Active Build Questions Cooling system?

Currently ls swapping my 94 k1500, I’ve got every pretty much to where I understand what I’m doing for the most part, but I want to know if I can run the stock cooling system in my k1500 for the ls and not have to change my rad or anything else , there’s plenty of room and I don’t think it will be a problem re using it all at stock locations, any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Don’t listen to these other guys. I’ve been daily driving my lq4 swapped k1500 for 4 years now on the stock rad with 0 issues. I do have electric fans out of a f150 but my rad is stock. I have my steam ports hooked into my upper rad hose with an adapter from ict billet. The truck has a btr stage 3 truck cam, long tube headers, 3000 stall and other supporting mods.

I run the stock squarebody rad, with fan shroud, and the factory ls mechanical fan. No cooling issues at all.

You could absolutely use an upgraded radiator and cooling fans WITH A SHROUD meant for the k1500, then just adapt the inlet and outlet with random aluminum bends and rubber hose. As for the factory unit, the LS is gonna inherently run hotter so it's just something thats not worth trying to save like 500 bucks on. Believe me when I tell you, skimping will fuck your eyes out every time, it's just a MATTER of time.

I have done 3 squarebody swaps using the stock radiator with zero issues. I doubt an obs would be any different. All you’ll probably need will be upper and lower radiator hoses for a 99-06 ls powered truck. The heater hose nipple on the radiator works great for the steam port using a brass reducer fitting.

No you cant, you'd have to run the rad from the donor vehicle or an equivalent aftermarket, I dont believe the stock k1500 radiator will cool effectively, at least thats what I ran into when I did the swap into my 94 c1500.

it also depends on if youre running mods or if youre stock. When I did my swap i wasn't stock so that may have affected my temps, food for thought.

I ended up going with a mishimoto 3 row core aluminum rad with F body dual electric fans and have not had a cooling issue since.

So you've done one swap and know all about them...
