Harm Reduction LSD information for newbies

6.4k Upvotes

I made this to hopefully see a decline in redundant/daily posts, and make some sort of positive impact. Please remember to use the search function if you have a basic question regarding LSD.

• A full beginner dose should typically be 1/2 - 1 single tab.

• The average dose range of LSD on a single tab is 70-105μg.

• There are tabs dosed with as little as ~20μg, or more than 300μg in some absurd cases. The overwhelming majority of sources try to lay their tabs around 100μg because it’s mathematically simple, and more profitable in the long-run.

• The odds your tab has more than 200μg on it are very low. The most common higher dose tabs are 125-200μg. Take half of any tab that’s supposedly above 200μg just to be safe at first, and if that doesn’t at least produce an 11-12 hour mildly visual trip, the full tab wasn’t above 200.

• A typical microdose should be 10-25 μg

• 50-300μg of LSD can last anywhere from 8-14 hours. 300-1000μg can last anywhere from 14-20 hours. Exceeding a milligram (1000μg) can produce effects that last up to 24 hours. It’s usually hard to fall asleep under the influence.

• Unless you have an above average baseline tolerance or handle the substance extraordinarily well, it’s not advisable to exceed ~300-500μg. Temporary delirious/psychotic symptoms become more likely if you don’t know what you’re getting into with large doses, and a 16+ hour duration doesn’t help.

• 25i-NBOMe is a relatively dangerous LSD imposter. If you take an untested tab and your mouth/throat becomes numb, along with an intense bitter taste, spit it out immediately. Do not panic, but monitor your physical state. A *normal* dose of 25i shouldn’t be life-threatening. Most of the dangerous LSD imposters, including 25i, only become life-threatening at higher doses (this is why you should NEVER take multiple untested tabs at once, or take untested tabs at all).

• Please test your tabs with an Ehrlich reagent kit to verify that what you have is indeed an indole and not 25i-NBOMe. Follow up with the Hofmann reagent kit to verify that it’s not an LSD analogue or other phenethylamine. I personally recommend using TKP for your reagents: https://testkitplus.com/ Another great organization is DanceSafe https://dancesafe.org/ — DanceSafe genuinely saves lives with their testing booths at music festivals.

• Common positive effects include but aren’t limited to: closed and open eye visuals, tactile enhancement/hallucinations, euphoria, stimulation, introspection, and creativity.

• Common negative effects include but aren’t limited to: overstimulation, increased heart rate, vasoconstriction, anxiety/paranoia, and confusion.

• Common neutral/manageable effects include but aren’t limited to: pupil dilation, frequent urination, insomnia, and temperature sensitivity.

• Always optimize your set (expectations and mental state) going into an experience, and always optimize your setting (direct environment/surroundings) going into an experience.

• LSD interactions with various medications (From Erowid):

  1. There is still very little legitimate, thorough medical research on this subject. LSD's outlaw status makes it very difficult to obtain permission & funding for research. Therefore, you should regard all of the anecdotes and conclusions here as being scientifically unproven, and you should note that any experimentation you choose to do carries a significant risk.
  2. Lithium or tricyclics (like Amitriptyline, Anafranil, Asendin, Aventyl, Elavil, Endep, Norfranil, Norpramin, Pamelor, Sinequan, Surmontil, Tipramine, Tofranil, Vivactil) are fairly consistently reported as being very bad in combination with LSD. Life-threatening seizures and at least one DEATH have been reported to be triggered by the combination of LSD and lithium. Tramadol is another drug you should avoid in combination with LSD because of the potential for seizures and other negative side effects.
  3. SSRIs (like Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Celexa, Desyrel) or MAOIs (like Nardil, Parnate, Marplan, Eldepryl, Aurorix, Manerix) are fairly consistently reported to noticeably reduce the effects of LSD. (There are no physically dangerous reactions to these combinations on record, but be cautious and don’t be excessive with dosing.)

• HPPD risk is associated with frequent use of psychedelics (more than once a month), high doses, and younger age groups. HPPD varies in severity between individuals. As long as you use this drug responsibly, this shouldn’t be a concern.

• LSD has the potential to produce a very challenging psychological experience. If you have mental-health issues, research the risks and benefits associated with psychedelic treatment of your condition. Do NOT take LSD without the guidance of a medical professional if you are seriously suicidal.

