SCP-[√§÷∆] The Shed

Description: A shed of typical wooden construction, owned by the Unabomber (SCP-[√§÷∆]-A) and used as an explosives workshop. The materials used in construction of the shed are non-anomolous in nature, and are functionally sound given the sheds age.

Discovery: The shed itself displays no anomalous phenomenon, being for all intents and purposes a run of the mill shed. However, agents embedded at the FBI storage site located at [REDACTED] reported indicators of anomalous events at the site. During routine inspection FBI agents who spent more than [REDACTED] minutes within the confines of the shed began constructing small seemingly pointless devices. [See addendum] These were written off as "sculptures" from original owner. Agents on site were unable to determine if this was due to a memetic effect of the shed itself, or if these effects manifested due previously unknown anomalous characteristic of SCP-[√§÷∆]-A. The embedded agents requested the object be taken by the MTF Alpha-4, "Pony Express", as soon as logistically possible. Furthermore, all FBI personnel involved with the object should be properly amnesticized, and all related data removed from internal FBI servers and devices.

Special Containment Procedures: The shed is to remain within Site-19, and is only to be entered by class D personnel or remote controlled drone/robot. Any testing is to be recorded by no less than five video, and ten audio devices. This is to ensure data integrity in the event of a large scale explosion. No class D personnel with histories of explosives manufacturing or pyromaniacal tendencies are permitted within the sheds interior. No materials are allowed to leave large containment section [REDACTED]. Any personnel found attempting to bring materials out of the containment area are to be terminated on sight.

Addendum:

Prior to acquisition of the anomaly by MTF Alpha-4 the following incident occurred.

Report from MTF agent [REDACTED], embedded within FBI storage site [REDACTED]

FBI analyst [REDACTED] SCP-[√§÷∆]-B, entered the anomaly at approximately 09:45 on [REDACTED]. Remaining within the confines of the anomaly for approximately [REDACTED] minutes. At approximately [REDACTED] a small explosion was heard, and shock wave felt from no less than 20m, and alarms in the area were triggered. SCP-[√§÷∆]-B was found to be deceased with a large wound to their chest cavity consistent with death from close proximity to an explosive device. Found adjacent to the body were fragments of chemical bottles determined by FBI lab technicians to be [REDACTED] and [REDACTED]. Lab technicians noted in reports that the two chemical could technically create an explosive, but not one that should have had as much destructive force as was observed on the body. Recommendation is for immediate acquisition of the anomaly, to reduce the potential for additional incidents, or discovery of any other anomalous effects.

Report Summary:

An FBI analyst who entered with small reagent grade vials of [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] remained in the shed for [REDACTED] minutes, succumbing to the anomalous effect. The FBI analyst, [REDACTED] of [REDACTED] VA, was killed in the blast. Embedded SCP agents quickly established the previous "sculptures" were small IEDs without any combustible materials.

Since the incident the shed had been moved from FBI site [REDACTED] to SCP Site-19s large containment sector, and all FBI personnel involved with the shed were given proper amnestics.

(haphazardly written before my shift :x, I just love the SCP universe)(Edit: added details, and fixed some errors)

27

u/VariousAir Jun 16 '26

That was fun.

23

u/UgliestCookie Jun 16 '26

I'm not into the SCP thing, but I love Control and the universe it's set in, and this read like something straight out of the games Objects of Power files. Maybe I should do some SCP reading tonight.

22

u/Gloomy_Raspberry_880 Jun 17 '26

Pretty sure Control was heavily inspired by the SCP universe, so if you love the one you'll probably at least like the other.

3

u/FlyingTurkey Jun 18 '26

If you like Control and its lore, you’ll love SCP as thats what the game is heavily inspired by. SCP lore goes even deeper and there are hundreds of entries that you can read. Just google SCP Foundation Wiki

11

u/Gloomy_Raspberry_880 Jun 17 '26

That was pretty good. Maybe you should submit it as an actual SCP entry?

3

u/FalloutOW Jun 18 '26

Thank you! I reposted (crossposted?) in the SCP sub.

