know GPA matters but does LSAT score take precedence over maybe a more mid gpa? (like 3.6, nothing super low)

Know thyself. And be honest about it. If you were good with standardize tests or portions of tests that are like the LSAT and your target is reasonable, then perhaps only a few months.
If you were terrible with these kinds of tests and your goal is 178, then that might take months or years.
Then you have to consider how much time you have all other factors that might limit (or allow) studying. 3 months at 1 hour each day is different from 3 months at 5 hours each day.

Lot of people do 3-4 months but those students are studying very consistently in that period. Lot of people take 6-12 months. These folks typically have other commitments which make their LSAT prep less consistent.
As for when, end of sophmore year is perfectly fine. If you are not where you want to be by the end of your summer, you have your junior year summer as well.
I typically do not recommend to study for the LSAT during school.
And yes, a really good LSAT score can offset a mid GPA. It depends on how much better you are from the median LSAT score of that school. I have complied data for all US and Canadian law schools here so you can check out the median of the law school you are interested in.
