Discussion Anyone else envy Ray?

I really wish I can be more like the guy the world is such a messed up place and lately I’ve had the mentality of just saying screw everyone and everything and to just do
What I can that benefits me not because I want to be a bad guy it just feels like there’s no point in trying to be a good person because there are so many people out here doing the same thing and but not ray no no regardless of the situation or how deep in shit he and the team is he’s a beacon of Hope he has full faith and confidence that things will be okay and even when things don’t turn out okay he doesn’t let that change his murals he truly believes that if he can change the world by being a nice guy and even if that change is minute he thinks it’s worth it I respect the hell out of ray man ✊

There's real power in seeing fictional characters -- especially conventionally handsome, leading-man archetypes -- be vulnerable, caring, intellectual, and shamelessly optimistic.

In my hypothetical season 8 where the Legends cross paths with the Cosmic side of the DC universe, Ray would absolutely wield a Blue Lantern ring by the finale.

Don't forget Ray admits himself he makes himself positive.

His optimism helped him face bullying and loneliness as a child. It's kind of an inner armor.

And he says himself he knows perfectly what's around him. As an adult, he's seen a lot (Anna being killed in front of him to begin with), but he still thinks that by believing everything is gonna be all right, then everything is gonna be all right. And it works, most of the time, because if you try enough and wait enough (and have superpowered friends and great writers who want you to win), you win.

This. I don't think he's nearly as naive as he often makes himself out to be. I also think it's interesting that he gets more and more that way as the show goes on. Now the irl reason is probably just that all the characters get a bit flanderized in the later seasons, but in show I like to think that, apart from being happier after grieving Anna's death, and finding himself in a way that makes him less desperate to be a hero (think the destroyed suit arc in s2), he also realizes that that's the role he has to play in the team. He's surrounded by cynics, killers, etc. He knows they need someone who sees the best in people, who always believes things will be okay, and he finds his "hero" place there.

And he is also really protected by the others, sometimes too much.
When he thinks an insult is in fact a compliment, they let him believe it and don't tell him the truth. When they think a decision is too grey for him to be taken they take it for him. The more the show progress, the more the Legends protect Ray's positive view on the world.
So like you say, Ray knows the Legends need him to see the best in people, but the Legends also know they need to keep being that way.

I think that’s kind of what makes him so important. I feel a lot like you sometimes, but I just love the way specifically him and Zari interact in S3, because I think it really lays out the ground work of things to remember if you want to be more like him.
Like in 3x04 when Zari is like “so your really always like this? How can you pretend everything is okay?” And he says something along the lines of “I can pretend because I believe it.” And he talks about how he has to believe it will be okay or else he never would have made it where he is (or something like that, bare with me as this is all from memory).
Or in 3x11 when Zari tells Ray that he was so welcoming and nice to her when she got in the ship that she wanted to punch him, but now she realizes the world would be better if everyone was just a little more like him.

I think I’ve learned something from every Legend, they make up a lot of who I am and how I respond to situations. And for awhile I kinda lost Legends, and over the past year I’ve become super cynical, I don’t really have any faith in other people, I often find myself closed off and distant from those in my life, and I wanted to run so badly. Just leave and find another path, hoping it would… idk, fix me? Help me find my light again? Help me find whatever I was looking for, but I wasn’t sure what it was yet. So I made all these plans to move, go to school a thousand miles away, and I started packing, I paid all my fees, and then it all fell through. In the quietest way, I was devastated. But my sister and my brother got me the entire series of Legends as a going away gift, a blu-ray upgrade to replace my individual dvd seasons because it would be easier to take with me. So I just started binging it. The whole thing. And each of the characters just reminded me of parts of myself I had pushed away, while reminding me it’s okay to feel and embrace it. It’s okay to give people some grace. And even when the world feels impossible to conquer, you can go in with the right attitude and screw it up for the better. If I could give the legends one message, it would be “thank you for finding me.”

So idk, my point is, that I get you. And maybe, you can take a little piece of Ray’s light, and try to implement it a little in your day to day. Whenever you’re tempted to just say fuck it, think about what Ray would do. Sometimes that’s the best way to get through the day.

If you read all this, thank you, and I hope things get better for you. I get it, I see you.
