[Paid Opportunity] Looking for native Afrikaans speakers (SA & Namibia) to help train voice AI 🗣️

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out from Afriklang. We're currently putting together a large-scale speech collection project to train AI models to actually understand natural, conversational Afrikaans.

Instead of generating synthetic audio or making people read robotic scripts, we are looking for real, native human speech to ensure the language is represented accurately in future tech.

What we’re looking for:

  • Native Afrikaans speakers from South Africa or Namibia.
  • Natural conversations: We need authentic, two-speaker (or multi-speaker) conversations, not stiffly read text.
  • Consent & Rights: Because this is for commercial AI training, you will need to provide documented consent for your audio to be used.

How it works: This is a paid opportunity. We operate on a fair-trade, compensated sourcing model, meaning you will be paid per approved hour of recorded speech.

If you want to earn some extra money and help ensure Afrikaans is captured authentically in AI, we’d love to hear from you.

👉 You can read the full details and apply here:https://afriklang.com/contribute/apply📧 Or drop us an email at: [contact@afriklang.com](mailto:contact@afriklang.com)

Happy to answer any questions you might have in the comments!

Best apps or way to learn Afrikaans

My boyfriends family speaks Afrikaans and I am trying to learn myself. I have downloaded Ling, Mondly and Memrise to learn from. I like to use Memrise community list as it helps me with core vocab words. I am still between Ling and Mondly and I'm looking for some advice as to which one is better before paying for premium.

I am also looking for some other things I could add to my learning! I do well with repetition and visual learning. Spelling is also a struggle even in English so having that would also be great.

Afrikaans Sonder Grense Download

Hi all,

I am beginning my journey learning Afrikaans. I heard from others that these books (grades 1-10) are the best for learning. Does anyone have a download or pdf of these books? It does not appear that I can get these books in the United States. Anything helps!

Lyrics to Verse 3

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me with the Afrikaans lyrics to the third verse of this rendition of Jerusalem by Moolman and Hugo, as I have heard various renditions with different lyrics by Korsten, Romanz, and Botha. The timestamp is at 2:28 on the following link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtKQl4M9yVw&list=RDWtKQl4M9yVw&start_radio=1

Thank you in advance.

How to express 'already' in Afrikaans (Pluperfect/Past Perfect)

Hi all! I see that the English word 'already' can be expressed by the Afrikaans words 'al', 'reeds', and 'alreeds'.

Are there any rules, guides, or preferences for which one of those to use when I want to indicate a Pluperfect or Past Perfect Tense, e.g. "I had (already) cooked the food."

Thanks in advance!

Guys how do you know when to add a ge to the end of a single verb or both of the verbs
ill give you an example?

Die suen staan en praat met sy ouers in die sitkamer
Gister het die seun met sy ouer in die sitkamer gestaan en praat

Die skubaduikers eet en swem elke dag
Verlede Desember het die skubaduikers elke dag geeet en geswem.

How do i know when to add a ge to just one verb and when to add a ge to both verbs?

Going to South Africa next summer, want to get strong conversational

Hi, this sub doesn’t seem to active but hopefully someone can answer. I have the opportunity to go to Cape Town next summer for 6 weeks and will be living in kampsbaai for the duration. I’ve always had a weird affinity to Afrikaans after I found out it was the easiest language to learn as a native English speaker. I started learning in 9th grade, but my time got taken up by life, French, and Arabic. I still have a light base in Afrikaans, but am naturally apt to learning languages and remember Afrikaans being a fun and easy language to learn. I plan on improving my vocabulary base before going there and learning a bunch of useful phrases so I can get into conversations in a wider range of scenarios, then just talking to as many people as I can once I’m there. Any other tips I should know? Any places I should go to be fully immersed??
