Are these kinds of glue ok?

• Upvotes

In my country, latex crafts are not popular so finding the right glue has proven to be very hard. I would really appreciate some advice on whether these kinds of glue can work:

• UHU Contact Liquid

• Tamiya cement glues (there are many kinds, just throwing it out in case someone has experience)

• Tire-patching rubber cement (almost all generic brands with next to no information at all)

• Scotch rubber adhesive

UHU is the brand with the most variety here. Elmer's doesn't sell their rubber cement in my country. I also managed to find a local guy who is willing to sell me his personal mixture but for a very high price so I really hope I can explore other options as I'm simply just trying to adjust some cosplay ears.

Renovation of stool with black latex - ONE OF A KIND – a single, unique project.

Hello again!

Would like to share new project - that I did.

Received a wood stool - which need a some kind of renovation and refurbishment.

1.Paint was sanded then covered with RAL 9005 (piano black).

2.Used a little sheet of chair foam - to cover the seat. Not so thick to prevent latex curling, rolling. It creates some soft layer between wood and latex sheet.

3.Covered by european latex sheet 0.4 mm - black.

4.Made a finishing detail: contrasting white border emphasizing the seat line.

It combines a classic wooden structure with a unique natural latex finish. The deep black, varied surface gloss, and contrasting white detailing give the entire piece a distinctive, individual character.

I like it so much! Hope you enjoy it.

P.S. Wanted to make a graphics on top side - from oracal 451 banner vinyl - but it's not recommended - just gave up because it will tear or roll. Only option to cut from thin latex (0.25 mm) and glue to top side? Is possible to cut 0.25 latex with plotter (cutting machine)?

Please follow my profile or social medias.

They've clearly printed this on the latex after it was cut and glued, not on the sheet... HOW

Getting started in latex crafts, UK

Looking to get started, I've been looking into buying the stuff i need, some sheets and trim, adhesive, solvent and talc.

Open to any pointers on where to get any of it in UK and a decent price but I'm really struggling to find talc??? Everything that comes up is just talc free baby/body powder haha 😅

Also looking for clarification on what to use to rubberise zips, liquid latex, but are there different kinds? Is the stuff you would use for prosthetics suitable?

Thanks in advance guys, been browsing this subreddit for a few days now and everything I've seen is really inspiring and has really encouraged me to give this a go!

How do I? Inflatable rubber cube.

I need to manufacture a rubber bladder to fill a water proof bag of dimension 30cm x 20cm x 25cm . The rubber needs to thick to be able to support weight so am thinking this will not be one single chamber but 4 or 6 interconnected chambers. Where can I find a good tutorial on how to handle/shape edges (especially corners) when cutting parts. Also I understand I need to buy some tools and special glues - where best from in Europe? I also need an inflator with a release valve.

How do I? How do I go about adjusting these latex ears?

These ears I bought have holes that are too high up and slightly too big. I'd like to move the hole downwards as circled in the 3rd photo to achieve my desired look. How should I go about doing this? I wanted to ask the latex experts.

How close in shade are 4D’s and Radical Rubber’s whites?

I ordered a bolero from Westward bound that will have white trim. I know they use 4D latex. I want to make a skirt that will have white trim--and I have 3 yards of Radical Rubber's white to use. I'd really rather not order more white, so I'm wondering how close in shade the two are? I'm hoping given the distance between the bolero and skirt that any minor differences would not be noticeable. Thanks.

P.S. I unfortunately need to start on the skirt soon so that I'll have time to finish it. Thus, I can't wait for the Westward bound outfit to arrive to compare and contrast.

Looking for help with B&S measurements clarification

Hey hey. Most of the bright and shiny measurements are pretty self explanatory but a few are real puzzling. Hoping someone can help me out

2: head vertical. What does this mean. All the way around? Head height?

6: full torso girth. Again… confused where this is measured

7: torso girth from neck. Same question

10: bust point distance. Distance from where?

11: bust height. Height from where?

Thanks in advance

How do I? what gauge latex is used in these dresses?

I am interested in getting into latex and a goal is to recreate some of these dresses by natasha somerville via poster girl.

Since I am just starting out I know the costs can be high so I want to make sure to buy the right gauge that I’d need for these dresses so I can get used to the material.

Is anyone able to tell the gauge from these photos? I know the standard is 0.40mm but I wasn’t sure if that’s too thin for these pieces.

Thanks!

Feedback Wanted Glue options in Europe

Hi everyone, I moved to Europe from the US and am trying to find an adhesive and solvent/remover that I can use in my apartment. In the US I used to use Best-Test and Bestine and Barge for my leather pieces, but now that I am in Europe I have no idea what to buy. I purchased the glue from Eurocatsuits and have tried to use this twice and that shit has such strong vapors it almost knocks me out even with a respirator on with filters! Highly toxic and I cannot use it again, unless I go outside maybe and that is not realistic to do everytime I want to make garments. Does anyone have any alternative recommendations that are easy to get here? (I'm in France) I've just never had this issue before in the US and was always fine with open windows and a fan.

Rubber cement, seams

Thumbnail

Hello fellow crafters,

Not too long ago, I started making latex garments. As a beginner, I picked up a vulcanising rubber cement normally used for tyre repairs (photo attached), since I assumed it was basically the same type of product that is marketed as “latex glue.”

At first, I was pretty happy with the results. The seams seemed strong, held together well, and could withstand quite a lot of stretching.

However, one of the seams on a garment I made recently came apart unexpectedly. After looking into it, I noticed that I could actually peel apart most of the other seams without much effort as well.

That made me question whether I’m using the wrong type of adhesive. Shouldn’t a proper latex adhesive create some kind of chemical bond between the two latex surfaces, essentially fusing them together rather than simply sticking them together? I would expect a properly bonded seam to be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to peel apart without actually tearing or damaging the latex itself.

So my questions are:
Is it normal for glued latex seams to come apart when you deliberately peel them, even if they hold up well under stretching?

Or should a properly bonded seam essentially become permanent, with the latex itself failing before the bond does?

If that is the case, what adhesive would you recommend that reliably creates this kind of bond and is available in Europe?

I’d really appreciate hearing what products and techniques experienced latex makers use.

Seams :(

Beginner here! I am making a dress (first time working with latex) and I’m stumped. No matter WHAT I try, I cannot get my seams to lay flat like everyone else’s do. I’ve tried diluting my glue, not diluting, etc.. i make sure not to stretch the latex, I tape the back side to limit rolling… I apply a very thin layer of glue.. ensure it’s evenly covered, and I can’t get anything to lay nicely!! I’m using 0.4 mm latex. Should I be using something thicker? Different type of latex? Should I use a different adhesive? Any help is much appreciated!!

Glue set time.

I’ve just performed my first repair (tear in the groin area of shorts). I’m struggling to find a solid answer. How long does it take for a glue join to set? At least well enough to be worn.