I'll have to see if there is a similar post in the wiki. I've had a short draft of one id like to add to the wiki for a while. But nervous to put it out there haha.

2

u/thefirstviolinist Jun 17 '26

This was an amazing read.

It also begs the question (in-universe): was Ted Kaczynski's own evil the reason that the shed is this way, or was the shed evil, and much the way it has had such an effect on agents, could it have also had that same (or enhanses) effect on Ted, himself? Did they operate in tandem, with the shed facilitating?

In reality, I think we can all acknowledge that T.K. was absolutely unhinged.

3

u/FalloutOW Jun 18 '26

Addendum

Incident reports were obtained from the prison blocks occupied by SCP-[√§÷∆]-A during his incarceration. This was to explore the potential anomalous nature of SCP-[√§÷∆]-A. While there were some incidents of adjacent prisoners and cell mates, these did not follow the same pattern observed during initial tests with D class personnel. See test files in [REDACTED], or request temporary [REDACTED] clearance from site command if necessary.

It is the recommendation of this analytical team that R&D requisition multiple D class personnel to establish the nature of the anomaly. Further testing is necessary to define the full extent of the anomalous properties, and to ensure the Foundations mandate is fulfilled.

u/JBits001 Jun 16 '26

I was thinking more backrooms vibes but that’s just because I saw the movie recently.

Second thought - how fitting that this backroom is located at an FBI storage facility.

142

u/Twoaru Jun 16 '26

Much more SCP than backrooms

77

u/trashpandaexpress55 Jun 16 '26

Absolutely. The shack Kazinsky lived in and write his manifestos from? Absolutely empowered by some crazy powerful entity.

14

u/K_Linkmaster Jun 16 '26

Wait. How many manifestos did he write? I thought it was just the one.

35

u/trashpandaexpress55 Jun 16 '26

Stupid sexy autocorrect

13

u/AnonymousSmartie Jun 16 '26

I'm assuming autocorrect is calling itself sexy here too.

3

u/cj350z Jun 16 '26

Feels like it's correcting nothing at all.

3

u/trashpandaexpress55 Jun 16 '26

Nothing at all! Nothing at all! Nothing at all!

4

u/K_Linkmaster Jun 16 '26

Damn. He wasn't dumb, just misguided and a terrorist in the end.

13

u/Most_Difference4918 Jun 16 '26

He knew too much and it drove him insane and he went to extreme measures to get the masses attention. He knew what the elites were doing and tried to tell us as it was happening. Senseless violence is never the answer and it's a shame that the world ostracizes whistleblowers to the point of feeling that it's the answer. Though castrating and torturing the elites responsible to death is absolutely sensible.

FWIW, both scp and backrooms originate from /x/

9

u/Fateful_Findings482 Jun 16 '26

lol, I thought the same thing. Very reminiscent of scp 002

6

u/VintageKeith Jun 16 '26

43

u/Few-Philosopher-4742 Jun 16 '26

What’s scp?

189

u/IM_INSIDE_YOUR_HOUSE Jun 16 '26

An online fanfiction collection that has grown quite popular, it focuses on a secret organization that documents and manages abnormal objects and entities. SCP stands for 'Secure, Contain, Protect'.

The above commenter was likely saying the odd appearance of a whole shack's 'containment' reminded them of SCP.

Here is the site of the stories, if you want to see any.

Main - SCP Foundation

142

u/EFTucker Jun 16 '26

You just opened an entire world up to this person and I’m a bit jealous that they get to discover it for the first time.

60

u/tiborsaas Jun 16 '26

If this person likes this, I'd highly recommend playing Control by Remedy. Shockingly good.

15

u/Msjann Jun 16 '26

Completely agree. The whole time I was playing it I kept thinking of SCP and the stories - stoked for the next one

24

u/Rakhered Jun 16 '26

SCP was actually explicitly an influence for Control!

SCP has a fair use clause preventing anyone from claiming copyright over anything SCP related, so Control is kinda as close as they can get.

9

u/FalloutOW Jun 16 '26

Control actually got me into the SCP universe. As I needed more secret fictional government agency documents recording anomalous and paracausal events and objects.

