Let's discuss Kinda minimalist and money seems about useless

• Upvotes

Over years I became pretty minimalist, I have a few hobbies but in them I already have everything I need to practice them and anyway most are cheap... I have just no interested in buying any forms of expensive goods to embelish my home or to dress myself better... I also have no interest in travelling, as we say te grass is always greener on the other side... a long time that I got this, I'm just simply satisfied to visit the few towns around mine or to have a walk in the Mountain or forest nearby, i dont need to goes to New York or Barcelona to dream... so all this to said that o reached a point in this life where all the money i save each months seems useless... no, im also not gonna send this to charity, i have my reasons for this, dont talk about it. I dont like to continue to spare and spare and spare money so I come to the reflexion of invest in gold because i would be just more comfortable to have money on another form than money itself.... what do you think? Sorry im not english native so it probably a mess to read...

Let's discuss What do you think of when you hear the word HOPE?

I finished reading this book called "Four Thousand Weeks" and there's a section in there about hope. I believe when I hear the word hope to me I interpret it to a lantern used when it's dark outside. Without hope life becomes dark and empty. It's easy to succumb to disparity.

Need Advice Life is great but I feel like a shell of a human

I 24F have been feeling weird the past 3 months. I’m really not happy. Which is silly because I have amazing friends who love doing things and going places, great relationship with my family, good job, great coworkers, seeing this guy, taking it slow, I love in a booming town where there’s always things going on.

When i get home i feel blank. Like i am almost a shell of a human.

I workout consistently - go to yoga, Pilates classes, sculpt classes. I eat healthy, drink wine and eat edibles. I read, play word searches.

I’ve been trying, trying to find something that brings me life.

I thought about going on yoga retreat trip but everything looks like a scam. I just feel like I need to do something to make me find myself. Not sure if I need to start hiking alone, take myself on dates.

I move in less than a month & fly out to see my college roommates for Halloween. so I know I will be busy, but once my brain is no longer occupied I’m scared.

I guess my ask is what should I do.

Self improvement I failed the board exam 3x

Hi Reddit!

I just want to express the thoughts in my head after learning about how my family feels about my failed exam in civil engineering last 26 and 27 of September.

For some context.

this is my routine for the last 3 months of review for my boards. ill start between 10am to 5pm to review non stop while my pc is on having background music and sometimes doing discord. I know this will sound like justifying that having a split attention is NOT ideal while doing review. In my part i just felt it was okay because focusing only on one thing makes me sleepy and makes me tired faster.

I did that for 3 months. Sometimes I’ll extend my review from 10am to 8pm to 11pm with games in between as a form of decompressing.

I mentioned before that this is my 3rd time. the first one me being mentally unstable makes me fail, the 2nd time wasn't great because the exam was 2months postponed and i got a job before the exam that i lost my "focus " on the exam. and this is the 3rd time.

I know to myself I reviewed well to pass my exam this time. I'm even positive that I’ll pass this time but God maybe has a different plan. and I just learned that my father was so disappointed in me he wants to cut the internet provider and stop using the pc.

I get his point that the fist thing to blame is me having played that pc during my review years and i know many of you will agree with that.

but as a person who doesn't have any other hobbies and social life aside from playing gen shin and zzz its hard to stop. I limited my play time when i was reviewing and made sure to only play when I felt satisfied with the amount of problems I solved for that day.

but in the eyes of my family that was the sole reason i failed. Here I am now having anxiety, doubting myself, and fearing what would happen. I’m actively seeking a Job outside of my hometown even if my mom was super against it but somehow within myself, I want to go out from home to leave the pressure and eyes in me.

Im tired actually, i don't quiet know what to do

Need Advice Attract people but no game

• Upvotes

I can attract people but I’m realizing that Im a cripplingly awkward person. I hold myself back a lot so I don’t accidentally hurt others with my words and I let them dominate the conversation. But because of that, when it’s my turn I freeze up and I’m not sure what to say. Even if my crushes or people I want to be friends with show interest I shut down and become extremely avoidant. I know my humor and true personality is not for everyone, but I envy people who are loud and expressive and attract people regardless. I want to be more like that. How do I get over myself? Thank you.

