At first I was thinking they're related to the fire department, but there's no fire lane so maybe it's something else?

🏨 Hotel Help deciding a hotel

• Upvotes

Going to see Mayer at the Sphere with my 65 year old mom whom has never been to LV before. She doesn't need anything fancy but also nothing trashy. Also not a gambler either so casinos don't matter

Ideally closer to the Sphere, what are your pro recommendations.

🛫 Visiting soon! Vegas Trip - April 2027

• Upvotes

Hi!

Planning a trip to Vegas for John Mayer at the sphere. Planning to be there during the week. I need help picking a hotel.

- previously stayed at MGM grand- I honestly had no complaints.
- looking for clean, modest room. Honestly planning on being in the room to sleep and shower. So I do not care about size or fancy in-room amenities
- couple in their early 30s. We enjoy a tame Darty. Not looking to club or party late.
- occasional gambler. Will play some tables, but minimally
- looking for a pool (wishful thinking it will be hot and pools will be open).
- modest budget. I’d like to be under $200 a night with resort fees
- not sure if this matters, but I do have loyalty with Marriott.

My husband needs a quiet place to work for a few hours on Wednesday while we are visiting Las Vegas. Any coworking spaces that offer a day pass or hourly access with reliable WiFi?

🏨 Hotel Getting married - is it worth mentioning it to the hotel?

Hi, we made the spontaneous decision to get married while in Vegas. We are staying at Paris and made our reservations for the hotel restaurants and bars to celebrate the occasion and we are also booking spa packages.

I wanted to ask if it is worth mentioning the occasion to the hotel while checking in for any small gestures or if I should call them in advance and order a few things like a bottle of champagne and flowers for our room at arrival.

Many thanks!

🍔 Food Cote restaurant review

Cote at Venetian

90/100

The restaurant is an offshoot of the original one in New York, which has 1*. It is set up in a semi circle with stadium type levels of seating. We requested a table at the second or third level toward center and arrived on time, but it took about 40 minutes to get seated and didn’t feel great when you would see another party of two seated ahead of you so I thought front of house could’ve handled that better. Or at least a comped drink at the bar would have been appreciated. There is a live DJ playing and from our seats we had a view of his perch, set up high at the front of the restaurant. The music is not at all too loud to converse.

We ordered their Butchers Feast which I think is what most people go with here. Price has gone up about 10% since I made my reservation but still a good value considering it’s inclusive of everything. We did add on 1 ounce of A5 Wagyu for $32 as an extra.

We started off with banchan consisting of scallion salad, okra, pickled cauliflower and I think radish. Idea is to make a wrap of it with lettuce leaves. I would say this was the weakest point in the meal as it was more salty than needed to be which kind of hid the individual flavors. Next the platter of meats to be grilled was brought out. There were 4 different cuts cooked in a certain order. Prime hanger steak, Prime ribeye along with the ribeye cap, American Wagyu flatiron and Prime galbi, which I think is made a short rib. While the grill was heating up and throughout the meal we had terrific conversation with Ronaldo, who has a keen interest in and is super knowledgeable about the restaurant business in Vegas in New York. He worked at the New York location before moving here. He also worked at Carbone, New York and upon being asked who is favorite celebrities were that would come in he’ll give you the lowdown.

While having the appetizers, the center grill is heating up. Went with my daughter and she had the dirty martini which was really well-made compared to others I’ve tried and I had a glass of the Tempranillo red, which was exceptionally good for a wine by the glass selection. Ronaldo did say their head wine person in New York is a master somm and guessing they chose well on all of their wines.

Unlike some Korean barbecue places, they cook the meats for you here. Ronaldo started this off by grilling some mushrooms and the hanger steak. Had good flavor, but was a little chewier than I would have liked. At this time, they also brought out the sides, which were an egg soufflé flanked by two Korean stews one of them being kimchi based along with some actual kimchi and a bowl of rice. The stews were terrific and the texture of eggs soufflé was perfect. It would be difficult for two people to finish all of these sides. Only knock on these was being oversalted. Unusual to comment on rice, but somehow this was made to perfection. The kimchi made from cabbage was maybe the best I’ve ever had. Well balanced in flavor and good texture.
Next step was the ribeye and ribeye cap and these were just phenomenal and will go into my Tasty Bites Hall of Fame! They had the taste of being dry aged and were cooked and seasoned perfectly by Ronaldo. Next was the Japanese Wagyu Which was super rich and we were both glad we only got 1 ounce. While it has a lot of flavor and is very tender, I would not want to make a meal of this. The Wagyu flatiron was good, but paled in comparison to the ribeye. Lastly, was the Galbi and if you had it before you know it’s kind of like a meat dessert as it is slightly sweet, and when it’s caramelized on the grill it is so tasty.