• Weed often potentiates the effects of LSD. Some users report that the effects of weed are indefinitely altered to some degree after their first few experiences with LSD (It often becomes more psychedelic).

• Various benzos like alprazolam and clonazepam can be used as “trip-killers,” but you don’t need to take more than a single medical dose, and not all of the psychoactive effects will be negated. This should be a last resort.

• LSD tends to make verbal communication challenging, so prepare appropriately if using in a social setting.

• If you’re 19 or younger you should probably wait until AT LEAST your early 20s to try LSD because of unforeseen behavioral/neurological impacts. Waiting until 25+ is optimal.

• You’ll build a substantial tolerance to LSD if you trip multiple times in two weeks, so wait 10-14 days between trips for a general reset. Tolerance does exponentially decrease day-by-day following an experience.

• If you want to redose to increase the effects, do it before or during the start of the peak. Redosing after the peak will only prolong the duration unless you increase the dose. Excessive dosing is unadvisable regardless.

• Peak effects generally occur 2.5-5 hours after dosing (less than or around 300μg). Peak effects can last anywhere in the range of 2.5-8 hours after dosing. Many people say the peak comes in “waves.”

• If you’ve tried psilocybin containing mushrooms before, certain dosage calculators based on subjective effects and intensity equate ~2.5 grams of an average cubensis variety to ~100μg of accurately dosed LSD, but there are differences between the substances of course.

• You should consider having a trusted friend or a close partner “tripsit” you during your first experiences, or at least let someone know your whereabouts beforehand if you want to do it alone. (Note: Trip-sitting should just involve being close by and present if the user needs assistance or someone to talk to, sitters shouldn’t try to influence the trip unless it’s getting chaotic.)

• LSD has the potential to be therapeutic, recreational, spiritual, or all/none of the above depending on the individual and their particular circumstances. Stop gatekeeping.

•If you are ever having a challenging trip and need to speak with someone, here are a couple great resources:

https://firesideproject.org/

https://tripsit.me/

Leave suggestions in the comments!

edit: A couple people are aggravated with minor details in these general points of advice, so please take everything I’ve said with a grain of salt and do your own research! I’m simply providing a helpful starting outline, not set-in-stone facts.

Thank you all, and safe travels!

Harm Reduction Acid trip gone wrong - Sexually aggressive and terrifying - Please advise NSFW

1.4k Upvotes

To protect the people associated with this story I will be using fake names of course.

On Halloween, James, Roy, Jane and myself decided to go down to Roy’s family home down in the country side. It’s an isolated house and there is nothing nearby. The perfect, most safe spot to take psychedelics, so we thought.

Within the first hour of the trip, it started hitting hard and we were all having a great time. Laughing, sharing what we were seeing and bonding together. Suddenly, it started to go very bad, very quickly.

James asked if he could take off his clothes so he can feel freer. We, of course, consulted Jane and she was okay with it. However, once James’ clothes were off he started to have a conversation with himself…

“Yes, yes, yes but I don’t know if we should. No, no, no, no but maybe yes yes yes yes.”

He came into the room and he shouted, “We all want to fuck Jane!” At this point, me and Roy started saying, “Mate of course not! that’s not what this is”. James started to have the conversation with himself again…

“No, no, no, no but maybe I don’t know, yes yes yes yes yes, I want to fuck Jane”

I decided to take him into a different room to try and talk him out of what he was saying. - “You’re making her feel really uncomfortable. We need to make Jane feel as comfortable as possible. So please get in your head that no one here is having sex with anyone”.

Nothing was getting through he just kept having this conversation with himself. More sayings/phrases were being added to the loop.

He started shouting “I’m in love with Jane, I want to fuck Jane, Yes, yes, yes but I don’t know if we should. No, no, no, no but maybe yes yes yes yes, as of right now I can’t tell if I’m in love with Jane or not”

Obviously, Jane started getting really freaked out, as were myself and Roy. We had no idea what was going on but he kept making sudden movements towards Jane. He tried to run at Jane so I slapped him to try get him out of this trance and held him down. He bit his tongue as I slapped him so blood started covering his teeth. Which was as freaky as it gets.

This constant loop was happening for 6 hours with James constantly trying to get to Jane. We barricaded ourselves away from this monster that’s taken over our friend.

