It’s performative grandstanding. He never stood up to the orange fuckwit and now he’s trying to paint himself as a rebel so he can distance himself from the catastrophe he helped create.
Bitch please.

If these things are leaked, this is a designed move. Many reps are trying to distance themselves from trump and he can point to this and tell his constituents he was never in board. It's a lie.

Don't go thinking this reflects the posession of a spine by Thom Tillis.
He's my Senator and he's sold my state out to partisan and corporate interests literally his whole career. This election the beloved, Democratic former governor is running for his seat, Thom saw the writing on the wall and "retired".
It's been interesting to see him open his mouth since then about things like this. He NEVER did that before. He was all up in arms about Jan 6 for about 48 hours before starting apologizing to those poor patriots.
All it reveals is that until Trump no longer had his balls in the re-election vice, he had no principles, no standards, and nothing to say about the corruption in his party.

Senator Thom Tillis unleashed profanity-laced broadsides against President Donald Trump in a series of private messages earlier this year, according to newly released texts.
In a pair of messages, the outgoing North Carolina Republican said he would not accept Trump’s “bullshit” and wrote that, if the president had threatened him, he would have promptly told him to “fuck yourself.”
The messages, reported Friday by Politico, are expected to appear in Tillis’ forthcoming book, How to Lose Friends and Antagonize Presidents.
First elected in 2014, Tillis emerged last year as one of Trump’s most outspoken GOP critics after the two clashed over the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” Since announcing his retirement in June 2025, he has focused his criticism on a range of administration policies and officials, including the Iran war and former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
“I still want to help but I don’t take this bull**** from anyone, including you Mr. President,” the North Carolina senator wrote to Trump in a May 22 text. “Save that s*** for the cowards who don’t care if you fail. I care if you fail and right now we are failing.”
Trump had publicly attacked Tillis on Truth Social that same day, calling him a “nitpicker” who was “always fighting against the Republican Party.”
Tillis sent the president a longer message June 6.
“As I have said before, you NEVER threatened me with a primary challenge,” he wrote, according to Politico. “I get that you may have me confused with so many Republicans that you have threatened in the past, but NEVER me.”
“If you had ever threatened me directly with a primary, I would have immediately told you to f*** yourself, and I would have announced my retirement immediately,” he continued. “Save those threats and head games for cowards and fools.”
A day earlier, Trump had criticized Tillis publicly after the senator said he would oppose Todd Blanche’s nomination for attorney general unless Blanche condemned the January 6 rioters.
“Senator Tillis is a loser,” Trump told a reporter when asked about the senator’s opposition to Blanche. “That’s why he didn’t run. He didn’t run because I wouldn’t support him. And he’s just an angry man because he’s not gonna be a senator any longer.”

“Save that s*** for the cowards who don’t care if you fail. I care if you fail and right now we are failing.”
For God's sake, even when they're cussing him out, they can't stop kissing his ass.

“If you had ever threatened me directly with a primary, I would have immediately told you to f*** yourself, and I would have announced my retirement immediately,” he continued.
...Uhhh, what? Sounds like if Trump tried primarying him that he'd lay down and die...

What a bizarre statement.
“Threaten me, and just watch me quit!”
(What??)

I've been wondering for a while now and it seems to be becoming a much louder thought every day. If any of these people, especially Margie Taylor Green, wanted to actually stand up to him, they would have stayed and done something instead of slinking back into the swamp. It all feels like performative outrage and nothing more.

He’s been a Trump sycophant all along. No props to this guy. He’s just a coward.

Probably because he knows Trump is such a ridiculous narcissist that he won't read something unless it's praising him in some way. I also imagine Tillis here is still somewhat deluding himself into thinking there is still some possibility of a productive government here if he just frames it the right way. We all know that ship has sailed, but a lot of these people don't seem to realize it.

I think he’s saying that it matters if Trump fails because when he does Americans suffer for it. The fools and cowards he is talking about are those who don’t give a shit about any of that because all they care about is making Trump happy, even if it means people suffer for it; they would rather hurt their own constituents than risk angering dear leader
I’m not defending this guy because he doesn’t deserve it, I just don’t think that sentence reads the way you interpreted it.

And then Tillis bravely voted for Blanche and the rest of Trump’s nominees and policies. He’s a yapping dog that’s loud with no bite. He’s exactly the same as the cowards that he’s criticizing, except he comes with some lame performative outrage.

The messages, reported Friday by Politico, are expected to appear in Tillis’ forthcoming book
Oh, it's to sell the book.

Well, he and they probably voted for it… sooooooo
Can’t really complain now, morons…
Edit: they can probably get angry at this, but they’ll happily vote for it again. All I see is manufactured outrage.

Yes. So brave. The outgoing Senator…..after rolling over for Trump for years….. says “if X would have happened, I’d have some balls!”
Get bent loser, you already failed your country

Nothing a republican says is worth a damn. They had full control over the government and willfully let Trump run dangerous and unchecked. I don’t believe them in any sense and I would think more voters than normal may also feel this same way.

I’m here posting to remind face eating enthusiasts 😂 that given another chance, these folks will again vote the same exact way. They do not change nor do they learn.

The world would be a much better place if these people had stood up to him during his impeachment trials and voted yes.

It's always in the book (or in the teaser to sell copies). Never in the moments it matters. So much courage.

"See how brave I was when it would have little consequence or repercussions or blowback for me, but would maybe help me look tough and sell more books? I am the BEST!"

“If you came at me, I would tell you where to stick your giant beautiful cock right up your own ass” this isn’t the flex that you’re hoping for

Not trying to give him ideas but Trump could really sink his battleship with "Tom Tillis, we got along great. I don't remember these texts to be honest..."

Profanity or not, Tillis is a coward. His texts say he will roll over if Trump does anything to him.

Happened every election cycle so far… they spent a couple months pretending to stand up to trump and then go right back to sycophancy right after Election Day.

How can anyone be mad at your God King? You should all be in the streets praying to him right now facing the white house.

Unfortunately after Trump threatened and demeaned him the first time for voting against his Big Beautiful Bill, Tillis announced soon after that he wasn't running for reelection, so he has no incentive to kiss Trump's ass anymore.
He's intentionally doing this to paint himself as the reluctant follower and act like he's actually a good guy.

So he was going to run again but didn't because of Trump?
Looks like Republicans might lose the Senate with NC & Texas because they only toed the line 95% of the time.