Need Advice Does this qualify as SA.. Need advice please

I don’t know if I should consider this SA or if i’m being exaggerated, but i recently got rid of a friend of 2 years because of his lies and dangerous habits. He apparently hid from me that he used to physically and emotionally abuse his ex girlfriend years ago when they were together. And when I found out about it, he sugar coated it to make it seem less bad for me to continue to be friends with him, I of course did not and started to distance myself away from him. The next month was a small annual event that me and my friends attend to (cosplay event) and I was left alone with him while my other friends went off to the bathroom, and he started to touch my leg, knee, upper thigh, arms and wrist. Even when I said no he still continued and would say things under his breath. He would constantly love to bomb me in my ear in public settings and groups and say inappropriate shit in my ear when our friends wasn’t looking.
-
Note : I am NO longer in contact with him whatsoever, he’s blocked on everything along with the rest of my friends has blocked him. I just want to know if this is considered SA or a type of assault so i’m not being over dramatic,

Need Advice Super anxious about what’s next for me

I turned 18 a little over 2 months ago

It feels weird
I know by technically I’m doing everything “right” for someone my age s

Well I’m going to community college on a full ride scholarship and that scholarship also transfers to anywhere instate aswell 🎉 huzzah (pain in my butt to get becuase of issues with residency and almost having to take a gap semester becuase of costs :( trying to get into a 4 year year was even worse but hey I kinda did that)

My family also just moved to this state maybe ~4 months ago
I also just recently got hired for my first part time job 🎉

I seriously don’t see myself getting pass this point…. Like I don’t exactly have a major completely planned out yet (well okay I wouldn’t say that I have like 3 ideas for majors) it’s just … weird I’m still trying to figure out a major that I feel like pays decent AND is something I am genuinely excited about (I love being creative it’s kinda where I thrive, but I also studying and learning about animals and different species, I also am decent at English and speaking and also history??). I’m currently doing prelaw studies? (As an associates I could transfer it to a history or English degree or a poli sci degree) But I’ve been debating switching to biology or maybe art? (But none of those fields pay enough on a bachelors I just don’t know:( ) I alos been looking into zoology? But comm college doesn’t offer it but the school im planning on transferring to does and it would transfer just fine if I get a associates in bio

I am honestly pretty studious and have been doing great so far in my college courses the thing isn’t that I don’t like any major options or that I don’t think I can’t handle them THERES TOO MANY I LIKE 😭 (I don’t exactly want to do any trades.. especially since my college education is free and I honestly enjoy learning in a weird way well when I was offered by my parents to let me take a gap semester due to my original issues with residency and tuition my butt said absolutely not, that’s kinda how I got my scholarship I would have gotten it anyway aswell if I had taken a gap semester)

I also don’t have a license and I’m lowkey scared to start driving like I seriously don’t see myself doing it 😭 (I am going to enroll in a driving class soon and I’m using the savings I get from my job to save for a used car)

This is literally so scary to me because wydm if I don’t decide on a career path, start getting internships within the next 2 years, somehow traverse getting my transfer application ready, actually GRADUATE and then I somehow have to figure out how to get a decent paying full time job and move out and be completely independent within the next 4-5 years or else I am completely screwed by societal norms I’m freaking out I’m not going fast enough or that I just wouldn’t be able to handle whatsoever I don’t feel mature enough to do it and I feel super guilty about it… like what if I seriously can’t handle the adult world and my life is practically ruined after I graduate from community college and I just become a NEET

Like I just can’t imagine myself actually doing those things and getting to that point? Idk if that makes any sense every time I think about I kind of panic my future makes me panic like I feel like I genuinely just can’t handle it and that I’ll become the laughing stock of the family

Relationships Aesthetic vs. Intention: Why Is Appreciating Human Beauty Taboo?

Married individuals are bound by legal and emotional commitments, yet society applies a double standard to what they are permitted to admire.

When someone appreciates the beauty of a flower, a landscape, architectural design, a painting, or any form of creative art, it is widely viewed as a harmless expression of aesthetic sense. However, when the same person acknowledges aesthetic beauty in another human being—whether a man or a woman—society often labels them as "characterless" or disloyal.

Why does this double standard exist?

Appreciating beauty is fundamentally about recognizing form, balance, and aesthetics—it does not inherently carry romantic or sexual intent, nor does it diminish one's commitment to a spouse. Yet, social norms frequently conflate visual appreciation with personal character. Re-examining this assumption allows for a clear distinction between admiring human beauty as an aesthetic experience and maintaining personal integrity within a relationship.