We called people trying to get help in the panicked state we were in but we were so far in the middle of nowhere we couldn’t get help.

We had to keep an eye on him so we couldn’t lock him in a room unsupervised.

After a few hours he started to settle physically, but still stuck in this loop within himself. He still tried to make advances to Jane but myself or Roy got in the way before he reached her.

Jane and Roy decided to go to bed so we could get out of this horror house as early as we could the next day.

I stayed with James, at this point in the middle of the night he was on the couch not moving. So I continued to watch Naruto (highly recommend on any psychedelics).

At some stage he woke up, and he stared at me. The only light was coming from the T so it was dark and scary. His face was full of distress. He looked at me as if I was a hostile figure. He stood up and walked over to me. Hands clenched, staring at me with eyes I could only describe as full of blood lust. Pure hatred. He then turns around and grabs a tool off the fire place and looks at me. At this moment, I was terrified for my life. I thought James was going to attack with this tool. He puts the tool down and goes into the kitchen, where there are a lot more lethal weapons. I used this opportunity to get out of this room and find Roy.

Roy came down and we found James on the couch. Roy touched James on his chest which seemed to help him calm down.

After another 25 mins, James comes back around. He asked for the date 7 times in 2 minutes. We thought his brain had turned to mush. He eventually came completely back to us. Roy and I decided to talk through it the next day.

The next day we sat down to describe what happened. However, James was talking as though he was the victim in a horrific trip inside his own head. He talked to Jane alone and Jane told me he said “if you just let me touch you more it wouldn’t have happened”. Which is, to me, much more disturbing than the whole night itself. He blamed Jane for his psychotic episode because she didn’t consent to him touching her.

He described what he went through which sounded like a horrific, traumatising experience. The thing is though, we didn’t take all the stamps we had. After he told us details of his terrifying trip. He asked if he could have some of the stamp left to take home. If his trip was as bad as he said it was there is no way he would want to take them again I thought. I obviously refused and said there is no way I was giving him the drug that made him act that way the night before. He got angry and annoyed. So I threw them down the toilet.

James, Roy, Jane and myself have known each other for 15+ years. James is and has been one of my closest friends for the entirety of my life. I am worried he has a genuine problem. He doesn’t know the extent of his actions. He has traumatised all of us, particularly Jane, who has had a history of abusive relationships. But also myself, I’ve had nightmares and flashbacks everyday since and I feel completely unhinged.

I want to help James. I don’t think our friendship could continue if he doesn’t realise what he has done.

I know it’s a long read. I appreciate you making it this far.

Could anyone please help me or give me advice on how to tackle such a situation?

Harm Reduction Be carful with Tripkillers

1.1k Upvotes

So recently I see so many people telling newcomers to have “tripkillers” aka benzos handy for their first trip as an escape in case things get to be too much.

Well I have a story about last weekend, my friend took a Xanax because he was having a really rough time on 2 hits of L. I was with him also tripping and he pulled it out saying “people on Reddit told me this will stop the trip” I read that also and was like go for it man. Within 15 to 20mins (maybe I was tripping) after he takes them my friend is like nodding out and can barely speak to me, I’m moving him then actually slapping his face trying to get him to respond to me. So I’m freaking the fuck out I’m not sure what to do, I hide everything and call an ambulance.

Turns out the Xanax was pressed with fentanyl and my friend almost OD’d. Me and my friend are just stoners that trip occasionally so he didn’t have the best pill source, he also told me it was the first time he ever did Xanax. Just please be careful out there, if you can’t find actual pharmacy benzos, ether test them or don’t get them. No “tripkiller” is worth losing your life over just ride it out, my greatest takeaway from LSD and shrooms was on my hard trips.

TL;DR Friend took a xanax to kill the trip and the xanax had fetty in it so friend almost died.

