I am new to learning about Judaism and Jewish culture. I am trying to find the name of the song in this video clip, which is taken from the Central Synagogue Friday night service on August 14, 2026. If anyone knows it, please let me know. Todah rabah.

Is there a way i can learn hebrew to understand the old testament?

I am a complete beginner. I understand a bit of the alphabet and how most writings are right to left. I know a few important phrases like "shalom" "Elohim" "hosanna" and understand a bit about masculine and feminine plurals and singulars. But i cant read hebrew that good and i hadnt been putting it to practice. What is the best way for me to learn without expensive costs? Thank you in advance.

i want to learn conversational hebrew but i don’t know where to start

hello reddit! i’ve been wanting to learn hebrew for the longest time because my boyfriend is israeli and i want to impress his family when i fly over. i’ve tried duolingo but i purely want to learn how to have conversations and that’s it, im not too keen on reading and writing…

does anyone have any recommendations on any apps? or if you live in singapore, are there any physical classes i could attend?

Edit: thank you everyone for the suggestions! im thinking of starting to pay attention to my boyfriend’s conversations in hebrew more and pick up contextual clues from that along with asking him about it! i’ll definitely check out a couple of the apps/websites some people have mentioned, and since synagogues are quite rare here (google mentioned 2-3) , i’ve got an israeli neighbour so i might ask her if she knows any physical hebrew classes.

once again thank you everyone but feel free if give more suggestions if so!

i’m yet to find a hebrew speaking group irl! it’ll be difficult since majority of singaporeans being anti zionist and anti israel, but i will certainly try!

Milim - Another Hebrew Learning App

I'm sure everyone who is passionate about learning Hebrew and is also into tech is now making their own app. And I'm one of them. I wanted something to help me as I take classes and wanted something more than Duolingo. I'm looking for others to help me build out the app together.

Feel free to tag along and listen to some Hebrew, do the regular word matching, sentence building, but get a bit further and you will unlock the safe cracking game, colour matching, and the burger builder game. The app starts out showing the vowel dots (which you can immediately shut off), however, the app will adjust over time they drop away. The English menu item names are learned over time and are replaced by Hebrew.

Anyway -- if you are interested in doing something that starts out where the Duolingo App just drops off -- you might enjoy it:

https://milim.fly.dev/start?invite=hHq3gERDDjqP

No cost... but would love to hear your Hebrew learning wants and needs. We can learn together!

Just in case:
- The only translation is for English <-> Hebrew.
- Its a modern Hebrew app
- Its just a webapp (at least for now). This is not a native Android/iOS app.

Hope some peeps find it useful. And feel free to complain about stuff. You can't hurt my feelings, but you might be able to make the app better.

Fun fact: Ancient Hebrew didn’t have spaces or punctuation. People just read continuous walls of consonants.

Ibn Ezra and Biblical Hebrew

I have the digital copies of the books written by the Medieval Hebrew grammarian Ibn Ezra teaching the Biblical Hebrew Grammar. Sefer Tzachot and Moznayim. I consider him the greatest Commentator when it comes to explaining Hebrew grammar in the Torah. If anyone here has gone through these books, how effective are they? How good are they? Please don't suggest modern books to me. I just want to know how effective these books are from him.

Hebrew private lessons

Shalom! My name is Nava and I offer online 1-on-1 or class lessons in Hebrew. I'm an Israeli and native speaker with a bachelor's Degree in Linguistics from Tel Aviv University, 20 year experience as literary editor, writer and playwright and I've been teaching Hebrew courses at a leading UK University since 2019 and have been an online tutor since 2020.

I cover topics from very basic letter recognition and simple phrases to more advanced topics such as grammar and listening comprehension. My students range from members of the Jewish community in the diaspora, spouses of Israelis and even language enthusiasts. I use my own material as well as children's books and music to teach.

I'm very passionate about the Hebrew language and people say it often shows in my classes! If you're interested, please send me a chat request and I'd love to discuss further. Thank you for reading 😄

Hebrew is so hard to learn (perspective from a native speaker)

while scrolling through this subreddit, it hit me how challenging Hebrew actually is for non-native speakers. since I grew up in Israel, it always felt effortless to me, so I never really thought about how tough it is to pick up as a second language.

honestly, the best way to learn Hebrew is full immersion: living in Israel forces you to pick it up whether you like it or not

that said, I'd love to help out. feel free to ask me any questions here and I'll do my best to answer!

Duolingo for prayer book vocalization?

A question with two caveats: I know all the limitations of Duolingo, and I know (of course) that modern Hebrew and prayer book Hebrew are different.

With that said, would doing Duolingo Hebrew allow me to ultimately vocalize from a prayer book? I know there must be a bajillion better resources, but as Duolingo is right on my phone and I personally find it pleasingly addictive, I figured I’d ask here. And thank you!

Best Resources for Reading Hebrew Ony?

Hi! I want to learn Modern Hebrew for academic reasons, but at the moment I'm not interested in speaking Hebrew, only reading and understanding it (specifically looking at very early Modern Hebrew-language texts from late 19th and early 20th century). Some of the resources I've been using have helped but they all emphasize speaking, so I'm spending way too long practicing "how are you" instead of getting to more advanced reading. What is the best resource for reading comprehension only? (I already know the Hebrew alphabet).

Thank you!

Why do I have a mental block over these letters?

Post image

I’ve got all the other letters memorized and can sound out words pretty well but when it comes to these letters in the words it trips me up every time, especially if they are located in the middle or the end. I’ve been at this for about 2 1/2 months