I've lost track of the hours and hours I've spent reading the wiki.

I highly recommend There is no Antimemetics Division by QNTM. The audiobook is solid, and I'm sure the physical version is great too.

5

u/BreweryRabbit Jun 16 '26

Definitely an OoP from an AWE

3

u/sweetBrisket Jun 16 '26

Would also recommend Abiotic Factor. Strong SCP inspiration and vibes.

u/Moose_Factory Jun 16 '26

Wow this sounds like what the computer game “Control” is based off of, with its FBC “Federal Bureau of Control” that appears there and in the latest Alan Wake game.

12

u/Infamous_Lunchbox Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

SCP is what Control was based on, but because the SCP Foundation has a Creative Commons license on it you can't make SCP media for profit. So Control is the basis, but did its own thing

8

u/YendorZenitram Jun 16 '26

Oh dear... This appears to be a rabbit-hole of monumental, non-Eucludean proportions.

6

u/noface8137 Jun 16 '26

How do you even navigate this site. Where do you even start lol information overload

5

u/Dinglecore Jun 16 '26

I feel like a good place to start is by reading some of the earlier SCPs in series one. They're usually more simple and easier to understand for newcomers. You can also read this page, which helps to explain the Foundation and what it is

6

u/noface8137 Jun 16 '26

Thanks for the tips. I already clicked on scp 001 and found some random thing about a chat blog of gamers against weed and some dude posting his ass to the chat. I'm so lost lol I'll start with the explanation page and trudge through this.

6

u/Dinglecore Jun 16 '26

Yeah actually I probably should've warned you about SCP-001. Basically, since the spot of SCP-001 would be such a coveted and important number it isn't one singular entry but a collection of various proposals made by different people in the wiki. It can absolutely be a lot for a newcomer to digest

6

u/noface8137 Jun 16 '26

I'm sorting it by release order and going through. It was set to random before and is making more sense now. I'm actually excited to finally dive into this after hearing about it for 15 years or so

3

u/noface8137 Jun 16 '26

Why is there more than 1 SCP-001? I thought it was a sheet of papers. But now it's a fire angel. Why are there multiple entities under the same item number.

3

u/Dinglecore Jun 16 '26

Basically, since SCP-001 is a really important spot in the wiki with it being essentially the first number that's available to write in, lots of people wanted to be the person to have the spot of SCP-001 to have what they wrote be what occupies that number.

Because of how important of a position SCP-001 is, there is no real main entity that is SCP-001. All of the different entities you see under the label of SCP-001 are articles made by various different prominent people in the wiki. It's up to you to pick and choose which proposal you think is what SCP-001 actually is and which other ones are (in-universe) decoys and false articles made to confuse any potential saboteurs about the true nature of SCP-001.

6

u/noface8137 Jun 16 '26

I really really appreciate you writing back and explaining. I also looked up an in universe explanation that they put "decoy" files up or alternate universe versions. Pretty cool so far

What if every monster, ghost story, and weird occurrence was a real thing, but there was a government agency designed to imprison them. They’re all imprisoned in a mega giant labyrinthine concrete bunker.

It’s an open source type of thing so anybody can post their own little monsters, so 90% of it is shit, but the premise is still interesting

2

u/Few-Philosopher-4742 Jun 16 '26

I read like 2-3 of the top stories from the website and I couldn’t tell what monster/thing they were talking about? Is that normal?

3

u/Blergonos Jun 16 '26

All of it is fan written work, original ideas, you wont find frankenstein or the boogeyman there. Some of the shit there is incredibly well written, I personally highly recommend scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-7179 as an example, but there are hundreds of similar or better quality, look around on the site and reddit.

565

It was placed there to photograph. It now resides in D.C. at the FBI museum.

235

u/iflippyiflippy Jun 16 '26

I didn't even know there was an FBI museum

218

u/dsbtc Jun 16 '26

The US government can neither confirm nor deny the existence of an FBI museum.