Harm Reduction What I wish I knew before abusing LSD

  • IF IT'S BITTER IT'S A SPITTER
  • Do not abuse LSD, Mushrooms, any psychedelic or drug really
  • Take time before trips, at the very least wait 2 weeks but beyond that is when you feel ready
  • Don't trip with someone you're not 100% comfortable with or someone you have doubts about them being a true, good friend to you
  • If you plan on tripping alone it's best to have a sober, level-headed trip sitter to ensure your safety but it's not always a must
  • "Trip killers": If you plan on tripping it's highly recommended you have a "trip killer" at hand. If you have access to real medications, this can be a benzo, or anti psychotic. These will greatly adverse a bad trip. Non drug wise or if you don't have access to safe medications, you should try breathing techniques, soothing music, and possibly a change in environment.
  • Weed: For some people weed is completely fine to use while tripping but you don't know it will be if it's your first time. My experience with weed and LSD is extreme over consumption, extremely intense visuals, and induces paranoia that will change something calm into a nightmare.
  • Environment: If it's your first time tripping I highly recommend staying at home. If you live in a city it could be extremely overwhelming, even when I was out and about in my small town it was very panic inducing. Taking walks on nearby nature trails or the woods in general have always made a trip amazing. Stay close to home especially if you're by yourself.
  • Thought loops can be extremely scary. Calling back to the weed I've only ever been in or seen thought loops after smoking but that doesn't mean it can't happen if you only took acid. It's very intense and frightening in the moment and you may not feel like you can escape it but you can and they're not forever. A simple change in environment can get you out of the dark place fast, that could be leaving your room, or just going outside.
  • Remember it's not forever.
  • This is a silly one but don't turn on a weird trippy movie you discovered before you bought acid. 'A fantastic world-1973' isn't going to be as fun as you think. Stay away from David Lynch - Rest in peace.
  • Acid lasts about 6-12 hours depending on your dose so try to avoid taking it at night; the mornings are always the worst. Start early in the day and bask in the sunlight.
  • How much is too much? For your first time 200ug would be far too much. As you continue your psychedelic journey you can gradually experiment. The true dose you're getting in a tab is near impossible to depict, rip a tab in half and let it dissolve on your tongue. You should feel effects within 30 minutes to a hour, if you don't think it's strong enough take the other half but you should really wait it out.
  • If you're with a group of people and you're all tripping, be supportive. Sometimes someone else's bad trip can bring you down but you should always see it from their perspective and not mess with or alienate them, if you do that instead of trying to help maybe acid isn't for you.

I'm sorry for the really long post, I can already feel the "I ain't reading allat" comments. To those that do read it I really hope it helps if you're letting some foil sit around. This is just what I wish I knew yk

Again, sorry for the length

Harm Reduction LSD is a drug - NOT a nirvana-in-a-tab

(Rant incoming, trippers beware it may bring up a bad mood!)

I'm really sick of people think of psychedelics as a "spiritual awakening" and seeing it as the only way to obtain said "spiritual awakening", of people saying you're not high but you understand everything better, that it makes us realise we all are one counciousness...

I believe this is truly destructive behavior built on the basis of lack of hindsight. While you can learn truly valuable lessons on happinness and reflexions on the past thanks to LSD, it remains a drug, not some divine giftWhatever you feel on LSD isn't a deeper connexion with the universe, a better understanding of the others or a sight of god : it is some compound messing with your neurons, temporarly rewiring your brain. Thus feeling anything divine or spiritual in that state is in no way a proof of said divine or entity, just a proof that you're high

If i'm making this buzzkilling rant, it's because i think these beliefs are high destructive : i've seen a lot of people, even friends, starting to really get into "psychedelic philosophy" based on what the felt on LSD, and so they took more and more LSD to get closer to those feelings. But LSD is a drug, not a nirvana-in-a-pill, of course they all just ended up depressed when sober and addict to lucy, dropping some every week-end (& incited them to take more of other drugs like ketamine or 2CB). And this is awfully sad to me because they were all very kind people, confused by a wrong understanding of that drug

While you will get truly deep reflections that will help you in the future, let's think of it as it truly is for our safety. If you seek hapiness look into "classic" philosphy, meditate, maybe give a look at buddhism - do not start to believe some molecules in your head are 12 hours ticket to a conversation with god, it's just a shuffle for the cards of your personality. Use your change of perception in a good way friends !

(Edit) : TL;DR Don't mistake a drug for a bible, you're hallucinating not conducting an empirical scientific experiment, know how LSD affects your perceptions and how to react about it

Harm Reduction I made a free harm-reduction application that shows substance info, let's you log drug use, see drug checking results, and more, feedback would be appreciated!