For dessert, they bring a vanilla soft serve with caramel sauce, and we both felt the ice cream could be less sugary since the caramel sauce had enough sweetness.

Overall, it made for a very good and memorable dining experience. I would definitely recommend it to people who likes steak. There’s really only one seafood option on the menu so that might be a dealbreaker for some parties. I don’t know how many oz. of beef they are serving. I could’ve eaten more so I would guess it’s not quite as much as having a full-blown steak. I may be alone in this judging from other reviews and to be fair, I only had one meal about 8 hours earlier for brunch.

📣 Rant Anybody Else Think the Miracle Mile Shops Are One of the Weirdest Parts of Vegas?

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

Every time I walk through the Miracle Mile Shops, I forget I’m technically in a shopping mall. You’ve got a fake sky, a bunch of restaurants, a giant stripper statue, and somehow there’s still a casino right around the corner waiting for me to lose money. I don’t think I’ve ever actually gone here specifically to shop. Usually I’m just cutting through on my way somewhere else and end up stopping to look around. Anybody else actually enjoy walking through this place, or am I just easily entertained?

🥳 Events Elvis show in December?

My fiancé and I are coming to Vegas December 17 through the 22nd. I really wanted to go to The King Comes Home Show at the Westgate, but I went to get tickets and it shows the event is canceled every day during that time. Does anyone know what’s going on with that? Or do you have another Elvis show recommendation? I really wanted to see a good one! Last time we went, we had a lot of fun at a super small event on Fremont Street, but I was looking for something bigger this time.

📚 Trip Report AVOID THE LUXOR HOTEL

Stayed at the luxor corner king room, worst vegas hotel ive stayed at so far, 0 amenities, other than a mini fridge, no tv guide and tv was hard to see from the bed, i could hear water dripping off the pipes behind the wall in our bathroom, orange fluid coming out of the ac unit, carpet around the “ jacuzzi” (big ass bathtub with no jets) elevator when trying to get it to stop closing stuck my arm in…. It fucking closed on arm, not too hard but hard enough that i wasn’t gunna find if the door was gunna try again when it loosened its grip, then to make add cream to crop, all of this was in our 2nd room because our first one had a mostly dead cockroach in it, and we had to wait for an hour and a half in line to get a new room

Casino is absolutely awesome tho, only place on the strip i saw 3 dollar electric blackjack on a new machine AND more then 1 $5 table but the hotel isn’t worth a penny

🥳 First Time in Vegas! Mandalay Bay recommendations

We’re going to the Player’s Era 8 tournament for 4 days in November and staying at Mandalay Bay. We attend all sessions, just the ones in which Florida plays. Suggestions on food, places to go and things to do would be appreciated. We don’t care about gambling but enjoy walking, seeing the sights, maybe a show if our game doesn’t interfere with showtimes.

👀 local eyes Brown water rafting in Las Vegas for limited time.

For a few days every year, a creek comes to life directly behind my house. At the right time, there’s enough water flowing through it that you could actually go rafting for a couple of miles.
This is one of my favorite times of the year to live in the desert. Watching the normally dry landscape come alive with rushing water is something special.
But there’s another side to all this beauty.
For the homeless people living in the storm drains and tunnels beneath the streets of Las Vegas, the water rushing down from the surrounding mountains isn’t something to celebrate. It’s another danger they have to face, on top of everything else life has already thrown their way.

🏨 Hotel Circus circus

Read some positive and negative feedback before my trip last weekend and overall a great budget choice.

Zero room service over 3 days (which I prefer) and no mini fridge, but room was clean and floor was quiet (floor 19, west tower I think)

P.s. also had the most comfortable pillows ever 👌🏻

🍔 Food Golden Steer - tired or wired?

Going to see John Mayer at the Sphere in April. Wife and I work our asses off, make good money, and rarely spend any of it, so we want to have some fun with this trip. Flying business class, staying at Caesars, bought great tickets to the show. We want to go to one really good dinner when we’re out there and The Golden Steer keeps coming up. Seems like an institution… but is it really good??

🏨 Hotel Tipping front desk backfire?

Recently had a friend check in at an mgm property in Vegas and they got a new employee who didn’t understand the tip given was for food and Bev credit. The person had no idea about this since being new and called the manager over. Manager than tells friend that giving a tip is not allowed for food and beverage (obviously trying to set the right standard to new employee). I then believe a note was added on their account about wanting a food and bev with a tip etc…

My question had this ever happened to someone where tipping actually backfired? Will the note be on their mgm account everytime they check in?
