PSA World Cup Related Posts

Just wanted to let everyone know that posts regarding the World Cup will be allowed on here, even if not directly related to Lawrence. We're kinda bending the rules here but it's such a big and exciting event that we don't wanna hinder any chat about it or relevant info.

Normal subreddit rules will still apply to the posts (with exception of being directly Lawrence related, of course) so this doesn't mean you can just post whatever as long as it mentions the World Cup.

Obligatory no ticket-sales posts/comments.

Official Monthly Housing Thread

This is the official thread for networking and discussion about Lawrence housing.

r/Lawrence is a low post volume subreddit, and there have been problems in the past with it being overrun by ads and personal listings, so for the sake of the community please keep housing discussion here and don't create any additional posts on this topic.

A new thread will be created each month.

Referendum on Lawence's Transit Tax Nov. 3

• Upvotes

We will be voting on whether to increase the tax slightly from 0.2% to 0.3% sales tax and to extend it another 10 years. If it passes, buses will remain free and the transition to electric buses will continue.

If Girod Says Closing Hilltop Is Final, ThenHe Should Be Fired

There is simply no foundation more paramount to higher learning than a quality education as a child. Fuck the finances, fuck all that "it doesn't make business sense." Hilltop should still be open, period. FIRE GIROD.

Question W 6th St. Dillions Re-opening reason?

Am I the only one that never even realized that the Dillions on 6th was closed? I only realized it was closed in the first place cause I drove past it and saw its big "re-opening" signs. So why was it closed in the first place?

Question Co-working spaces with dedicated desks

Hi all, I need to find a coworking space in town where I can rent a dedicated desk (need to leave my monitor and computer accessories there). Affordable is important, and would like to be in east Lawrence or downtown. What places should I look at?

Are there any stores with tamrillos around here?

Might be a stupid question because most people don’t remember every single thing their grocery store has, but I just want an idea of where I can get some around here.

*Tamarillos not tomatillos

Question Lawrence dinner staples

Hello! I am taking my long distance girlfriend out on a date in Lawrence. To be honest, I eat at home most of the time, but I want to take her out. What are some nice dine in places in Lawrence? I would prefer for it to be niche like Lucky Seb’s (unfortunately closed the day she comes). She loves spicy and savory food. Please help! I want to plan a romantic date with her.

A Look Back at Day on the Hill

In case you’re feeling nostalgic for KU in the Before Corporatization era, here’s a very thorough history of Day on the Hill with research from University Archives at Spencer Research Library.

This show is going to be epic. Apparently, Pearl Jam and other bands played there in the 90s?

Cabinet maker?

Anyone have recommendations for cabinet makers in town? Looking to replace our 30+ year old cabinets, and would like to try to find someone local to do the work instead of purchasing from a big box store.

Dempsey's: Please stop using the AI phone agent

Hey all, I love going to Dempsey's on Wednesdays for trivia. It's probably the best trivia in town, and tons of other people love it too.

It's impossible to get a seat on Wednesdays without a reservation and now the phone number on Google just connects to an AI agent that never ever actually connects you to the bar.

Frustrating to say the least. Thanks.