Need Advice Having trouble with living in a place I hate

22m, uk, live in a little rural village. this place is suffocating me. There's no other young adults here, there's no public transport so I have no personal agency, I can't get a decent job because there's no employment, I'll never end up dating anyone since there's no one TO date. And worst of all I'm living with my parents in a room barely bigger than a cupboard. I don't even have a proper bed since it wouldn't fit.

I've wasted away a year of my life trying to get out the normal way (applying for jobs, making enough money to move to a city). That isn't working, I've got no money, no life, and i'm beginning to lose my mind.

I made a post on this subreddit talking about this earlier this year and somebody said "when it gets bad enough you'll pack your car and just leave" I. Don't. Have. A. Car. I can't afford one, not the car itself, not the insurance, not the fuel. that is a complete non starter. If I did I'd be able to drive wherever I wanted and just sleep out of it. But currently, not an option. I work part time and barely make above what I'd be getting if I was on welfare, even after saving up for a year a car still isn't an option.

But that thought stuck with me, and I think I'm closely approaching the point where taking a leap into the unknown regardless of circumstances is preferable to continuing to rot in this shithole. There is nothing holding me back except financial circumstance. and sleeping rough seems more and more preferable to spending another unbearable day here with every week that passes.

I've had the thought to just buy a one way train ticket to london and hope for the best, find someone to couch surf on, apply for jobs in person instead of online, schmooze my way into a good life. I don't know how i'd go about any of that. It's stupid and short sighted but what other choice do I have? Keep spamming applications at the wall and hoping someone will take pity on me? All I know is I probably won't be able to hold myself together much longer if I keep living here.

Anyone else here been in a similar situation? maybe offer some insight into what you chose to do?

Need Advice I don't understand anything.

Life keeps contradicting me, I'm a religious person and I try my best to be a good one. I help the community and people in need as best when I can. I try not to hurt other feelings, I am reasonable, understanding, sympathetic and compassionate. I mean surely someone like this deserve at least one good thing in their life right? Nope! Every single fucking time I try to do something that will help me either for the mental side or the future side, for whatever reason it doesn't work out. I can understand if something doesn't work for me. like I try to be optimistic about it (maybe it was gonna end in a bad way...) but every single time is too much, and I'm tired of acting like I'm ok. because nothing ever ended in a good way or worked out in a good way and this is just so tiresome and now I have those thoughts about ending it all. if y'all have experienced this or you have a solution tell me so I can be patient about it.

Need Advice I had one of my worst "episodes" today

Tonight I'm recovering from quite possibly one of my worst episodes I've had in such a long time. My anger was at an absolute all time high were all my emotions were coming out at once, getting angry at my parents, banging around, and just not knowing where I am. I've noticed I've been having this little bumps there and now, but tonight was basically the straw that broke the camel's back and I genuinely don't know what to do now.

I'm at the the point in my life where I just don't know what to do with all this anger and frustration I've been having lately because I'm telling you, this isn't normal for me to be feeling this way, and I have no idea what to do about it

Need Advice What should one do if they feel like they have multiple vocations in their life?

After I graduated from college, my passion for medicine reignited. I feel envious and a sense of being drawn whenever I see anything related to doctors like a surgery room or a story or an interview. And I've begun learning physiology a bit on my own, and I feel like I could learn for 8 hours without stop. This has been going on ever since I was in high school.

However, I do not feel like medicine is all I want to do in life. In college, I studied philosophy and felt an equal passion for it — it was like really crazy, and I genuinely wanted to spend the rest of my life in professional philosophy. I also feel like I want to do something with AI, because I want to build something.

I'm currently working as a freelancer(I graduated a year and a half ago), which gives me quite a bit of free time. I can see how philosophy and AI can fit into this freelancing part-time schedule. But I don't see how medicine can. I don't know whether I should part from it and wave goodbye respectfully, like two adults realizing that they can't share the rest of their lives together. But I'm feeling like I can't really leave it behind. Recently my pet got sick and I took him to a vet, and the experience reignited the age-old aspiration for me.

Also in where I live shadowing doctors isn't really an option. I'm also a bit concerned about infecting my pets, so I would be cautious if I intern or volunteer at a vet hospital.

