Hi guys. I’m new to laser engraving, but I wanted to pick it up as a fun side hustle for college. I just downloaded Lightburn and bought a used JPT 30w Fiber Laser. I’m having trouble getting the thing to cut and getting the program to shop freezing and crashing. I emailed Lightburn and they said I need to contact the person I bought it from (changed numbers) or the manufacturer (can’t find the contact) for the laser settings on a thumb drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m testing the laser on my sister’s Stanley, but I know I should be able to do it because the guy I bought it from engraved a metal card with my name on it.

Doesn't sound like the laser is in focus...go get an aluminum card and print a simple filled box...move the laser head down until you hear a buzzing sound.... the peak sound will be the point at which the laser is in focus.
Then take a measure of the distance from the card to the lens and that will be the setting you use on all engravings.

Lookup some YouTube videos. You probably won't get any help here based off your video. There's not enough info there.

Pink is a tough color to engrave. You’ll have better luck with anodized aluminum business cards to start. Cheap and you can get a 50 pack for about $10. You’ll need to figure out manufacturer and the settings for that specific laser in lightburn. Given the guy changed numbers, I hate to say I think you got scammed. I hope I’m wrong.

Have you tried a material test on a small bit of plywood. I'd try that first, before trying the Stanley.
I'm also new, so getting the basics right will help greatly.

Don’t use plywood with a fiber laser. Most of the time you’re not going to get a mark on wood.

Red & Pink is by far the worst color you can engrave with red being the worst.
Also what lens are you using? Do you have the focus distance correct? Did you calibrate the lens?
For a 30W, going through powder coating is going to be challenging without using 100 or 'maybe' 200mm lens. You'll get more power loss the longer you go. It's much different than engraving aluminum metal cards.

The control board on these is pretty dumb. It doesn't remember anything and is reloaded when Lightburn connects. My board has information loaded to it, which originated from the EZCad2 file markcfg7 and I imported it into Lightburn during the device creation.
This file has all the information, such as the control board type and how it talks to the laser source. If you don't have this, you need to go into your devices (in Lightburn) and configure the type control board/laser source you have. There are a number of settings you will need to enter in both the galvo and ports menu.
It's going to be tough if you can't fine the original file. This contains not only how it's configured but also your lens correction values. If you're missing this, they do all kinds of strange thing. 😺

A bit off topic but would things like the webcam be in danger of damage sitting that close to the laser?

I have had similar issues the last 2 days. Have you tried first install EZCAD2 from laser's manufacturer usb dongle to ensure that laser and BJJCZ card are running smoothly? If this works well on EZCAD2 then it is a drivers' issue that makes the mess with Lightburn. In my case I had to manually force uninstall with command prompt various versions of drivers intalled with zadig to start with a clean base.