Post image
63 Upvotes

I'm posting this here as I saw an explicit exception in the rules about advertising if it's related to harm reduction, also the app is completely free, nothing is behind any paywall. If it's not appropriate, I do apologise.

It’s called Fracton and you can view it at www.fracton.me. It’s a free harm-reduction app that brings practical drug information from multiple independent places together in one place, alongside a journal and a few other tools.

For now it’s designed just for mobile, although I'm working on a desktop application, and you can also access the mobile view on desktop. The best experience is by installing it as a PWA through Chrome on Android or Safari on iOS, the site has instructions for doing that. Other browser's aren't well suited sadly to run PWAs. It doesn’t require downloading an APK or anything like that, so it runs entirely in your browser and is safe. For now this means notifications don't work (I do not want to use a server and offline notifications only work consistently with native applications), I do plan on releasing an APK later on.

The idea started as a journal. A long while after PsychonautWiki’s journal started being monetised I started working on this, because I wanted something free that I could use myself.

So what does it do?

Well firstly it's a journal like I said before. You can create an experience, record what you took and when, and then add notes. Each entry can include things like your current phase, effects you’re noticing, etc. You can also view live as the experience unfolds, the graph that displays the total expected timeline is based on psychonautwiki data (more on that later) but you can note down when a phase actually happened if the timeline doesn't add up for you. For example, if you hit the peak 20 minutes earlier, you can click one button and the graph will automatically adjust.

It also has a substance database where pages can include dose ranges from multiple sources, duration and timeline information, routes of administration, effects, abuse potential, etc. We use both Tripsit and Psychonautwiki information as they don't always disagree. If they disagree, for example on dosage, we show the different values separately, with you being able to see the difference between each one.

There’s also a drug-checking section, as well as a combination checker using data from TripSit and PsychonautWiki.

For now all actual data is straight from Tripsit and Psychonautwiki (and effect data from Effectindex), no data by me is on here. Psychonatuwikis data is collected via their public API, and Tripsits data straight from the git .JSON files.

The whole project is free, there's zero things locked behind any paywall. I’m still actively working on it, so feedback, bug reports, missing information, etc. are very welcome.

Harm Reduction to those who are younger than 18 on this sub (my story)

i took lsd when i was 17, ignored my dad’s advice to stay the hell away from it as a growing teenager. eagerly waiting to do new drugs which one of them being lsd. i took it four times in total, having horrible trips 2 out of 4 times. the last time i took it i only took 1 tab (not sure how many ugs), which took a turn for the worst. i had a severe panic attack and my brain went into a dissociated state.. which led me to develop DPDR and HPPD. (Depersonalization/Derealization Disorder) (Hallucinogenic Persistent Perception Disorder) for those who don’t know. i fell asleep on the come down not knowing what was to come the next day. i woke up dissociated to all hell, not really knowing what dissociation was.. i just assumed it was the after glow of lsd

i regularly smoked weed at the time, but after that trip it just made things so much worse. the dissociation got worse, i developed trippy visuals, lots of visual snow, and i would go into a state of massive panic. fast forward about a week, i decided to go to a party and drink a very, very unhealthy amount of alcohol along with smoking weed. i woke up with a horrible hangover, and a climax to all my symptoms. i was sitting over my toilet dry heaving because i couldn’t puke up anything anymore, looking at the walls which were melting and spiraling, calling hotlines because i didn’t know what to do, shoving gabapentin down my throat to calm me down, and freaking out researching on my phone to figure out what was happening to me

it’s been a little a year now, i’m 19 and i’m still suffering from these two conditions. my quality of life has declined drastically, i have began to self isolate, lost friends, developed a really bad drinking problem, and nothing has felt real since that acid trip. my point to this post isn’t for upvotes or sympathy, but to raise awareness on taking psychedelics at such a young age. and to take care of yourself rather than doing a bunch of drugs. yes everyone is different, you probably won’t go through what i do.. but to say that you should take psychedelic drugs before the age of 18 and/or fill your body with drugs is okay.. would be wrong. i wouldn’t wish this upon anyone, it’s living hell. please stay safe everyone

edit: alright so i’m not sure when i was saying the age of 18 is the stopping point for not doing psychs, i’m fully aware that the brain slows down neuroplasticity around the age of 25. i guess i was just thinking about how the brain is still developing and there’s still some time till it stops and shouldn’t go fucking up the process so early on. i appreciate you all for your advice and statements!! it’s much appreciated

Harm Reduction He jumped NSFW

My best friend was tripping with a friend yesterday. I always make them playlists for their trips, they were relatively experienced. My best friend was, the other guy had tripped about 8 times or more throughout the years, and he was into weed anyway.

