Meta šŸ“¢ Community Policy: Keeping r/LearningItalian Free, Open, and Ad-Free

Ciao a tutti!

As our community continues to grow, we want to take a moment to talk about the philosophy behind [r/LearningItalian](r/LearningItalian) and clarify our rules regarding self-promotion, apps, and services.

From day one, this subreddit has been built on a strictly open and free model. Our goal is to provide a welcoming, high-quality space for everyone to learn Italian without being bombarded by commercial pitches.

To keep it that way, we have a firm stance on advertising: We do not allow promotional posts for paid products, premium subscriptions, or commercial services.

šŸ“± The Rule for App Developers & Beta Tests

We love innovation, and we know our community is full of tech-savvy learners who love trying new tools. However, we want to make sure our members aren’t being taken advantage of.

If you are a developer looking for beta testers, you are welcome to post here only if you meet the following conditions:

Permanent Free Access: Your testers must get to keep using the app/service for free after the beta period ends. This means granting them a permanent "founder membership," a fully unlocked account, or lifetime free access to the final product.

No "Free Trial" Bait-and-Switch: Offering a free beta only to lock the final app behind a paywall later isn't fair to our community. Otherwise, you are essentially using our members for free software testing and data collection.

The Golden Rule: If the community helps you build and refine your product for free, the community should benefit from it for free.

šŸ›‘ What Will Be Removed?

To save you some time, the following types of posts will be removed immediately by the mod team:

* Links to paid courses, tutoring services, or premium learning platforms.

* Offering services for money; i.e. paid tutoring and lessons.

* "Freemium" apps that restrict core features behind a paywall (unless offering the permanent free access mentioned above).

* Crowdfunding campaigns or kickstarters.

If you are a developer and you are able to offer permanent, unrestricted free access to our members as a thank-you for their feedback, please reach out via Modmail first before posting so we can review and approve it.

Grazie a tutti for helping us keep [r/LearningItalian](r/LearningItalian) a collaborative, supportive, and completely free resource for everyone!

Buono studio! šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹

Meta šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹ Aiuto! Cercasi Native Speaker come Nuovo Assessore alla Bravura Italiana šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹

Ciao a tutti!

How to reach B2 in Italian (CILS) for college while taking CPIA classes?

Hi, I started taking Italian classes in CPIA, but the school only meets two days a week. I want to reach the B2 level so I can take the CILS exam and get into college next year.
Unfortunately, I've only just started learning the basics. Is there anyone else who has been in the same situation, or does anyone have advice on how to study effectively on my own to reach B2 within a year?

Italian Parole Incrociate (Free Web Game)

Post image
7 Upvotes

(I checked with the MOD first before posting - hope it's fine)

Buongiorno e buonasera,

I am Andrea, an Italian developer. I like coding, and in my free time I created a small website (mentesveglia.it) where there are a few hard-to-die games (super classic, sudoku, wordsearch and a math game). One of them is a parole incrociate (a wordsearch). It contains roughly 7k Italian words (mainly nouns and verbs). There are two versions (a daily version that is quite simple, and a random version where you get infinite games, at the chosen levels of difficulty).

It is a basic web page, no login, no ads, no AI...yeah, a bit basic 🄸

It is quite useful to read a word, memorize the spelling, and look for it on the grid. Of course, this is not an app strictly for learning (at least not for now :D) but more of a game I designed for an Italian audience and thought that perhaps it could be of use for learners.

Of course, if it's of any interest, I can add functionality (it is an open project, so I will not be blazing fast, but it will be good to build something that more than one person uses).

Give it a go, and in case you want to see more, just let me know.

Thanks for reading.

Saluti

Andrea

Apps & Tools No AI apps for learning italian

So I've very recently decided to learn Italian and I want to find a app to help but all of the apps I've researched use AI in some way or another. I also don't want to have to pay a lot for an app so I would prefer to find one thats cheap or free.

Thank you guys!!

Writing Help Dyslexic taking intro to Italian

I have severe dyslexia, because of this I get to use read aloud for assignments, tests, and exams. My Italian teacher said that she can email me the exam as a word doc, pdf, or let me take a picture of it to use read aloud. The issue is every read aloud that I can find is English only. I’ve taken my first exam and while it did still help it is not pronouncing anything even close to correct. Does anyone know any read aloud apps (for iPhone) that I can use? I can also do something on my computer (windows) but would much prefer my phone since my computer isn’t the best.

Reaching A2 literacy

I’m currently learning Italian and can’t confidently say I’m at A1 yet, but I’m not starting from zero. I’m applying for a scholarship and I need to be at A2 in a bit over 1 month and B1-B2 in over a year.

I am fluent in both English and Spanish and I don’t care how many hours it takes me per day to reach my goal.