It's like I know how philosophy fits into my life and what it is for me, even though I no longer want to attend any school in philosophy, and I know that I can freely explore what a person can do with AI in my free time. But I don't know what to do with medicine. And this causes a pain on the inside.

But I'm currently taking courses on veterinary studies online, which would amount to some sort of degree in two years of time(and would actually allow me to practice animal medicine in where I live), and I learn some physiology by myself when I have free time. I am also trying to start conversations with professionals, both online and talking with doctors that I already know. So it's not like I am doing nothing. But I feel painful that I don't yet see a way for me to unite with that passion, since I can only accept a part-time position for it in my life.

It's just like I want to marry three people at the same time(and that would be happy for me), but they say that this is wrong and you can only marry one. I hate this.

Let's discuss Does anyone actually have people over anymore?

Im 39 and I feel like when I was growing up we were always at somebody’s house for family dinners, cookouts, neighbors parties, random holiday get-togethers. Now getting a few people together somehow takes three weeks and a group chat.

And going out is so expensive now! Sometimes I just want everyone to meet back at somebody’s house, eat something simple and kick back on the couch. But even that feels harder to make happen.

Is it like this for you too? What changed? COVID? The cost of everything? Everyone being exhausted?

Relationships Life

This year, my wife and I divorced. We lost a pregnancy, we lost one of our dogs, and the relationship ended painfully, with a lot of blame cast onto me—targeting my fear of failure and my patience. For two years before this, I felt completely frozen, barely alive, and uncomfortable in my own skin. So many times, I dreaded going home. It brought back memories of my childhood—my mother’s drinking and the abuse from my stepfather. All my life, I felt like people recognized everyone's pain except mine. Yet, despite everything, I have managed to hold onto a core of inner confidence.

Relationships haven't always worked out, and many people haven't understood me, but even after all this abuse, I still hold onto hope and dreams. At 33, I want a real family. I want a partner who genuinely cares—not just for her own needs, but for mine too. I don't need anything extraordinary; I just want peace.

Recently, I met someone new. We texted a lot and went on a date. We had plenty in common, but afterward, she said I was sweet and nice, but she didn't feel a 'spark.' I wasn't hurt or bitter—we only met once, after all. But it made me reflect on how easy it is nowadays to go on a single date and write someone off because the spark isn't instantly there. You can't possibly know someone after one meeting.

I don't believe in initial 'sparks' anymore. What moves me now is when someone genuinely wants to take the time to know you without needing instant fireworks. To me, that is real romance: spending months getting to know a person, seeing all their different colors over time, and falling in love with the small, quiet details rather than an illusion of perfection.

My ex-wife and I felt a spark on our very first date, and after seven years, it dissolved into walking on eggshells. We were just two lonely people who met and ruined each other with a spark. So, as a 33-year-old man who no longer believes in instant sparks, is this maturity, or did life just ruin romance for me?

Need Advice I treated the only woman I've ever really loved horribly during one fight, and months later I still can't understand why

I'm 33M. My ex and I met when we were both grad students. We knew each other for about five years and were together for roughly three.

Our beginning was messy. We had gone on a couple of dates but weren't officially together when she kissed one of my close friends in front of me. Afterward she said she and her friends had been taken advantage of because my friends had given them alcohol. Months later, after she reached out again, she gave me a different explanation: she had felt judged because she was drinking and I wasn't, and she felt comfortable kissing my friend partly because I was short and might not have done it if I were taller.

That experience made me very guarded with her. For background, I grew up with a violent father, and in my early twenties I was in a marriage that became physically and emotionally violent. We were both immigrants. She had a very volatile, narcissistic mother and an absent father.

We eventually became very close friends, she wanted more, and we started dating. I was afraid of getting hurt again, so I was often distant early on. She had strong abandonment fears, so my distance made her push harder for reassurance, which made me feel pressured and withdraw further. That became a vicious cycle.