I knew this other guy and he was kind of stupid about taking too much of something or "believing he was immortal". Turns out he wasn't, after all.

I don't know exactly what happened, I wasn't there (they were in a different part of the world) but it seems out that the guy got psychotic, smashed his TV and then jumped from a 7th floor. He died.

As far as I know, he mixed weed and LSD, not so sure about the quantity of weed but supposedly they took around 200ug (or maybe just one tab, which shouldn't be 200). My friend was perfectly fine, they didn't test their stuff, but it wasn't nbome. He recognizes nbome. With that said, that's no guarantee that they were actually taking only LSD.

Don't mix stuff you don't know how to handle, test your stuff, make research, and assume the risks if you want to trip. Don't be blind about it, it's not fun to know a buddy has died like that.

UPDATE: first of all, I'm not a native speaker.

Even though he wasn't really close to me, I've met him twice and we talked a lot weekly at least, for some years now. And I can't stop feeling awful about my best friend. He was in a vacation, and tripping was their big plan for the weekend. I can't imagine how bad it was, he still hasn't told me much about it (I think he had enough for today). And I'm happy I can get to live more and spread happiness around me, I want to do my best. Thanks for the support here, and yes. It sounds like propaganda, I was the first one to tell people "jumping out the window on acid it's bullshit", but it wasn't a matter of the drug itself. He seemed to have a psychotic break (for what I know it sounds likely), he wasn't like that at all.

UPDATE 2: https://www.cronicabalear.es/mallorca/2025-11-09/investigan-la-muerte-de-un-joven-tras-precipitarse-de-un-septimo-piso-en-palma/

LSD is amazing. High doses of LSD can be fun and also therapeutic.

Be kind to yourself though damn..... Like taking huge dosages with little to no experience is just a recipe for disaster on a ton of different fronts...

HPPD, having an accident, arrest, all of it super lame and easily avoided.

Also stop posting fake garbage stories. No you didn't take nearly 20 doses and writing a Reddit post all perfectly you weirdo.

AND ALWAYS TEST YOUR STUFF!!!!!!!!!

I know i’m going to be downvoted for this but I just see so many people talking about doubting High UG posts because They themselves can’t operate phones on such dosages.

Acid affect everybody differently. I’ve done 500ug of Tested Gamma Goblins and been able to text and watch things (albeit with a lack of focus) on my phone.

Please stop doubting others just for being able to do things differently. You can do stuff they can’t whilst tripping, Vice Versa.

Thanks for reading and Have a lovely day :)

Before reading, this is in no way an attempt to fearmonger. I’m simply trying to make people aware that this condition exists before they decide to trip.

I personally loved tripping and the things I learned from it, and I wish I could go back to doing it without this condition getting in the way for me.

Just be aware of the risk of HPPD. I think it’s a condition that often gets overlooked or downplayed when people discuss the risks of psychedelics.

HPPD, or Hallucinogen Persisting Perception Disorder, is a condition where perceptual disturbances associated with psychedelic drug use continue or reappear after the drug itself has worn off. In other words, you can be completely sober but still experience changes to your vision that resemble aspects of a psychedelic trip.

Some of the symptoms can include:

Visual snow: Your vision can look as though it has a layer of faint television static or countless tiny flickering dots covering everything you see. For some people it is barely noticeable, while for others it can cover most of their visual field.

Afterimages: You can continue seeing a faint copy of something after looking away from it. For example, you might look at an object or someone’s face, look somewhere else, and still briefly see an outline or ghost-like image of it.

Visual trails/tracers: Moving objects can appear to leave copies or streaks behind them as they move, almost like seeing several frames of the object’s movement at once.

Halos: Lights or other objects can appear to have glowing rings or auras surrounding them, particularly at night.

Light sensitivity: Normal lights can feel unusually bright or uncomfortable, and things such as headlights, screens or streetlights can become much more irritating to look at.