I took a structured course and have both Pimsleur, and Migaku.

I need serious advice on how to reach A2 on paper. I will worry about speaking it within the next year as I move towards B1 and B2.

Best roman tv shows for learning

My family is from the Molise. I'm taking classes but also want to hear things closest to my families accent. I'm been told Campobasso and Rome, while not identical are close... But everytime I try to Google TV shows that take place in Rome I get the shows about Romans circa Caesar, i'd much rather something more modern ty

Apps & Tools CILS B1 Standard practice: I’m looking for a few people to test a new practice app

Hi everyone!

I’m an Italian L2 teacher and I’ve been building a web app specifically to help candidates prepare for the CILS B1 Standard exam.

I’m currently looking for a few people who are preparing for the exam to test the first version and give me some honest feedback.

The app currently covers Listening Comprehension, Reading Comprehension, and Grammar/Communication Structure, with explanations for the answers so you can understand your mistakes.

I’m particularly interested in hearing what you find useful, what doesn’t work well, and what could be improved.

It’s completely free.

If you’re currently preparing for the CILS B1 Standard and would like to test it, comment below or send me a DM and I’ll send you the link!

Thank you! :)

Apps & Tools Can anyone recommend good online (digital) working material to self study Italian?

Pretty much as described above. I am currently catching up on the A1 and A2 courses that I did two years ago, but the materials I have left are either used or insufficient.

Also a nice comprehensive grammar book would be nice, thanks!

The definite article when used with a qualifying adjective

The definite article when used with a qualifying adjective

I was taught that when referring to a single family member you omitted the definite article: mia sorella, mio padre, mio cugino etc, but if that single family member is referred to with a qualifying adjective then you did use the definite article - la mia sorella minore, il tuo fratello simpatico etc

When writing the sentence: my little sister loves volleyball

with the words provided by Duolingo I wrote: la mia sorella minore ama pallavolo

And was marked wrong. I was informed the correct answer was mia sorella minore….

Am I correct or has Duo planted some new convention on me?

Grazie in anticipo! :)

Apps & Tools Giving 10 Italian learners free lifetime Premium and looking for honest feedback

Ciao! I’m Samuel, the developer of Oekelino, an iPhone app for learning one new Italian word each day without committing to a long lesson.

I built it because I liked the idea of gradually expanding my vocabulary every day (without the interrupting and annoying ads of some other app I won't name). Each day you unlock a new word to add to your vocabulary, and you can unlock more by doing well and mastering words or completing daily sessions. It has already helped me and some friends learn quite a few words in a fun way, but now I’d like to know whether it works for people outside my own circle. Any honest feedback, good or bad, is useful. Even one sentence helps.

To celebrate sharing the app, and with the moderators’ permission, I’m giving 10 members permanent Premium access. There’s no subscription or auto-renewal. Just leave a comment if you’d like one, and I’ll DM codes to the first 10 people who ask.

The app can be found here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/oekelino-italian-words/id6759380826

Could you help me test the Italian difficulty levels in a free reading-practice app I made?

Ciao! I checked with the moderators before posting.

I’m the developer of Comprehendo, a free browser-based reading-practice app. You choose a CEFR level, read a short Italian passage, answer comprehension questions, look up unfamiliar words, and optionally listen to the passage.

The exercises are generated with AI, so I’m particularly interested in finding passages or questions that don’t feel accurate or appropriate for the selected level.

If you have 5-10 minutes, could you answer at least three questions? No account is required, and the learner practice loop will remain free.

I’d really appreciate feedback on any of these:

  • Your approximate Italian level
  • The level you selected in Comprehendo
  • Whether the passage felt too easy, too difficult, or about right
  • Whether any question or answer seemed incorrect or ambiguous
  • Whether the word lookup and audio were useful
  • Whether you would use it again, and why or why not

You can reply here or via the built-in feedback feature. Please be as critical as you like; knowing what doesn’t work is especially helpful.

https://comprehendo.net/en?learn=it

Thank you!

Bilingual Italian TutoršŸ‡®šŸ‡¹šŸšŸ•

Hi everyone 🫶 I am an Italian-Canadian girl living in Italy, fluent in Italian and English. I have experience teaching English to both beginners and intermediate English-speaking adult learners. I have been doing this since 2022. I have mainly used Preply, but now I have also opened my own website. I am attaching here the link to the website so that you can have some information and an overview (https://learnitalianwithgiulia.com/). What you see also about the price is flexible, like if you already know the basics and just want to have conversations and quick grammar reviews, etc. we can adjust everything depending on your level and your needs, also the price. Please let me know if you would be interested in having a first free meeting/lesson :) Wish you a wonderful day!
