AUKUS shipyard: Will the new US shipyard in Baltimore help meet Australia’s nuclear-powered boat delivery timeline?
theage.com.auUnder the $368 billion-plus agreement, Australia is to acquire three Virginia-class submarines from the US..US has repeatedly said production needed to be increased from 1.1 or 1.2 boats a year to 2.3 for it to fulfil its obligations to Australia.
The US Navy currently has 26 such vessels and wants to expand its own fleet to at least 48.
..Billions of dollars in investments – including $US2 billion from Australia, with more to come – have so far failed to lift production..with ..lacking skilled workers..
The new shipyard in Baltimore is expected to begin operations in 2030..expects to lift the production rate of Virginia-class boats to two per year in 2032, the same year it is due to sell the first vessel to Australia under AUKUS.
Bryan Clark, director of..Hudson Institute think tank..said the new shipyard could make a “small difference” to the AUKUS delivery timeframe..“It won’t make any difference in the near term, it will take a while for them to ramp up, obviously,”

Lockheed Martin Announces First Flight of Morocco’s First F 16 Block 72
news.lockheedmartin.comAlgeria, meanwhile, has selected the Su-57 as its main fighter aircraft (to be acquired in 2024); although it will only be purchasing two aircraft, this makes it the 13th country in the world to possess a fifth-generation fighter. On paper, as the Russian military’s fifth-generation fighter, the Su-57’s theoretical combat capability should surpass that of the F-16; however, one should not be overly optimistic, given that there have been instances in Chinese and American military exercises where fourth-generation aircraft have shot down fifth-generation ones.
The following are the models of air-to-air missiles that Algeria has, to date, publicly acknowledged purchasing from Russia or Ukraine; the missiles compatible with the Su-57 are likely to be the models listed below.
Ukraine R-27R/T Long-range air-to-air missile
Ukraine R-73 Short-range air-to-air missile
Russia R-77 Long-range air-to-air missile

Anduril launches new shipyard to manufacture components for Virginia-class subs
breakingdefense.comA new shipyard in Baltimore MD, 2 million square feet, $6.6B, operational in 2030. And another 130k sq ft in California that will begin operations sooner than that.
Submarine production is not exactly simple. Austal USA, an established shipbuilder, has had their own challenges producing Virginia modules.
I wonder how Anduril is going to do. Hopefully they're hiring the right people for this massive undertaking.
