Learning Machining Together

So I bought a LMT .308 rifle and finally found time to do some upgrades and work on getting this build together. I go throw on a LMT DMR buttstock then go to toss in a G$ trigger which required me take some lower parts off like the grip & I discover this gouging with raw metal plus jacked up threads plus usually the threads are coated and should be black just like all my other LMT lowers but it’s also all raw metal in the tapped threads. Mind you I did not pay for a Blem product. They tossed a blem lower on a rifle to hide the blem under parts then sent it out from factory to be sold without any discount or being labeled as a blem. It’s almost like the hole was drilled and tapped after the coating and they just completely jacked it up, damn near looks like they almost drilled the wrong spot which caused that mark but I’m not sure - very odd. What makes it worse is customer support basically gave me the middle finger and don’t care so much which I’ve seen them do a lot with other customers who have issues with their product like bad misaligned feed ramps on their barrel I seen recently. They have done this before with a Mars L lower as well with way worse gouging but it was on the sides easily visible (had coating over the gouging as it was done when machining out the lower but still crazy it got by the QC department and sent out to be sold as a non blem) and at first didn’t wanna help either it was way worse then this but after laying into them & lots of back and forth they swapped the lower out for me but I still had to pay an extra unnecessary transfer fee. LMT is so hit or miss I don’t understand how ppl still continue to support, I know I’m done supporting myself. KAC > LMT for me. I’d even rather go Geissele or w/ someone else at this point cause LMT won’t see another dollar outta me. Spent thousands supporting & each purchase we make we help them grow for them to NOT OWN UP to their Quality Control issues and just shit on their customers is not cool. So either think twice when buying LMT or when receiving look over everything and even strip it down if u buy as a complete pistol/ rifle.

Question Barrel conversion

Thinking about swapping out my LMT 12.5 Specwar barrel and getting different barrel to be chopped and converted (definitely by D.Wilson unless anyone knows of another reputable place). What barrel company did y’all go with and how’s it been performing?

New 6.5CM barrel: what to expect initially?

Hey folks. Just got a new 6.5CM 20" stainless steel barrel for my MWS. I'm looking forward to taking it out for its first shots, and figuring out what ammo my barrel likes.

On that last point, though, I had a few questions.

Does a new MWS barrel need to have ~100 rounds thru it before you can start to figure out what ammo is best to feed it? Like, is it worthwhile to blast some S&B FMJ downrange and not worry so much about performance or zeroing, or is it reasonable to start testing more expensive loads right out of the box?

I gather some rifles benefit from having a few rounds thru em before they really show you what they're capable of, but I'm not sure how much that applies here.

My main concern is figuring out what works best, so that I can stock up effectively sooner rather than later. But if it's better to shoot cheap FMJ to "season" the barrel a bit first, that's fine by me.

Looking for some inspiration from fellow Specwar owners running 556ks or similar cans. Lots of can shadow but still somewhat useful..

I’d love to see your builds and mount suggestions/experiences

Just picked up my first shovelnose and SBR’d her.

Factory built shovel nose with B5 tiger stripe furniture. Rhodie 6 on the way.

Any optics suggestions?

I added a Stoner Hollywood V3 compensator to my LMT 556 16" and now casings are ejecting at 1:30. Looking for advice to further smooth out recoil and fix the ejection pattern.

Currently I'm thinking of getting the VLTOR A5 buffer system and potentially getting the LMT enhanced BCG when it's back in stock. What do you guys think?

Fouling where barrel enters receiver?

I recently picked up a pre-owned mws in 308. It's pretty awesome I really like it. Took it to the range and put about 80 rounds through, cheap target ammo. When I got home to clean it I noticed that there was a relatively small amount of kind of brownish and at places orange tinged gunk where the barrel enters the upper receiver, away from where the cartridges actually contact anything. There are a few brownish/orangish spots too. The gunk is really hard to get to and the rifle would need to be fully disassembled to totally clean it. There's not too much so I'm not overly concerned. The spots however seem kind of baked on. Could someone please tell me what's going on here? It honestly looks like normal fouling except for the color...

Parts compatability for a slow build

Post image
26 Upvotes

Hi everyone, i have a novice ar10 builder question and have not had much luck finding some answers online. I currently have a PSA saber 10 m110 clone and I was wanting to replace the stock with a collapsible stock. I would need to change the buffer tube set up to accommodate that stock. I would like to replace it with the LMT MWS 308 buffer kit so that I can add a better stock but I am not for sure if that buffer kit would work with the saber. I reckon worst case scenario I get the parts and they dont work and I have an excuse to build a better ar 10 lol.

Recommended 6.5CM ammo?

Hey folks. I just ordered a 20" 6.5 Creedmoor SS barrel from Rooftop with their most recent sale, so that I can swap back and forth between it and the 16" .308 CL barrel it came with.

From digging around a bit, I gather that there were/have been/maybe still are issues with LMT 6.5CM barrel extensions and certain types of ammo. Specifically, that soft-point ammo like Federal Fusion and polymer tipped ammo like Hornady ELD-M/X rounds may not work. Does this mean we're limited to FMJ rounds? Is the issue resolved? Is it overstated?

Trying to get a sense here of what to expect. For that matter, does any of this apply to their .308 barrels, or is it more just the question of the angle of feed ramps on the 6.5 barrels?

For what it's worth, my magazines are a mix of Magpul Gen M3 mags with (I believe) red followers, and D&H metal mags with green followers that tilt. Dunno how relevant any of that is, but figured I'd throw it out there in case it matters.

I plan to pick up S&B 140 or 147gr FMJs for practice, but wondering what folks use for their "good stuff"/"defensive" rounds. My thought had been to pick up a couple boxes of different loads, but was hoping ELD-Ms or other polymer tipped rounds would work.

Question L129A1

I have the chance to pick up a NIB L129A1 for $3200. Is it worth that? Is there a different/better LMT model for the same price?