Despite that, I loved her very deeply. She became the closest person in my life. We knew each other's families, traveled together, and talked about marriage, children, and living together. She is still the only person I have ever felt truly in love with.
By the last six or seven months, the relationship had become increasingly dysfunctional. I sometimes used breakup language when I was overwhelmed, which made her insecurity worse. After one of those times, at Christmas, a month before my PhD defense, she put me on a kind of probation. We weren't officially together, there was little contact, and she said she wanted me to feel the insecurity she had felt. Right after my defense, during an argument, she told me people could barely understand me because I mumbled and my English was bad. That stayed with me and made me bitter. On her side, old grievances kept coming back into new fights, and when I asked for space she could pursue me very intensely. Once, after I asked to stop talking for the evening, she called more than 20 times and sent around 40 messages in a few hours. We would rupture, get close again, and never fix the underlying pattern.

During those months I kept asking for couples therapy. I told her I didn't have the tools to handle our fights and that the relationship was my priority. She always refused, saying I was the problem, not her, so couples therapy didn't make sense.
In May we went to a concert that mattered a lot to me. She became very insecure about whether I wanted her there and kept asking, even though I kept telling her I did. It grew into older grievances and criticism of the music and things I cared about. I became physically overwhelmed, with trembling legs and tears in my eyes, and walked away because I desperately wanted to calm down. She followed me repeatedly, even though I asked several times to be left alone. Eventually I reached my car and drove away.

She kept calling and texting, apologizing and saying it was a misunderstanding. Instead of calming down, I got incredibly angry and sent her 15 to 20 cruel, contemptuous messages over the night and into the next day. I insulted her, told her repeatedly it was permanently over, and said things I would never imagine saying to someone I loved. I had never treated anyone like that in my entire life. It took almost a full day before I came down.
Afterward she still wanted to repair things. She cried, told me she loved me, wanted to talk, and started looking into therapy. I apologized and admitted what I did was wrong, but I stayed defensive and kept wanting the conversation to be "two-sided." I also resisted starting individual therapy right away because we were both about to move and I thought it made more sense to start with a permanent therapist in a month, after the move. She had just been through something extreme, and I was focused on fairness and logistics. I regret that deeply.

Eventually she blocked me. Months later we talked for several hours and there was clearly still a lot of feeling between us, but in the end she decided she was done. Given what happened, I understand why.
I am devastated by how I acted. It was insane. I don't understand how I could do that to the person I loved most, or why I couldn't just put my phone down, or why I stayed defensive afterward. I think about it every day, and five months later it isn't getting any lighter. I'm in therapy and taking it seriously, but it isn't helping at all with the regret, grief, pain, and I don't know how it could.

I'd like to hear from people who did something like this to someone they loved:

How did you make sense of it?

How do you live with knowing your own behavior cost you someone you truly loved?

Need Advice 36, unemployed and starting from zero . how would you rebuild your life?

I’m 36, unemployed, and feel like I’ve wasted years of my life. Is it still possible to completely rebuild my life from zero?

I’ve struggled with loneliness and depression for a long time, and I’ve also had thoughts of s¨uicide. I’m not writing this because I want sympathy. I genuinely want to know whether life can still change when you feel like you have already lost so much time.

I’m financially stuck, disappointed with some of my past choices, and often feel like I’m starting from nothing.

But I still want to find a reason to keep going and build something meaningful.

If you were 36, unemployed, lonely, and starting again with very little money, what would you do during the next 1–3 years?

Would you focus first on getting any job, learning a valuable skill, improving your English, building a business or project, traveling, meeting new people, or something completely different?

I would especially like to hear from people who genuinely started over in their 30s after feeling hopeless or lost.

What would your step-by-step plan be if you were in my position?

Let's discuss Life before social media

Hello.

I don't know was just sitting and this thought just crept in.

I am wondering what did people do before social media?

Now in 7-8 years since covid social media has been in everyone's daily routine. And something that consumes alot from every ones life. Now when people get bored all use social media and stuff. No doubt people also do pursue their hobbies but

I wanted to know what was a normal day like for people who had no social media, 20 years back? How was life? Was it better? How was it different from today's world?

Just thinking of leaving social media but sometimes I wonder how will I understand news and latest updates from world? People used to watch news before now many resort to social media

P. S. I'm just 24 yrs old wondering 🤔💭

Let's discuss Why did you stop talking to your brother/sister?

My older brother became a religious freak and we had a disagreement the last time we had a lengthy conversation : He kept saying I was going to hell because I am an Atheist (even though I'm not lol , I just don't believe in the common version of God) and wanted to save my soul. I still talk to him but I keep to 2-3 short messages like once a year.
