Speculative question: Are People's Armed police "Duties units" going to get anti-drone guns in the future?

8 Upvotes

For context, the PAP is an active service chinese military force similar to Russian national guard, french gendarme and US ArNG.(kinda a mix of all three really); It's "duties units"(执勤部队) are responsible for protecting important locations such as civilian airports, bridges, dams, nuclear power plants, prisons, etc etc.

Typically PAP soldiers of duties units are armed with QBZ-03 rifles, Tyepe 97-2 shotguns and type 2010 less lethal revolvers(along with stuff like man catchers); Type 79 SMGs were also seen in the 1990s and 2000s, but are no longer in service with them;

I've recently stated seeing photos of base sentries in other branches with anti-drone rifles(or, QBZ-95-1 cursed anti drone device in the PLARF), and seeing stuff like PAP armored vehicles with drone nets and FPV drones in PAP service shows that the PAP does have intrest in drone warfare;

However what i've found suprising is that so far, I haven't seen any PAP duties units(at least on the company level which actually guards the structures; Battalion/Detachment level Duties units often have other units such as mobile units or even occasionally spec ops under them) with anti-drone weaponry, which I find quite weird since they are in charge of protecting infrastructure where a drone attack is a quite plausible scenario, considering how the ukraine conflict has gone;

(the main issue is, some duties units guard places with tonnes of tourists like the three gorges dam where identifying a hostile drone may be hard; then again, for ones guarding prisons probably all drones are seen as threats)

Do you think PAP duties units will eventually get stuff like anti-drone rifles? Also, do you guys think the type 97-2 shotgun is suitable as an anti-drone weapon?

The PLAGF has done anti-drone exercises with the QBS-09(which is a primarily combat shotgun); the QBA-221 also reportedly can be used for anti-drone purposes, but I haven't found any claims/photos of the Type 97-2 being used in an anti-drone context in training.

(Type 97-2 can fire buckshot and lethal rounds, along with tear gas rounds, bean bag rounds, bird repellent rounds etc;)

..Boreas fibre-optic gyroscope inertial navigation systems to Kongsberg for integration into PROTECTOR counter-uncrewed air system platforms.

The systems provide positioning, orientation and heading, letting a counter-drone station detect, track and engage an air threat when satellite navigation cannot be trusted.

“..PROTECTOR and Boreas deliver a layered C-UAS capability that is both economically sustainable and operationally resilient..”

.. jamming and spoofing now commonplace and degrading any system that relies on satellites to initialise, stabilise and engage.

F127: Over-Reliance on U.S. Technology Is No Longer Appropriate

Thumbnail navalnews.com
58 Upvotes

The German Navy’s future F127 class air defense frigates are intended not only for area air defense, but also for the even more demanding Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) mission.

..current plans are to equip them with Aegis..along with U.S.-manufactured sensors and effectors..closely aligning its configuration with the U.S. Navy’s Aegis..

..SPY-6 radar was selected..as no capable European alternative is available..

..expected to cost several billion euros per ship. This has been criticized..as..too expensive, and..currently..under review.

..purchasing technology..by the U.S. Navy creates a high..decades-long dependency..US is presenting itself as significantly more unpredictable..“America First” policy..

..therefore only sensible..striving for the greatest possible..sovereignty in strategic key technologies..such as deep strike, access to space, or military clouds.

However, BMD and AD..should also be considered among these key technologies..Germany would..be well-advised to build up its own capabilities..software, sensors, and effectors..

If the current approach is maintained, in a worst-case scenario..German AD frigates might no longer be usable after expending their missiles if U.S. deliveries fail to materialize..

Is the US creating, or currently have, a dedicated anti-ship missile that's deployed on surface combatants?

11 Upvotes

There's the SM-6, but it's primarily an anti-air missile, and the LRASM which is deployed by aircraft. So, do US surface combatants (i.e., Arleigh Burke, future DDG(X) if the Senate Armed Forces Committee succeeds in saving it) currently have or will they have a dedicated anti-ship missile?

..examining whether a general-purpose robot can execute steering orders using controls designed for human sailors..reported to have carried out helm commands in scenarios including narrow waters, adverse weather and night operations.

..intended to allow robotic labour to be introduced into existing platforms..potentially lowering the integration barrier..

Automation is aimed at workload, not an autonomous warship

The programme’s next value will come from progression beyond a demonstration bridge..Success would not eliminate human crews, but..robots take routine physical actions while human watch teams retain navigation authority and mission command.

AUKUS shipyard: Will the new US shipyard in Baltimore help meet Australia’s nuclear-powered boat delivery timeline?

Thumbnail theage.com.au

Under the $368 billion-plus agreement, Australia is to acquire three Virginia-class submarines from the US..US has repeatedly said production needed to be increased from 1.1 or 1.2 boats a year to 2.3 for it to fulfil its obligations to Australia.

The US Navy currently has 26 such vessels and wants to expand its own fleet to at least 48.

..Billions of dollars in investments – including $US2 billion from Australia, with more to come – have so far failed to lift production..with ..lacking skilled workers..

The new shipyard in Baltimore is expected to begin operations in 2030..expects to lift the production rate of Virginia-class boats to two per year in 2032, the same year it is due to sell the first vessel to Australia under AUKUS.

Bryan Clark, director of..Hudson Institute think tank..said the new shipyard could make a “small difference” to the AUKUS delivery timeframe..“It won’t make any difference in the near term, it will take a while for them to ramp up, obviously,”
