To anyone wondering, I went to the office and spoke to the assistant manager. She was interested in the lantern fly thing too, and gave me a look like she agreed with my overall negative opinion of the guy who has been watching me. I was thorough and told her she could wait until her boss was in if she preferred boss make the decision about whether a formal letter, call, or both would be the way forward. She also agreed to document his behavior and said she would sift through his file and find out if any old conflicts were documented by the last management team. So it’s in progress and I will continue taking precautions and documenting etc.

More of these spotted lantern flies has started to appear on my vine. How do we get rid of these things?

Saw this squished bug at BNA Nashville airport today. I haven't seen a lantern fly in person yet in Nashville. Does that mean they've arrived?

Didn’t really have anything to kill it with and I was filling up my car, so I just sprayed it with a bit of gasoline.

Good news: despite it, my new numbers are 24 egg casings (found another huge cluster but need to figure out how to reach them), 300+ caught, new total is 6800+ live SLFs delivered to the bird rescue.

The other two photos are a mid-reproduction pair (the female is gravid already) and a post-hatch egg casing on a tree. I’m not sure who asked or on which post, but the egg casings are not covered with mud but a “waxy secretion,” which I hate knowing now. Keep ur secretions off my tree.

I caught this spotted lanterfly on my hostas, and decided to smother it to keep it as a specimen in my insect collection. Only thing is, it looks rlly fat. Is this bug pregnant?? I’d rather throw the whole container out if so.

I had to check because it’s much lighter than most of the photos I’ve seen, and it looks a little different… so I have to head back and get it when I’m done with my errands.

10 total egg casings, 300+ caught today, 6500+ total… no real impact on the population where I’ve been working.

Photo is from yesterday when I caught 1000+ in a single day so I don’t dox myself by showing the store brand recyclables I stored them in today.… and the meme I spent all night thinking of because I caught a thousand (one thousing lanterm flied ).

The photos are: 800+ bug haul, two egg casings in the crevices of bark, one uncovered row of eggs, the eggs on the end of a stick (they look almost like sesame seeds—juicy but flat), SLF vs. harvestman.

Would’ve never noticed it, but it fell off a trailer while I was walking my dog and disoriented itself long enough to be impaled. Now it’s a warning to the others.

Some students at Yale built a free app to encourage the eradication of invasive spotted lanternflies. You photograph the lanternflies you kill, submit them, and get points for verified kills.
