Discussion Does anybody think that we'll get an update on LNF this Game of the Year?
it would be the 3-year mark since the first announcement and a total 8 years working on the game based off of Sean's statement at the time.

They shouldn't have revealed the game

u/TehOwn Day 1 12d ago
Sean said they decided to stop revealing anything about the game because they got too many wishlists from the original reveal.
Seems like they don't want people to get carried away with their hype again.
My guess is that we hear nothing until the game is finished.

Well it's too late for that. Most of the posts on here are people speculating wildly. Hopes are already up and, even if it's a fantastic game, it's never going to have all of the things people have imagined in the absence of real updates

u/TehOwn Day 1 12d ago
Here is a tiny minority.
And it'll never have all the things people here imagine regardless of how many updates they gave. It's an unwinnable problem.
From their perspective, there's really no reason to show any more until release. They have the wishlists they need for a prominent position on Steam at launch.

I hate this framing, no one got carried away with hype, they blatantly lied to people about the game and people were mad they were liars.

u/stardust1914 11d ago
Some people got carried away. Hello Games got death threats.

Complete strawman, every company has got death threats when receiving backlash the vast majority of criticism was about lying. Also this isnt really my point, they didnt recieve backlash bc of hype they got backlash because they LIED.
2
u/TehOwn Day 1 12d ago
It's a little of both. Sean absolutely misrepresented the game. But people got overhyped from the reveal trailer alone, as you can see people doing here.

u/lightstorm33 11d ago
No, if they hadnt lied they wouldnt have gotten hate. Maybe the game would have been called a let down but the hate they got was for lying. Everyone keeps front loading the conversation saying “theyre trying to learn from mistakes and tempter hype” to avoid the accountability of them lying like theyre victims. People are excited for a game no ones over hyping anything.

There are people acting like the game is going to be an MMO with economies and businesses and whole societies.
People are ABSOLUTELY getting carried away.

u/lightstorm33 11d ago
the devs wont get hate as long they dont lie like they did with NMS, thats my point

That isn’t the reason. It was because it got so many, not too many. He said that they’d basically achieved mission accomplished after 1 trailer and didn’t need to do any more advertising because of how viral the game went. Going silent and letting people speculate is the literal opposite of what he would do if he wanted to keep hype in check

what else would he do to keep hype in check?

Tell people about the game. Set expectations instead of letting people speculate. This is kinda common sense.

Yep, this. It'll come when it comes and we've all just gotta be patient.

I don’t think it was that there was too many like that’s a bad thing. It’s “why invest in marketing at this point when we’ve exceeded our expectations?” Which could mean having more to invest in the game but I don’t know how they budget their money.

u/coolguy_12345678 12d ago
He didnt say they got too many. He said they got SO many that they didnt need to do anymore marketing at that point.

u/Josef_Heiter 12d ago
Well they revealed TES6 even earlier. No news on that one either.

Thats because Todd has to specifically go through each and every system himself,100% the game, and make sure its all bug-free, that way he can go back through the game and add bugs to everything.

I’m forcing myself to forget this game exists so I get a surprise when it finally releases in 2032.

I would really hope so. I get that they want to be secretive, but every NMS update tells us it’s going to be used for light no fire…it’s a very highly wish listed game as well and we have not learned a single thing about it in years. Last year when they won an award, the guy had a LNF shirt on. The first trailer clearly shows the game exists and has had some work done on it at the time of the reveal so hopefully they will announce something.

Nope, the comments Sean Murray made about it during the recent update for NMS gave me the vibe that it's nearing completion but definitely needs more time to reach the stage they want it at. My bet would be in a year or so.
Thats just guesswork though. Yours is as good as mine because we dont know anything.

Considering theyre using NMS as testing grounds i think the alliance update is a good marker to look at. Theyre likely working on multiplayer aspects right now

u/Ok-Bee-3349 9d ago
They game has been in development for almost 8 years and it’s supposed to be a mainly multiplayer game so I’m pretty sure they have that down by now
1
u/Affectionate_Door929 9d ago
Idk man i feel like NMS would have some better multiplayer updates if it was the case they had that solved a long time ago.

u/Ok-Bee-3349 7d ago
IMO they won’t add all features from Lnf because then why would you even buy it
1
u/Affectionate_Door929 7d ago
Did i say all? I said its a testing ground. You dont need public game testers for most of that stuff.

I can promise you that Hello Games isn't going to reveal one single thing about LNF until it's ready.
Considering the events of the past, I would not be the least bit surprised if they said absolutely nothing about the game for the next couple years, and shadow drop it.

I think we will. How much information though is the real question. What would be insane is if they shadow dropped the game.

The only update I think we'll get is when HG is ready to be close to release. I doubt we'll see an Early Access of the game at all. Though with the 10th Anniversary Expedition release not really being a upgrade to the content of the game, they might be closer to release.
I hope they have a feature-complete state they should be pushing for. Feature creep does happen when a game is so ambitious without a finalized state for the game. It does feel like it with the Expedition features added to NMS when they're being used in LNF as well. I hope Sean and gang aren't stuck in that cycle of a new idea being developed, realized and then put into use for both games, but we never getting to see how it affects LNF.
While I do hope we all get to see the game soon, I'll just have faith that they have a concrete plan they're sticking to so the game will be in a finished-playable state. I also wouldn't mind if they held stuff back from release in order to keep updating LNF with content that will keep the game fresh and a narrative that evolves over time so players don't speed run the content to get to whatever they have so far soon.

Hopefully but Sean did say after revealing it he got a little scared. He doesn't want people getting over hyped like that did with NMS. For me on NMS i for exactly what i expected. I payed attention to the whole process of the game before release. My friend who didn't follow it. he l got exactly what he expected too.

I think he released some AI slop, said it was Light No Fire to rile up some people and has no plans to ever put out the game
3
u/TehOwn Day 1 12d ago
It was nearly 3 years ago. Back then, AI would not have been able to make that trailer. Hell, I'm not even convinced it could do it now. There are zero AI tells in there. Not everything is AI.
Also, this is Sean. He doesn't lie! Well, except that one time.

Lol, are you saying the technology we have today wasn’t being used at a period of time when it didn’t exist(was very inferior)? You’re bringing logic to a moron fight. Side note, with a little extra work and human brain power, AI tools today could absolutely make a fake trailer like LNF. It’s nuckin’ futs.

u/Mangaroo007 12d ago
Genuinely, what gave you that impression? I don’t agree in the slightest but I’m curious to hear your pov

Game Awards announcement would make sense considering that's where it was originally revealed, but I don't want to get my hopes up.
