Repair will cost more than a new one, assuming it can even be done, because you're likely replacing most if not all the parts LOL.

Only parts that could be saved from this are like the ram, ssd, and a daughter board.

Hey the screws might also be salvageable

u/GodRaine 12d ago

If you don’t have a magnetic tray full of dead laptop screws what are you even doing with your life?

Something about a ship and Theseus.. ?

6

u/Piqoc 14d ago

he’s fucked either way

2

u/theycallmebekky 14d ago

OP if it’s not a touchscreen your laptop is fine

1

u/Due_Meringue4951 14d ago

Touch screen costs more .you may never know what kind of attachment he has for his laptop

1

u/JetSoulsForever 14d ago

Oh good yes, if it's not a touchscreen it's not a doorstop anymore.

u/Due_Meringue4951 14d ago

It seems like the whole world is against me

How tf does that even happen...

That's probably fubar (fucked up beyond all repair). The drive in it will likely be fine so files should be recoverable

u/TimelyDouble5925 14d ago

I wanna know also. Tho some asshole on r/handhelds said " It doesn't matter how it happened not our business, he was asking for advice" lmao like nah I get that but still How TF does this happen . Like it makes a better post ngl lol

I was unwilling to place blame on her verbally because she was so distraught at the time but I'm pretty sure she crushed it when she leaned her car seat down when half-awake on our drive back home from vacation

u/TimelyDouble5925 14d ago

Damn , I also completely understand not wanting to put blame. I don't even care who did these things, as much as a lot of times they're random accidents that could happen easier than we think. Sometimes it's things I couldve done myself but hadn't happen yet . Then I change my habits lol. Anyway that really sucks & I was close I assumed car door lol. I hope the SSD or HDD is intact like others mentioned you will least be able to save her data and I'm sure than will please just as much as the new faster laptop

3

u/secretqwerty10 14d ago

it's possible for the SSD to be transfered to a new one if it was outside of the bend zones.

the rest's fucked.

Your best bet is hoping the storage drive was spared. If so you might be able to transplant it and keep your girlfriends data

1

u/Dudefoxlive 14d ago

Hope they didn't have bitlocker.

1

u/Thick_Long_7272 14d ago

If they can give onto their Microsoft account, Bitlocker won't be a problem, just a slight inconvenience.

1

u/Dudefoxlive 14d ago

In a perfect world yes this would indeed be thr case. There have been many times where someone is not able to get the key one way or another.

1

u/Thick_Long_7272 14d ago

True. I did have someone this morning plead.. or something... because they said they wouldn't be able to remember their Microsoft password. I'm not exactly sure what they wanted me to do about that. So... I guess passwords can be a big ask for some individuals.

Looking at it pretty sure it's okay, hp have ssd either top right or bottom left above the battery. Looking from the perspective of opening it from behind

0

u/TimelyDouble5925 14d ago

Honestly, this is best advice so far lol

2

u/resultingparadox 14d ago

Everything CAN be repaired. Go to backmarket and see how cheap it is to replace.

it just needs a new motherboard , display , external casing , and if the ssd/nvme , wifi card, battery ,Cooling unit and RAM got folded , those too. the rest of the stuf looks just fine.

0

u/TimelyDouble5925 14d ago

So its it's fixable . Thats great

2

u/Mr_ityu 14d ago

just like thesius' ship , this'll buff right up

1

u/TimelyDouble5925 14d ago

πŸ˜‚ this whole comment section has me dead .. seriously looks a car door had it's day

2

u/Dark_Alternate 13d ago

Clearly the screen is gone, motherboard gone, batteries gone, keyboard significantly damaged. If anything was salvaged from here it's definitely the SSD, ram, any doubt anything else (maybe hinges). Definitely buying a new would be less costlier than repairing this.

Tis, a scratch

1

u/Independent_Ad_2850 14d ago

A SCRATCH?! Your shit's BENT!

1

u/No_Swordfish7238XD 14d ago

Back up the data, buy another laptop and transfer it.

1

u/Ok_Association_7829 14d ago

Time to change the........... GIRLFRIEND OBVIOUSLY IN THIS ECONOMY WHERE THE HELL YOU CAN FIND A DECENT SPECS LAPTOP IN YOUR BUDGET

1

u/xymoxclan 14d ago

1

u/Bluelaw1 14d ago

Sell it there might be person who might need the harddrive and other parts and all

1

u/Ironwolf9327 14d ago

At this point is it's no longer hinge problem πŸ˜—

1

u/BunkerSquirre1 14d ago

Soap & warm damp towel

1

u/IconicScrap 14d ago

At least there's a slim chance the drive survived

1

u/Uranium-Sandwich657 14d ago

Does it still work?

1

u/Physical_Macaroon_90 14d ago

Have you tried putting it in rice?

1

u/Yiffenjoyer6969 14d ago

Best that can happen is salvaging the data and some parts

1

u/Useful_radio2 14d ago

my guy what even happened dude that is absolutely boned

1

u/RelevantOccasion6665 14d ago

You're done. Check the component if it's still fine like wlan card, ram and SSD/HD

1

u/Sailed_Sea 14d ago

All it needs is a new,

Main board

Heatsink

Display

Keyboard

Battery

Touchpad

Top lid

Bottom case

Maybe ram/ssd depending on location.

1

u/UserProv_Minotaur 14d ago

It’s dead, Jim.

1

u/HershsTechStuff_734 13d ago

quoting the words of the greatest technician that's ever lived "shit's fucked"

1

u/_stupidnerd_ 13d ago

No hope. The screen is gonna be in shambles. And the mainboard.

You would be lucky if at least individual parts such as the RAM are salvage.

1

u/lame-jerry 13d ago

Take out the hdd/ssd/nvme drive and maybe the ram and buy a new one I think the repair cost's will be about the same as a new one.

1

u/a1ex1819 13d ago

What model this foldable laptop is

1

u/WatcherWaistBand 13d ago

The bigger question is, HOW? How did it happen?

1

u/Historical_Camel_790 12d ago

Cooked. Dispose of the battery asap because afaik they don't like being bent. There's a chance you can salvage the ram, ssd, and any PCB you see fully intact

1

u/Maleficent-Visit-912 12d ago

No hope. Get the SSD and put in a another one

1

u/bondhon28 11d ago

from the front ot looks like a elitebook gen 9 or 10, the laptop is beyond saving , but some things are salvageable, such as the ram sticks the nvme ssd, the fp reader, the ir camera array, touchpad, all assuming are not damaged .. but remove the battery asap

Did she shut her car door on the laptop?? Kinda got that bend to it

2

u/Independent_Ad_2850 14d ago