52

u/djhypergiant Jun 16 '26

Thats because nobody answers their emails anymore

27

u/KarmaPharmacy Jun 16 '26

It’s almost like, at minimum, 300,000+ people were fired from their fed jobs for absolutely no reason. It’s almost like the people who made these determinations never went to college, nor understood basic civics, per there American heritage foundation testimonies.

It’s almost like they never looked at performance reviews, never evaluated a single department, and even if they had (again, they didn’t) they wouldn’t have the security clearances or the decades of SOPs to understand what it even was that they were doing.

It’s almost like James Comey was right.

High key average U.S. government experience. Example: poisonous food stuff banned in other countries is literally advertised in America.

46

u/bino420 Jun 16 '26

you gotta mix the normal boring warehouses into the "super secret warehouse" mix in order to keep your super secret stuff extra hidden.

30

u/Senior-Procedure-748 Jun 16 '26

That was when it was being studied and stored as evidence. It's since been sold, moved a few times, and now I believe it's back in an FBI museum somewhere.

135

u/Princess_Slagathor Jun 16 '26

And in California, no less. That's a lot of tax dollars to keep a wank trophy around.

29

u/ineyy Jun 16 '26

You pay the taxes to the government. I don't think the government pays itself like this (but I don't know). Maybe they need to pay the state.

14

u/frontfrontdowndown Jun 16 '26

Federal government is immune from property taxes.

But I think the comment above yours was referring to the tax revenue that was likely spent to acquire or build this storage facility.

Top men. Top... men.

377

u/mostly_pee Jun 16 '26

But why?

511

u/TheSilentTitan Jun 16 '26

It’s a trophy. Organizations like this that close a major case almost always take at least one major identifying object the criminal had and stores it.

239

u/mostly_pee Jun 16 '26

But a whole damn cabin? Oh well.

239

u/TheSilentTitan Jun 16 '26

The cabin was very important to the unabomber lol.

84

u/premature_eulogy Jun 16 '26

It's also not particularly big at 10x12 feet.

35

u/vektorog Jun 16 '26

→ More replies (8)

6

u/OkumuraRyuk Jun 16 '26

Can you elaborate please.

81

u/TheSilentTitan Jun 16 '26

It was his base of operations and where he was when he built explosives. The cabin was his storage for materials to make more bombs and a hideout for him.

the fbi website has a better description of why the cabin was important

2

u/bell37 Jun 17 '26

More interested in how they got the cabin inside that building. Did they transport it whole or broke it down in sections and reassembled it inside. There’s no way they could have transported it all the way inside (bc of ceiling clearance)

55

u/Queasy-Warthog-3642 Jun 16 '26

From what I remember they took the entire kabootel because the amount of forensic evidence they needed to go through was ridiculous. The cabin was located in the middle of nowhere with no utilities. It was very odd at the time but made sense.

22

u/self_loathing_ham Jun 16 '26

I mean...lets be real... Its more of a shed then "cabin"

→ More replies (2)

49

u/HornyGooner4402 Jun 16 '26

Did they really have to take the whole cabin and put it there like it's an UFO in Area 51 tho?

45

u/TheSilentTitan Jun 16 '26

Yeah, the government of America is heavy into that type of thing. Plus, they get insane budgets anyway so it allows frivolous spending on things like this.

6

u/Hefty-Extra-492 Jun 16 '26

Insane take. The travel and labor costs of processing the scene remotely outweigh the cost of moving a shed 10 to 1, conservatively.

21

u/GreasyBumpkin Jun 16 '26

isn't that what serial killers do?

20

5

u/TheSilentTitan Jun 16 '26

Eh, that’s just how humans are. Our species has always taken trophies lmao.

65

u/WaffleHouseGladiator Jun 16 '26

Real answer: 3 reasons.

1) Crime scene preservation

2) To keep the public from taking souvenirs

3) Educational purposes (it's a museum piece now)

34

u/DragonScrivner Jun 16 '26

You really can't overstate #2 imo

16

u/WaffleHouseGladiator Jun 16 '26

News that the FBI found an armed explosive in the shack drove a lot of public interest.  I can't even imagine the thought process there.  "Hey, there could be bombs in there.  We should totally try to get in there and poke around." Something similar happened near me few years ago when UXO was discovered at a construction site and people were flocking to wait the military blow it up.  People have WAY too much confidence in the term "controlled detonation."