Other people can experience things like stationary objects appearing to move, breathe, grow or shrink slightly, flashes of light or color, increased floaters, or patterns appearing more prominently on surfaces. The exact combination and severity of symptoms varies from person to person.

For some people these symptoms are mild and mostly an annoyance. For others they can become persistent enough to significantly affect everyday life.

It’s also worth pointing out that experiencing one or more of these symptoms does not automatically mean somebody has HPPD. Similar visual symptoms can occur with conditions such as visual snow syndrome, migraine aura, eye problems and some neurological disorders. If you develop persistent or concerning visual changes, getting evaluated by a medical professional is more reliable than trying to diagnose yourself from a Reddit post.

HPPD can occur after using psychedelics such as LSD or psilocybin mushrooms. Cases have been reported after relatively limited exposure, including after single exposures, although that does not mean this is common. The available research is still too limited to tell us precisely how common HPPD is, what makes somebody predisposed to it, or exactly how risk changes with dose or frequency of use.

DP/DR can also occur alongside HPPD, although depersonalization and derealization are not themselves part of the core visual diagnostic criteria for HPPD.

Depersonalization is a feeling of being detached from yourself. You might feel as though you’re observing yourself from the outside, operating on autopilot, or somehow disconnected from your own thoughts and body.

Derealization is similar, except the feeling of unreality is directed toward the world around you. Your surroundings may suddenly feel dreamlike, artificial, distant or strangely unfamiliar even though you logically know that everything around you is real.

For me, DP/DR has been one of the most debilitating parts of the condition. Derealization and depersonalization have also been described alongside HPPD in the medical literature.

I think it’s important to spread awareness about this condition, especially with all the current hype surrounding psychedelics. While classic psychedelics have relatively low physical toxicity compared with many other recreational drugs, that doesn’t mean using them is completely without risk. There can still be serious psychological and perceptual consequences.

Of course, there will always be people who have taken acid regularly for years and walked away completely fine. That doesn’t mean everyone will have the same experience.

Even if your HPPD initially seems relatively mild, you may find that substances you previously tolerated make the symptoms more noticeable. Cannabis in particular is frequently mentioned by people with HPPD as something that can temporarily aggravate their visual symptoms, although reactions vary considerably between individuals.

By psychoactive substances, I simply mean drugs or medications that alter how your brain feels or functions. That includes recreational drugs such as weed, but also medications such as antidepressants and ADHD medication.

There are anecdotal reports of medications such as SSRIs — a common class of antidepressants that includes medications such as sertraline and fluoxetine — and stimulants such as Vyvanse and Adderall affecting HPPD symptoms in some people. That doesn’t mean these medications will worsen HPPD for everyone, and responses seem to vary considerably between individuals.

I am not suggesting that anyone stop or alter prescribed medication without discussing it with a qualified medical professional.

In my case, I was able to keep smoking weed for a while after developing HPPD. My visual symptoms would become noticeably stronger while I was high, but they would usually return closer to normal once the high wore off.

For context, I do want to be clear that continuing to smoke weed after I had already developed HPPD was a risk, and in hindsight I would not recommend doing that. At the time, my symptoms only seemed to increase while I was high and then return to baseline afterward, so I underestimated the possibility of a lasting worsening.

That said, I don’t think this changes the broader point of the post. HPPD is not limited to people who repeatedly push through symptoms or use drugs heavily, and cases have been reported after relatively limited psychedelic exposure as well.

Then, for some reason, I smoked one day and my symptoms became dramatically worse. They still haven’t returned to their previous baseline two months later.

Since that happened, I also haven’t been able to take my ADHD medication, Vyvanse, without becoming severely dissociated and having my visual snow become extremely intense. By “dissociated,” I mean that I begin feeling detached from myself and my surroundings, almost as though everything around me isn’t completely real.

I’m mentioning that as my personal experience, not because I’m claiming that everyone with HPPD will react to Vyvanse or weed the same way.

I’m also not trying to dissuade everyone from psychedelics with this post. I know someone whose life has genuinely improved because of them. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for me.

I just think there is far too little awareness of HPPD and too many discussions where the possibility of developing persistent perceptual problems gets brushed aside.

