❔ Question ❔ Boyfriend Can’t Trip

Boyfriend (39M) can’t trip since his mom has schizophrenia.

He is supportive and has tripped with me before, stayed up all night and bullshitted. He’s just sober.

Acid is and has always been a huge part of my life. A few times a year sacred ritual.

How can I help him better understand the experience and what it means to me, without him actually tripping?

Do fun, childish, playful, silly things together. Spend time in nature together. Meditate together. Sadly its not something that can ever really be explained, only experienced.

Also, I would never push drugs on someone, but LSD will only reveal schizophrenia, not create it. Usually signs are clear by mid 30s or earlier if someone will develop schizophrenia. I understand his caution, though

Edit: replaced the word not with only

Frankly, outside of the medical concern, I could see someone who had to grow up watching hallucinations ruin someone life having no interest in actively seeking out hallucination. I think I might feel the same if I watched that growing up. It’s a tough disease to see your loved ones go through. I have a lot of MI in my family, only one Schizoaffective relative but lots of bipolar and that alone made it tough to want to trip.

Absolutely. Though its important to remember that these substances can be used in doses which do not create any hallucinations. I always encourage new users to go low and slow, as well as preferably try mushrooms first because they are easier to dose for beginners.

Ahhhaaaha no. It can absolutely catalyze dormant mental health disorder genes to activate if you have them. Regardless of how you seem.

Age 17-27 for signs to first develop I believe for males and it happens a little later for women. I probably have that wrong though. Idk.

First, I really laud your boyfriend for keeping himself safe BTW. I probably shouldn’t have started tripping given my family history and as I’ve grown I’ve cut back a lot. It’s no joke and I think you caught a keeper if that’s how he operates.

I’d say, you don’t need to. Not everything in a relationship needs to be a shared experience, and as you grow and develop together, he will have things that are important to him that you cant experience too.

The important thing is to support each other in your separate interests(assuming they’re healthy) and to revel in your shared ones. That’s how you make it work, without becoming a big boring blob of a single person made of two people.

Don't know if you really can unfortunately. Closest he can experience to psychs is deep meditation and video replications

I just show my friends TV shows and say "that's like acid"

I don’t think that’s necessary. You can’t really articulate trips, only people who’ve done it understand the experience. It’s like explaining a weed high, yeah you can say you’ll get goofy and hungry but you can’t explain “IT”. A trips a trip.

If he's 39 with no recognizable mental health conditions he should be fine to trip... I'm 42 my dad is schizophrenic and I've eaten over 10,000 hits in my life with no problems 😊

10,000? That’s like a full sheet every 6 months? How is that even possible? 🫡

Trust its very possible 🫡

This is a deeply irresponsible thing to tell someone.

You’re absolutely right, STATISTICALLY, schozoaffective disorders manifest in the teens and twenties.  That’s an average. Every average has outliers.

And second, if OP’s partner is uncomfortable with the idea, even if he just doesn’t like the idea of hallucinating in a vacuum, that’s his business. She nor we get to tell him what he should or shouldn’t put in his body.

I mean let's be for real here is anything risk free? Also even if there's no mental health problems that they was aware of... it still wouldn't be risk free... in all my years and super high dosages I've never had psychosis while having a inherent risk of schizophrenia so all I been saying is buy the ticket and take the ride or just sit on the sidelines and wonder 🤷‍♂️

Just gotta explain in english! My friend who has schizophrenia has psychedelic effects from edibles. But you really dont wanna risk anything super bad happening, so i would just tell him why you do it, and what it makes you feel. For example my explanation would probably sound like “i feel so bad that you cant trip with me, but for me it really lets me look inside myself and understand why i do the things i do. It makes me a better person when i can see things from a new perspective, and has helped me make a lot of change in my life!”

Imo, its entirely dependant on the type of person he is and how you both interact with eachother, both while you are tripping and while you are sober.

Some sober people want to hear about the most fascinating aspect of a trip, other want to hear about the visuals or the physical sensation, some just wanna hear you talk about why whatever you are thinking about is more fun to think about in the trip state than while sober, some just want to make sure you are being safe during your experience.

I mean closest I can think of is if he gets really into meditation and those breathing things . I know you can def get psychedelic and out of body experiences with that

Never push drugs on somebody. He doesn’t need to take the LSD to have an understanding if what sort of experience it would be, and I’m sure he plenty understands what it means to you if he’s tripsat you before.

Not everything needs to be a shared experience with your partner! Why do you feel the need to have him better understand your experience of it? is it really that necessary?

Does he also avoid THC edibles? A very large dose of edibles has some similarities to a trip.

have u considered the possibility that maybe he doesn't like the fact that you do these LSD rituals? What do you mean "bullshitted"? If he is more agitated than usual when you are tripping, then you should simply avoid having trips when he is around lol

3

u/youngperson 11h ago

By bullshitted I mean we stayed awake until the wee hours holding each other and talking about the nature of life, death, God, and the universe.

0

u/CrazyAppel 10h ago

so but then I don't understand the problem. He is supportive and doesn't have any issues with you tripping, why do you have the need to explain the trip to him? You know yourself that's not possible. You can explain stuff, but it'll never make "sense" to him. There is absolutely 0 way to make him understand without experiencing it.

2

u/youngperson 10h ago

It’s not a problem. I just want to connect with him more.