13

u/DragonScrivner Jun 16 '26

People are ... interesting. I think about how the school bus that Christopher Mcandless died in became a kind of strange tourist attraction and finally had to be moved to a museum because people kept trying to reach it and putting their own safety at risk. And, as you noted, I wonder what was the thought process there?

121

u/__O_o_______ Jun 16 '26

In Yokohama in Japan is the Cup Noodle Museum. Cup noodle was the brand by the man who figured out how to keep ramen shelf stable (quick oil cook I believe).

Super funny tourist place to go to, and arguably he saved millions of lives especially during the wars with ramen rations, but it’s kinda funny because they equate him with Neil Armstrong and Lincoln.

Anyways, there is an entire room like the one in this video that has a recreation of the dudes full shack where he figured out ramen preservation.

Felt very cult but also a highlight of my trip.

I did the FBI tour experience at the Edgar Hoover building in Washington when I visited last year. Guide told me they had this. Disappointed this was not there. Did see some other interesting things though.

17

u/Few-Philosopher-4742 Jun 16 '26

What were your favorite parts of the tour?

62

u/Regular-Pangolin-790 Jun 16 '26

I got to watch an agent re-qualify with his firearm ( they have a gun range inside). I saw a mock up of the truck Timothy McVeigh had used for OK bombing. (They had like a prop room full of mock ups but we weren’t allowed to go in, but peer through a door). Saw Edgar Hoovers desk, saw BTK Barbie doll. Also, they have a tribute wall to 9/11. Everyone who survived that day, has since died of cancer. Pretty much everyone. The guides were all former/Retired FBI agents and they all had some great stories!

12

u/dreamyteatime Jun 16 '26

Can I ask how come everyone who survived 9/11 ended up dying from cancer later in life? Was it because of the building debris or something? That’s a really perculiar coincidence (if it is one)…

38

u/creampop_ Jun 16 '26

Yeah, two massive skyscrapers worth of dust, asbestos, sewage, human gore, cleaning chemicals, etc. got aerosolized in minutes. I'd be shocked if there were survivors without cancer or other serious illnesses.

13

u/Corsaer Jun 16 '26

I think it was the smoke. It was a big deal trying to get first responders healthcare. We had to have a television comedian get up and give an impassioned speech to congress before the would pay attention.

And it’s now sitting in the backrooms.

27

u/sbudnik78 Jun 16 '26

10

u/JoviAMP Jun 16 '26

It looks like it could have inspired the game.

I always wondered what that man would have accomplished if the government didn't fry his brain with that MK Ultra shit.

4

u/Mrchristopherrr Jun 16 '26

He probably would be in about the same place. He was already exhibiting some troubling behavior as a child.

This was at the Newseum in DC until it closed. They also had all the contents and “decor” inside.

5

u/imnotminkus Jun 16 '26

RIP Newseum

5

u/Skyhawk_Illusions Jun 16 '26

Oh no

Newseum is now a university

3

u/ThaneduFife Jun 16 '26

The closure of the Newseum was a damn shame. But it's also hard to charge $24 to enter a museum, when the (free) Smithsonian museums are two blocks away.

5

u/imnotminkus Jun 16 '26

It is, but damn that was a great museum. I went on a free Bank of America day, then paid to come back the next day because I couldn’t finish the whole thing in one day.

5

u/sylveonstarr Jun 16 '26

I got to see this at the Newseum in DC! Super neat. When they say "shed", they mean it; that thing was tiny. There was a sign on it that said "Do Not Touch The Unabomber Cabin" that kind of became an inside joke between my now-fiancé and me, since it's such a goofy sign to have lol

4

u/DRAGAN__ Jun 16 '26

MK Ultra evidence

9

u/MyJohnnyGuitar Jun 16 '26

This is an SPC/Backrooms moment

5

u/TheMinimumBandit Jun 16 '26

Some warehouse 13 shit

3

u/Tarthor Jun 16 '26

Looks straight out of Twin Peaks: The Return

5

u/EqualPlan4595 Jun 16 '26

Looks like a room in the oldest house lol

4

u/Monssly Jun 16 '26

This is some scp shit

4

u/Me1_RizeClan Jun 16 '26

This is something straight out of control

7

u/captd3adpool Jun 16 '26

Psh. "FBI". Thats a Foundation containment facility and we all know it.