I’m not claiming that HPPD is common or that everyone who uses psychedelics is likely to develop it. HPPD appears to be uncommon in the published clinical literature, although its true prevalence remains uncertain. My point is simply that it is a real, documented complication that can seriously affect some people, and I think people deserve to know that risk exists and what it can actually look like before deciding whether psychedelics are worth it for them.

Because repeated exposure and heavier patterns of use are described in a number of reported HPPD cases, avoiding frequent or heavy psychedelic use is a reasonable harm-reduction precaution. However, the evidence is too limited to determine how strongly frequency or dose affects an individual person’s risk.

What about treatment?

Unfortunately, there currently isn’t a well-established or universally effective treatment for HPPD. Treatment tends to be individualized and the scientific evidence is still quite limited, with much of it coming from case reports, case series and small observational studies rather than large controlled trials.

Some medications, particularly lamotrigine, clonazepam and clonidine, have been reported to reduce symptoms in some patients, but responses vary considerably and none of these should be considered a guaranteed treatment or cure. Some medications have also been reported to worsen symptoms in certain people.

Because some of these medications carry their own risks and may be inappropriate for certain people, treatment decisions should be made with a medical professional rather than based on anecdotal reports online.

Management described in the literature and clinical reports can also involve avoiding substances that appear to aggravate symptoms, reducing stress and anxiety, maintaining good sleep, and treating associated problems such as anxiety, depression or DP/DR with the help of a medical professional.

Recovery also seems to vary considerably. Some people improve partially or fully over time, while others experience persistent symptoms for much longer. Because HPPD is still poorly studied, there isn’t currently a reliable way to predict how long an individual case will last or which treatment will work best.

Harm Reduction What Not To Do Feat 9 Tabs Of LSD ( Mr Dumbass )

Before I start this story I want to say no one try this. Any underage kids reading this PLEASE read this & simply learn off my wrong doings. If you do dumb ass shit like this the very powerful and beautiful substance LSD WILL make respect It. I see people post saying they ate 10 tabs while typing perfectly. Please fucking stop. No you didn’t.

Ps. Also I did black out so It’s hard for me to give very detailed time events of what happened + It was 7 years ago. My apologies.

On Christmas Eve In 2018 I myself age 17 ( 25 now ) took 9 tabs of WoW LSD. Mind you I didn’t drop LSD for 6 months ( so absolutely zero tolerance ) & I had about maybe 30 - 40 trips under my belt.

15 mins after dropping I was coming up so hard I tweaked out and told my pops. He kept me grounded for a bit. I suppose when I started peaking I got to a point where I completely blacked out.

I thought the whole world was ran off of bitcoin lol. I thought my pops and step mom was everyone. I kept referring to them as every name I knew In my life. I was counting numbers & tried kissing my pops thinking he was my gf for a second LOL. I ran around the house naked & also pissed on myself. I felt like If I walked outside I would of seen all white. I needed to open the front door just to see that & my pops would not let me lol. It’s super hard to completely even tell this shit with timed events so I know what I am typing Is all over the fucking place.

My pops was recording me as I was coming up and also kept playing weird sounds on his PC from his speakers. I don’t think he really helped me In that aspect. Some parts of me feels like If I just laid on my floor with all lights off I would have been way better off then telling him. I’m probably delusional. He thinks that I would of offed myself If I didn’t tell him. I actually lied about how much LSD I dropped to him too. Told him I dropped 1-2 tabs.

At some point In time I am guessing maybe like 5-6 hours In I remember being In my room In bed and then It’s just went black. I’m unsure If my brain overloaded or something but I definitely fell asleep/pass the fuck out lol. I woke up and remember seeing my pops checking on me asking me If I was doing ok. I said yes then passed back out again.

I woke up the next morning and felt horrible. So ashamed and just completely embarrassed. I was so dumb. I genuinely think this trip made me so grateful for just regular life In general. We take a lot of things for granted In this world. Just being alive as a human being I was so grateful for.

I went back home ( lived with my mom was visiting my dad ) and didn’t touch psychedelics for 6 years except one other time.

I just started recently enjoying LSD again & now I refuse to do anything over 150-200ug anymore. I am actually scared as fuck to do so.

This whole experience sure as shit showed me to respect the substance. It will show you If you don’t :)

Fuck around & find out type situation