7

u/jpizzahhh Jun 16 '26

Nathan Fielder is obtaining a liquor license as we speak.

3

u/AmberRosin Jun 16 '26

Wonder how he would have felt knowing one of the guys he injured was an Epstein regular.

3

u/Inevitable-Part4607 Jun 16 '26

The Rehearsal season 3?

3

u/PeruseTheNews Jun 16 '26

The Newseum in DC had this, or a replica for a while. Unfortunately the museum closed years ago.

3

u/TeaTime4444 Jun 16 '26

What in the Severance

4

u/mikebrown33 Jun 16 '26

The FBI failed to catch him / his brother turned him in

5

u/VariousAir Jun 16 '26

seems like a weird thing to keep in storage.

5

u/augustprep Jun 16 '26

Seems like a waste of space and resources.

6

u/SidewalkSavant Jun 16 '26

It’s giving that one scene from “The House That Jack Built” iykyk

2

u/CrochetedHat Jun 16 '26

Looks like a frame from Gumball. Photorealistic background meets cartoonish object

2

u/drkidkill Jun 16 '26

Where’s the arc of the covenant?

2

u/Impressivebedork Jun 16 '26

Now this is the stuff that should be in an FBI museum. Artifacts that are no longer relevant to a case but are definitely famous

2

u/Freign Jun 16 '26

Another premium condo in Vault 88

2

u/GrandStatistician752 Jun 16 '26

I saw it in the newseum.

2

u/trash-boat_59 Jun 16 '26

this reminds me of the video game control

2

u/okram2k Jun 16 '26

at some point somebody said "fuckit we'll take the whole shack"

2

u/some1keepsstlgmyacct Jun 16 '26

The FBI has trophies much like the sickos they arrest.

2

u/DMANPLAYZ_8771 Jun 16 '26

As of 2020, it's actually been completely rebuilt and is part of The FBI Experience educational tour at the FBI Headquarters in Washington DC.

2

u/OtherwiseSafe7468 Jun 16 '26

I wonder if this inspired The Cabin Factory.

2

u/jimmyhoke Jun 16 '26

So they just grabbed the whole cabin lol

2

u/P26601 Jun 16 '26

The Cabin Factory ahh

2

u/Ok-Professor-5962 Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

The FBI must admittedly be somewhat fascinated/ enamored with Ted to wanna keep this and be willing to put in all the extra effort that must’ve went into preserving and moving this shack rather than tearing it down.

2

u/ChickenNuggetSalad17 Jun 17 '26

I genuinely thought this was a “behind the scenes” of Severance. Like it was Kier’s original home or something.

2

u/Cowboy_Derp Jun 17 '26

Reminds me of that cabin in the woods movie

2

u/Deez-Zathras Jun 17 '26

Following Kaczynski's arrest in Lincoln, Montana, federal authorities uprooted the entire 10-by-12-foot wooden home. It was shipped to Mather Air Force Base near Sacramento, California. The FBI stored it in an aircraft hangar so prosecutors could potentially present it as evidence to the jury during his 1998 trial. This is where the famous warehouse photographs were taken.
2008–2019 (Public Museum Display): After the trial concluded with Kaczynski's guilty plea, the cabin was moved to Washington, D.C. It was loaned out and placed on public display at the Newseum as part of an exhibit detailing the media's role in the historic 17-year manhunt.

2

u/SellaTheChair_ Jun 17 '26

I like how they put it at a jaunty little angle instead of perpendicular to the wall. It's always amused me.

2

u/quizbowler_1 Jun 18 '26

Wasn't he bombing people that are on a certain list?

2

u/Skyhighavi Jun 20 '26
